The Jukes Box #1
For August 12th 2006

This was quite the week in NWA action. All five major NWA territories have been turning out quality shows and putting on top notch matches. Let's take a look at the in ring happenings this week.

NEW Saturday Night:
Carlito over Johnny Devine **3/4
James Gibson over Rene Dupree **3/4
Kid Kash over Sonjay Dutt **
Doug Basham over Ron Killings **3/4
The Rock and Rhino over Chris Jericho and Sonny Siaki ****

NEW has made great strides in the past couple of months, and they are set to present the 19th annual Summerslam on pay-per-view on August 20th. This came about when President Rowe felt the need to maintain some of the traditions of the defunct World Wrestling Entertainment. The show is promising to be an explosive debut for NEW on pay-per-view, as The Rock and Chris Jericho will have their highly anticipated rematch. Also, the Boston Harbor Championship, NEW's answer to the Intercontinental title, will make it's debut, as Carlito, Ron Killings, Kid Kash, and Doug Basham square off in a fatal fourway match for the gold.

In the early PTL drafting process, NEW has hired Chris Hero and Frankie Kazarian. NEW has been criticized for the "revolving door" that seems to plague the roster. President Rowe was questioned about this, and just answered that this is all part of the process of putting together the definitