Title: The OAO Jukes Box
Description: An ongoing thread.
SamoaRowe - September 7, 2006 12:42 AM (GMT)
Since the usual edition of The Jukes Box doesn't get too many comments, I'll just add them to this thread.
The Jukes Box #4
I didn't get a chance to see Midwest this week, though I head it was a good show. I don't know if it was just me, but CSW wasn't on this week, though someone at the TSM forums claimed they caught it at 1 in the morning, so who knows.
NWA: Mexico:
Donovan Morgan beat Matt Stryker **1/2
Latin Lover beat Mr. Aguila **3/4
Super Dragon and Teddy Hart beat Johnny Jeter and TJ Wilson *1/2
Acero Dorado beat Juventud Guerrera ***3/4
L.A. Par-K and La Parka beat Averno and Mephisto ***1/4
Abismo Negro and Cibernetico beat El Hijo Del Santo and Psychosis **3/4
As always, this show made the wrestling geek in me very happy. Juvie does it again, with another outstanding match, this week against Acero Dorado. I'm telling you, when the best of the year lists start up, I'm going to nominate Juvie as "worker of the year." The other highlight this week was the decisive title defens of the Parkas. I really hope they end up representing Mexico at the upcoming Clash of the Champions pay-per-view. I'm also pumped up for next week's show, where Perro Aguayo and Ultimo Guerrero will have a cage match.
NEW Saturday Night:
Jushin Liger and Tajiri beat D'Lo Brown and Colt Cabana ***1/4
James Gibson beat Kid Kash ***1/2
Rhino beat Ultimate Warrior **1/4
Chris Jericho beat Chris Sabin ***3/4
This was a hectic week for NEW, as the guys drafted from Pushing the Limits made a big impact by taking out Chris Sabin in the main event. It really has me feeling nostalgic for the days of the nWo and even the Radicalz! This week President Rowe also announced that M-A star, Rey Mysterio, will be the special challenger for Chris Jericho at Manchester Mayhem. From a storyline point, this doesn't have me too excited, but the match will surely rule.
NWA Mid-Atlantic Revolution:
Ultimate Warrior beat Abdullah the Butcher *1/2
Chris Masters, Mikey Whipwreck, Precious Lucy, and Melina Perez beat Solucion Suicida *3/4
2 Live Kewl beat Backseat Boyz ****1/4
The Outsiders beat Les Bohemiens ****
Val Venis beat Steven Richards **1/2
Kane beat Hulk Hogan ***1/2
Christopher Daniels beat AJ Styles ***1/4
Randy Orton beat Sting ****
This was a really interesting show. While I wasn't too crazy about the Warrior/Abby match, or the cage match, the rest of the show just really clicked with me. Christian Cage and John Cena had a rap-off, rather than an actual match, which turned out to be a good idea as it popped the crowd while letting them get a rest at the same time. The Outsiders have got to be the comeback story of the year, as Kevin Nash and Scott Hall have been putting on the best matches of their entire careers. This was a worthy show, that was well built and an easy thumbs up from me.
Until next week,
Bill Jukes

Good idea to make it under one thread.
I really love the idea of the dirt sheets, so you know. It helps me get feedback and provides me with an easy way to keep up with the other companies.
prof_plague - September 7, 2006 06:42 AM (GMT)
You left Orton/Sting Hell in a Cell of the list. ;) You're just mad because Venis retained in a No Escape Cage match that had a Snuka finish.

Shit, I did. I just edited it in.

The Jukes Box #5
Welcome to another edition of The Jukes Box. I have a lot to recap this week, including the debut of a new NWA territory as well as a huge Mexico event.
NWA: Hawaii
Necro Butcher beat Tatanka *
Heidenreich beat Orlando Jordan -***
Tyson Tomko beat Rikishi -*
Tom Howard drew Bison Smith ***1/2
The Rock beat Lance Cade ***1/4
NWA: Hawaii is smaller than the other NWA territories, and will only be doing occasional shows, perhaps one or two per month. They were very fortunate to have The Rock stop by and wrestle a 56 minute match against Lance Cade. The crowd was very hot for that match, as well as the opener and the Howard/Bison bout. The rest of the card is best forgotten about, especially the Heidenreich/Jordan match, which drew a "Worst match ever!" chant. I look forward to seeing what happens with this territory in the future.
NWA: New England Wrestling:
Jushin Liger and Tajiri beat D'Lo Brown and Doug Basham ***1/2
Chris Sabin drew Carlito **3/4
Rhino beat Hardcore Holly **3/4
John Bradshaw Layfield beat Rey Mysterio ***1/2
Things are really picking up in NEW heading into Manchester Mayhem on September 29th. The PTL Invaders broke up the Sabin/Carlito match, resulting in them being added to the pay-per-view. It will be all five of the PTL guys against Carlito, Chris Sabin, Johnny Devine, Jerrelle Clark, and Brian Kendrick. That match could be the sleeper hit of the year, as far as pure spotfests go. The other exciting match of the night was JBL against Mysterio, and once again poor Mysterio's main event push is him jobbing. Seriously, is there a written rule that Mysterio is never allowed to win matches going into main events? Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to the pay-per-view.
NWA: Mexico:
Charly Manson and Cuervo beat Los Barrio Boys *3/4
Dr. Wagner Jr., Donovan Morgan, and Fuerza Guerrera beat L.A. Par-K, La Parka II, and Latin Lover **3/4
Averno and Mephisto beat Mexico's Most Wanted **3/4
Cibernetico beat Ultimo Dragon **3/4
Juventud Guerrera beat Shocker ***1/2
Perro Aguayo Jr. beat Ultimo Guerrero **
Once again, Juventud Guerrera has stolen the show. Rumors have it that the NWA board of directors are pushing very heavily for Juvie to have a large role in the upcoming Clash of the Champions pay-per-view. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. The main event this week was actually a lot better than the star rating would indicate, as it was the blow-off to what was a very entertaining feud. I was sad to see it end, but Mexico has so much big stuff going on, that I'll get by. Speaking of, Mexico also held a large event, and I was lucky enough to get a tape by it, though I'll admit I'm not entirely proud of the means I took to get it.
Mexico presents... Super Match:
Mr. Aguila beat Dos Caras Jr. **
Perro Aguayo Jr. beat Shocker, Cibernetico, and Juventud Guerrera ***
Donovan Morgan beat Matt Stryker **1/2
Acero Dorado beat Charly Manson ***
L.A. Par-K and La Parka II beat Averno and Mephisto ***1/2
Dr. Wagner Jr. and Fuerza Guerrera beat Johnny Jeter and Ultimo Dragon **1/4
Super Dragon and Teddy Hart beat Los Barrio Boys **1/2
EZ Money beat Virus *3/4
Perro Aguayo Jr. beat El Hijo Del Santo ***1/2
This was another oustanding Mexico production that was absolutely killed by the awful crowd. My personal favorite match of the evening was the Mexican Tag Team match, which had the Parkas picking up a hard fought victory over Averno and Mephisto. Other notes, I was disappointed that Juventud Guerrera did not win the four way, as he has been the Mexico MVP, regardless of how awful he may be backstage. I'm curious about the push of Johnny Jeter, as so far it does not seem to be producing desirable results. Perhaps NEW was right to let him go after months of not using him? Maybe Jeter will prove us all wrong, as most would agree that he has a world of potential in him.
NWA: Midwest:
Onyx beat John Walters
Chair Swinging Freaks beat British Invasion
Paul London beat Arik Cannon
Kurt Angle beat Sabu
The obvious big news in the Midwest this week is that Kurt Angle made his debut. Angle came out to a great reaction from the crowd in a hot segment featuring Chris Benoit. I want them to wrestle each other again so badly, I'm practically foaming at the mouth. I may want to see a doctor about that... anyway, the main event was a real classic as Angle defeated Sabu in their first singles encounter ever! This was real must see television for anyone who calls themselves a wrestling fan. The other exciting news is the Interstate Title tournament, which kicked off to high gear this week. I'm pulling for Paul London to upset everyone and win the tourney. He picked up a win against Arik Cannon in a very good match, though it threw the crowd for a bit of a loop since both guys are faces. It's sad when a crowd doesn't know how to react.
NWA: Mid-Atlantic:
2 Skinny Black Guys beat Backseat Boyz *3/4
2 Live Kewl beat Air Rave **3/4
Chavo Guerrero and Shane Helms beat Boogeyman and Ultimate Warrior **3/4
Hardy Boyz beat Heart Throbs ***
Kane beat Sting ****
This was a big week for M-A. NWA World Heavyweight Champion The Rock came to town, debuting in the main event segment. The Rock debuted as a heel, and basically claimed that he was the official biggest star in M-A, and that Christopher Daniels and the M-A Championship could not hold up. The Rock made an open challenge for next week, so the NWA Championship will have it's first television title defense since coming back at the Great American Bash. The other noteworthy happening this week was the reunion of the Hardy Boyz. The drew the Heart Throbs, and kept brawling after the match. That is a feud I am eager to watch, especially with Jeff Hardy being in good ring shape again.
Well, that's it for now. I'll be back next week to recap of the ongoings of the National Wrestling Alliance!

The Jukes Box #6
For the week of September 16th
NWA: Mexico:
Los Vipers beat Los Barrio Boys **
Acero Dorado beat Donovan Morgan ***1/2
Abismo Negro and Cibernetico beat Dos Caras Jr. and La Parka II **
L.A. Par-K beat Dr. Wagner Jr. **3/4
Mexico's Most Wanted beat Averno and Mephisto ***1/4
Juventud Guerrera beat El Hijo Del Santo ****1/2
Holy crap, if any of you missed Mexico this week, go to Youtube, or start harrasing message boards to get a copy of the tape. Seriously, the main event was a true MOTYC, and was an absolute steal to have it on free television. I kid you not, you do NOT want to miss that match. And further, it is a genuine delight to see Juventud Guerrera becoming the #1 Contender. That is the smartest thing Mexico could have done at this point. The other thing about Mexico's shows that are warming my heart is that the fans in attendance are FINALLY getting into the shows more. Serioulsy, for the first couple of months I would be sitting here watching the show in complete amazement that the live crowd would be sitting there on their hands as they are being presented with the consistently best in-ring work in North America today! Mexico is on a major roll, this is a key promotion to keep an eye on in the coming months.
I heard a vicious rumor that Abismo Negro was caught in the locker-room watching reruns of PTL. Apparently the boys gave him some crap about it and compared him to Viscera, who was rumored to have been a big fan of the dead promotion.
NWA: New England Wrestling:
D'Lo Brown and the Basham Brothers beat Jushin Liger, Tajiri, and Andrew Martin **3/4
James Gibson beat Kid Kash ***1/2
Chris Hero, Frankie Kazarian, and Matt Sydal beat Chris Sabin, Johnny Devine, and Carlito *1/2
Rob Van Dam beat Sonjay Dutt **3/4
Mick Foley and Rhino beat Tommy Dreamer and Sonny Siaki by DQ ***1/2
This sure felt like an off week for NEW. While I like what is going on with Chris Jericho complaining that he is being left out of all the main event hype, it is true to an extent. The real feud right now seems to be between JBL and Rey Mysterio, which would be fine if this was going to be a triple threat match at Manchester Mayhem, instead of JBL just being the special guest referee. The main event for next week will be a triple threat between the three of them, which seems like an awfully big match for free television. The other disappointing thing on NEW this week was the crowd reaction to the PTL match. I know they were sent on right after Kid Kash and James Gibson had torn the house down, but this was a big angle that NEW was banking on. Lastly, I really liked Mick Foley's promo against Tommy Dreamer and Sonny Siaki. Folely was upset that Dreamer had beaten him in Hell in a Cell at Summerslam, and rather than using the win to catapult his career, has been playing errand boy to Sonny Siaki, who is something of an errand boy himself. Well, at least when NEW has shabby booking, they make an angle out of it.
NWA Midwest:
Chad Collyer beat Harry Smith *
Chair Swinging Freaks beat Austin Lee and Konrad 3/4*
Matt Striker beat Ken Kennedy **
Kurt Angle beat Abyss ***1/4
While the actual wrestling wasn't that great this week, aside from a really solid main event and the fun Striker/Kennedy match, Kurt Angle definitly had a chance to shine with one of the best promos he has cut in years. Angle became the number one contender to Chris Benoit's Midwest Championship, thus promising an upcoming MOTYC, and probably the greatest match in Midwest's short history. Although Benoit and Angle have wrestled each other countless times in the past, we have not seen them tie up since early 2003. That's a long time, so the upcoming Benoit/Angle match will feel completely fresh. Also, the Interstate Championship tournament is continuing nicely, even though there haven't been any brackets. Chad Collyer advanced past Harry Smith in a fine match that the crowd took a dump on. Matt Striker picked up a big upset over Kennedy, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to see Striker take it all.
Also, sources at Midwest have informed me that CM Punk has requested the chance to work with Chris Benoit. At first the request wasn't taken all that seriously, until later that day Benoit requested to work with Punk as well. That could provide us with some very interesting television in the coming months...
NWA: Mid-Atlantic:
2 Skinny Black Guys beat 2 Live Kewl by DQ **1/4
The Rock beat Abdullah the Butcher **3/4
John Cena, Chavo Guerrero, and Shane Helms beat Christian Cage, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall ***1/2
Sting beat Ric Flair by DQ ****1/4
Wow, M-A had quite the week. There was no wrestling on the show for the first half hour or so, but once the wrestling started, it was quite good, including a surprise, out of nowhere MOTYC between Sting and Ric Flair. My sources have told me that Flair is a temporary guest at M-A, in exchange for Rey Mysterio appearing on New England Wrestling. Anyhow, the other highlight of the show was a very bizarre taped segment with Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles at a Daniels family gathering. It was the type of segment that started out seemingly stupid, but by the end of it was making me laugh so hard I thought I might puke. M-A has become the territory to watch if you want sports entertainment, and they pull it off by being clever and innovative rather than by being crude and crass.
So another exciting week of NWA action is in the record books. I'll be back next week with thoughts on the September 23rd shows.

The Jukes Box #7
For the week of September 23rd
NWA: Mexico:
L.A. Par-K, La Parka II, and Virus beat Taka Michinoku, Kaz Hayashi, and Ikuto Hidaka **
Dr. Wagner Jr., Abismo Negro, and Cibernetico beat Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, and Ultimo Guerrero **1/4
Ultimo Dragon beat Super Dragon ***1/4
Juventud Guerrera beat Johnny Jeter **1/2
Dr. Wagner Jr., Abismo Negro, and Cibernetico beat L.A. Par-K, La Parka II, and Virus **1/2
Donovan Morgan beat Acero Dorado, Damian 666, and EZ Money **3/4
Mexico was noteworthy this week for two reasons: the crowning of Donovan Morgan as the first Galavision Champion, and the victory of Dr. Wagner Jr., Abismo Negro, and Cibernetico in the Trios Tournament. While the in-ring work was a step down from last week (which was expected considering last week was especially awesome) it was a fun week. The Trios Tournament finale was a lot more exciting that my star ratings indicate, and I was surprised when the La Parkas and Virus did not win. Also, Donovan Morgan as the Galavision Champ should make for some great television, and I think having a secondary belt will greatly boost the Mexico product. Lastley, Juvie carried Johnny Jeter to a decent match, for which I applaud him.
NWA: Midwest:
Sterling James Keenan beat Jimmy Jacobs 3/4*
B-Boy beat Jack Evans 3/4*
Claudio Castagnoli beat Ken Kennedy *
Kurt Angle and Batista beat Chris Benoit and Abyss **1/4
Midwest had an "ouch" week as far as the matches went. The Interstate Championship tournament matches were actually pretty solid, they were just on the short side. I am shocked that Kennedy has been jobbed out the way he has been, as it seemed he would be one of the premier playes in the Midwest, but apparently those in charge have other ideas. I see no harm in the push of Castagnoli. That, and Kennedy did technically lose because of Terry Funk, so it's good to see that feud continuing. My favorite segment of the night was Matt Striker's backstage segment. He really is on a roll, and I hope he comes out of this tournament as the champion.
NWA: Mid-Atlantic:
Fit Finlay beat Jay Lethal **
2 Live Kewl beat Hardy Boyz ***3/4
The Outsiders beat Backseat Boyz ***3/4
The Rock beat Umaga ***1/4
Ric Flair beat Christopher Daniels ****1/4
Mid-Atlantic continued it's streak of surprisingly awesome shows with the shocker of the half year: NEW's Ric Flair is now the Mid-Atlantic Champion! If you had told that Ric Flair was going to win any territory belt this year, let alone the NEW belt, I would've told you that you were insane. I guess anything can happen in M-A. The match took place after a long, but entertaining AJ Styles/Daniels segment in which AJ found his opportunity to screw Daniels. I am being quite serious when I say that even though Daniels and Styles have been feuding off an on for years, this is completely different than anything they've done before. This feud has produced outstanding in ring matches and hilarious backstage segments. The other noteworthy M-A event was The Rock defending the NWA Championship against Umaga, in a good match. I know many people on the message boards were going to be upset if that match did not take place while Rock was in M-A.
NWA: New England Wrestling:
Brian Kendrick and Jerrelle Clark beat Kevin Steen and Adam Pearce **1/4
Ron Killings beat Xavier **1/2
James Gibson beat Edge ***1/4
Rey Mysterio beat John Bradshaw Layfield, and Chris Jericho ****
This week Rey Mysterio picked up a much needed jolt of momentum heading into Manchester Mayhem, which will be airing tomorrow night on pay-per-view. Jericho allowed JBL to be pinned by Mysterio, which will add another dimension to the main event, which is Jericho vs. Mysterio, with JBL as the guest referee. I also found it refreshing to see James Gibson defending the Boston Harbor Championship against someone not named Kid Kash. Gibson's title defense against Edge really did a lot to help the prestige of the championship, in my humble opinion. Mick Foley cut another compelling promo, and I hate to say this, but Siaki kept up on the microphone himself. It seems that after a slow month of two, Siaki's push is back on track.
Until next time,
-Bill Jukes

The Jukes Box #8
For the week of September 30th
Hey folks, welcome to another edition of the Jukes Box. I didn't get to watch Mid-Atlantic this week because the station preempted it with reruns of Mama's Family. I have a lot to cover this week, including a large Midwest show and an NEW pay-per-view!
NWA: Mexico:
Johnny Jeter beat EZ Money *
Acero Dorado beat Charly Manson **1/4
Fuerza Guerrero beat Dos Caras Jr. 3/4*
Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, and Tarzan Boy beat TJ Wilson, Super Calo, and Pegasso 1/2*
Juventud Guerrera and Cibernetico beat El Hijo Del Santo and Perro Aguayo Jr.
Donovan Morgan beat Shocker **1/4
The wrestling this week was more solid than my star ratings would suggest. Everything was technically sound, the show as a whole just did not seem to click. It was good to see Morgan's first title defense, the Galavision belt is going to be a lot of fun from the looks of it. The show also featured more squash matches than I've become accostomed to, which is fine because I've been spoiled by the high standards Mexico has set for itself.
And that damn Johnny Jeter push continues!
NEW Manchester Mayhem:
Chris Hero, Frankie Kazarian, Matt Sydal, Kevin Steen, and Adam Pearce beat Carlito, Chris Sabin, Johnny Devine, Brian Kendrick, and Jerrelle Clark **1/4
Rhino beat Tommy Dreamer by DQ ***1/4
Kid Kash beat Shark Boy ***1/4
Jushin Liger and Tajiri beat Basham Brothers, America's Most Wanted, and D'Lo Brown and J.R. Ryder **3/4
Mick Foley beat Sonny Siaki ***1/2
Dudley Boyz beat Edge and Rob Van Dam ****1/4
James Gibson beat Ron Killings ***3/4
Rey Mysterio beat Chris Jericho ****1/4
NEW Saturday NightJushin Liger and Tajiri beat D'Lo Brown and J.R. Ryder ***1/4
Chris Sabin and Johnny Devine beat Carlito and Chris Hero **1/2
Sonjay Dutt beat Sonny Siaki **1/2
Dudley Boyz beat America's Most Wanted ***1/2
The Manchester Mayhem pay-per-view was a big deal in that Mid-Atlantic's Rey Mysterio defeated Chris Jericho to become the NEW Champion. This means that a M-A guy is holding the NEW belt while an NEW guy (Ric Flair) is holding the M-A belt at the same time. This is a huge deal that seems to not have attracted the attention and buzz that it should have. Personally, I think this is huge and I look forward to seeing how things play out in both federations.
Midwest: Slave to the Grind:
British Invasion beat Chair Swinging Freaks **1/4
Ken Kennedy drew Terry Funk **3/4
Raven beat CM Punk ***3/4
Abyss beat Batista **3/4
Kurt Angle beat Chris Benoit by DQ ****
Midwest Saturday Night:
Nick Dinsmore beat Chase Stevens 3/4*
Blackout beat Chair Swinging Freaks *1/2
Chad Collyer beat William Regal **1/2
Kurt Angle and Terry Funk beat Chris Benoit and Ken Kennedy ***1/4
Slave to the Grind was a really fun show, and had a very "In Your House" feel to it. The main event didn't deliver, unless you're the type that thinks Benoit/Angle should be ****3/4 every time they grapple. Apparently, the Chair Swinging Freaks were not pleased with their feud with the British Invasion and asked for it to be ended. Likewise, the British Invasion were upset with how stiff the Freaks were in their matches. As a result, it seems that the Freaks are being punished for their poor attitude and stiffness by doing some jobbing.
On the other hand, Raven and CM Punk were EXTREMELY pleased with how their feud played out, particularly with how over Punk has become. Punk is positioned for a bigger push, and it looks as though Raven will be facing enemies from his past. Also, the Interstate Tournament has been a lot of fun (go Collyer!) and Midwest management hopes that once the championship has been crowned, it will create two (or more) stars from the mid-card.
Midwest is hoping to start running pay-per-views early next year.

The Jukes Box #9
For the week of October 14th
Yeah, I skipped last week, but what can I say, I was busy as hell. In fact, I'm just as busy right now, the only difference is that I'm too pumped up with school work to even stomach doing any more, so here is the Jukes Box!
I did not watch Mexico this week, though I do have a copy of their recent large event, expect my thoughts on that next week.
NWA: New England Wrestling:
James Gibson beat Doug Basham ***3/4
D'Lo Brown beat Jushin Liger **3/4
Kid Kash and America's Most Wanted beat Ron Killings and the Dudley Boyz **3/4
Chris Jericho beat Rob Van Dam, Carlito, and Rhino ***3/4
Interesting week of NEW, as the Resistance card became much more fleshed out. I don't know about you, but the Siaki/Dreamer segment was downright BRUTAL! Sure, it was a tribute to when Dreamer did the same thing in ECW, but it really put over Sonny Siaki as a potential bad-ass. That street fight at Resistance, which will be Siaki and Dreamer versus Mick Foley and Rhino, has the potential to really put Siaki over big time. The mid-card in NEW has really heated up, and I think it is actually more interesting then their main event scene.
NWA: Mid-Atlantic:
The Highlanders beat Vampire Warriors 3/4*
Precious Lucy and Mikey Whipwreck beat 2 Live Kewl **3/4
Chavo Guerrero beat Jeff Hardy, Romeo, and Scott Hall ***
Sting and Jay Lethal beat Val Venis and Umaga **3/4
AJ Styles beat The Rock by DQ ***3/4
Another Bohemian heavy episode of Flood, but that's okay. Wrestling needs some fresh stables, and Les Bohemians fit that slot well. They will be facing NEW's Pushing the Limits faction at Clash of the Champions, that should be an interesting bout. There have evidently been a lot of grumblings backstage at the prolonged push of Precious Lucy, how she constantly keeps going over male opponents. Some are praising this as a breakthrough in professional wrestling, while others think it is exposing the sport. Precious Lucy will be representing M-A at the Clash of the Champions in the ten man scramble tag against PTL, and there have been rumors that Kevin Steen and Matt Sydal have openly said they do NOT want to job to her. It will be interesting to see how things play out.
NWA: Hawaii:
Trevor Murdoch beat Bisom Smith *1/2
Lance Cade beat Justin Credible 1/4*
Simon Diamond beat Heidenreich 1/2*
Perry Saturn beat Johnny Swinger **1/4
Lance Cade beat Trevor Murdoch **3/4
Perry Saturn beat Simon Diamond *3/4
Lance Cade beat Perry Saturn **
Hawaii held their second event, featuring a one night tournament to crown the NWA: Hawaii champion. The tournament was by far an abortion, but the atmosphere at the show was just unreal. There were about 250 loyal fans there, and they really got into the Cade/Murdoch match, as well as anything that Perry Saturn was involved with. Lance Cade is now the title holder, which will be interesting because he is considered to be a high prospect amongst NWA officials, and could be scooped up by one of the major territories at any moment.
NWA Midwest:
Matt Striker beat Bobby Roode *1/2
Lords of the Ring beat British Invasion **1/2
James Sterling Keenan beat B-Boy *1/4
Chris Benoit beat CM Punk ***1/2
The Interstate Championship tournament continues to please me, as Matt Striker advances yet again. I felt a little lost this week since I did not sit down and watch last week's episode, I just read the results on the internet. I am a bit frightened that Terry Funk is heading into another hardcore war as he will face Mr. Kennedy in a Texas Death Match at Vendetta. The main event this week was noteworthy too, as CM Punk's advancement up the card continued with a big match against Chris Benoit. Seriously, I had no choice but to mark out hardcore for this one. The good news is that Midwest management was pleased with the match too, as well as with the British Invasion/LOTR match too, even though I wasn't too crazy about the latter. The Lords of the Ring will be finishing their feud with the Naturals at Vendetta, now THAT I cannot wait to see.
Also, there are rumors going around that Paul London is absolutely miserable in Midwest and is petitioning to be traded to another territory. Midwest management may grant London the trade, assuming that the other territories make some good offers. Whoever makes the best offer, will get London.
That's all! I'll be back next week with all the action from the 10/21 shows, a Mexico large event, and some thoughts on the upcoming Clash of the Champions pay-per-view!
Later,

The Jukes Box #10
November 6th 2006
I'm playing a little bit of catchup this week, as I'll be looking back at the huge Clash of the Champions weekend, which saw two pay-per-views, as well as the Saturday night shows, and Rey Mysterio defending the NEW Championship three times in the same weekend!
NWA: New England Wrestling:
Resistance:
The Dudley Boyz beat America's Most Wanted ***3/4
Chris Sabin beat Matt Sydal *1/2
Kid Kash beat Ron Killings ***1/4
D'Lo Brown beat Tajiri ***1/4
Sonny Siaki and Tommy Dreamer beat Mick Foley and Rhino ***1/2
Rey Mysterio beat John Bradshaw Layfield ***1/2
Carlito beat Rob Van Dam ****1/4
James Gibson drew Chris Jericho ****1/2
Resistance was a really solid pay-per-view, capped off by two MOTYC's. Apparently the original plan going into the show was that JBL was going to take the NEW title from Mysterio, but the postponing of Clash of the Champions changed the plan because NEW management specifically wanted Mysterio/Jericho to take place at the Clash. Things seemed to have worked out okay, as indicated by the events of the 11/3 episode of Saturday Night.
NEW Saturday Night (10/28):
Carlito, Adam Pearce, Matt Sydal, Kevin Steen, and Frankie Kazarian beat Rob Van Dam, Edge, America's Most Wanted, and Hardcore Holly **1/2
Chris Jericho beat D'Lo Brown by DQ ***3/4
Basham Brothers beat Brian Kendrick and Jerrelle Clark **1/4
Rey Mysterio beat Kid Kash ***3/4
This was an interesting episode of NEW since they were coming off of Resistance, but had the Clash of the Champions coming up the very next night. Eric Bischoff's scheme to take the NEW title from Mysterio failed again, as the red hot Kid Kash came up short. The other interesting event here was that JBL reunited with the Basham Brothers, recruiting them to be his Cabinet again, and helping them pick up a much needed victory. The other bonus this week was the appearance of Mid-Atlantic's entertaining stable, Les Bohemians, as they beat down PTL heading into the Clash.
NWA: Mid-Atlantic:
Sting and Steven Richards beat Val Venis and Umaga, Vampire Warriors, and 2 Skinny Black Guys **
Kane beat The Boogeyman **3/4
The Outsiders beat Backseat Boyz ***1/2
The Rock drew Big Show ****
Ric Flair beat John Cena ****
This was a very random episode of M-A, as there were a lot of title matches without much rhyme or reason, and Les Bohemians were noticably not in attendance (as they were giving PTL an ass kicking over in NEW). Still, the Rock/Big Show and Flair/Cena matches were unexpectably awesome, and had the crowd on the edge of their seats. I mean really, I was shouting at the top of my lungs watching Flair and Cena go at it, and that is really what wrestling is all about, am I right?
NWA: Mexico:
Border Brawl:
Los Vipers beat Los Barrio Boys **3/4
Rey Bucanero and Ultimo Guerrero beat Jody Fleisch and Shocker ***1/2
Acero Dorado and Matt Stryker beat Mr. Aguila and Super Dragon **3/4
Ultimo Dragon beat EZ Money ***1/4
Mexico's Most Wanted beat Averno and Mephisto ***1/2
Cibernetico beat El Hijo Del Santo ***3/4
Dr. Wagner Jr. and Fuerza Guerrera beat La Parkas ***1/4
Juventud Guerrera beat Perro Aguayo Jr. ***3/4
First off, I was in complete shock when Perro Aguayo Jr. lost the championship so quickly, but I marked out like a little kid when Juventud won the belt. If that is not the smartest booking decision of the year, then I have romantic feelings towards Howard Dean. Seriously, that main event was one of the most memorable in recent memory. Mexico seems to be in a bit of a shake-up, as Dr. Wagner Jr. and Fuerza Guerrera became the new Mexican Tag Team Champions. This was a show of great change, and I was a bit disappointed by the lack of buzz this show got on the net.
Mexico Saturday Night (10/28):
Shocker beat Super Dragon **3/4
Fast Eddie beat Pegasso *1/4
Acero Dorado beat Charly Manson ***1/4
Donovan Morgan beat Virus **3/4
Rey Bucanero and Ultimo Guerrero beat Los Barrio Boys ***3/4
L.A. Par-K beat Cibernetico ***3/4
The standout for me this week was the impressive match that Fast Eddie and Pegasso put on. Don't let that measly star rating fool you, that was merely due to the crowd being a bunch of idiots and sitting on their hands for the majority of the match. It was actually a fast paced, exciting match up, which once again featuring me jumping out of my chair at a couple of the near falls. I have high hopes for both men in their Mexican careers.
NWA: Midwest:
Vendetta:
Onyx beat Matt Striker
The Naturals beat Lords of the Ring
Chad Collyer beat B-Boy
Ken Kennedy beat Terry Funk
Onyx beat Chad Collyer
Batista beat William Regal, Sabu, and Abyss
Chris Benoit beat Kurt Angle
I have not watched Vendetta yet, so I do not have the star ratings for you. It was reported to have been a very good show, but it didn't live up to the shows that Midwest had been delivering lately. I will say that Onyx emerged as the Interstate Champion, which was a surprise, as I had pegged either Chad Collyer or Matt Striker to take the gold.
Midwest Saturday Night (10/28):
CM Punk and Jimmy Jacobs beat Jerry Lynn and Claudio Castagnoli
Briscoe Brothers beat Lords of the Ring
William Regal beat Chad Collyer
Batista and Raven beat Abyss and Sabu
I didn't have time to actually watch this show either, so no star ratings yet. It was said to be a really good show, with some interesting plot turns. Midwest has a very appealing roster and smart booking, it is a company to keep an eye on.
NWA: Clash of the Champions:
Chavo Guerrero, Shane Helms, Chris Masters, Mikey Whipwreck, and Precious Lucy beat Carlito, Frankie Kazarian, Matt Sydal, Adam Pearce, and Kevin Steen *3/4
The British Invasion beat La Parkas, Dudley Boyz, and The Outsiders ***
James Gibson beat Jay Lethal, and Homicide **1/2
Ken Kennedy won the Invitational Battle Royal *3/4
Rey Mysterio beat Chris Jericho ****1/4
Ric Flair beat Randy Orton, John Cena, and Kane ***3/4
Chris Benoit beat Batista ***1/2
Juventud Guerrera beat Psicosis ***3/4
El Hijo Del Santo beat The Rock ***3/4
I was really worried about how this show would turn out, especially after it had been postponed, but it turned out to be a really memorable night. It was a truly special sight to see El Hijo Del Santo defeat The Rock to become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, especially in front of a Mexican audience in the main event of one of the biggest pay-per-views of the year. All of the territory championship matches delivered, though some viewers were a little disappointed at the lack of title changes. Personally, I don't mind that at all, as all four major NWA territories looked good at the event.
Whew, that was a lot of recapping. It's good to be back.
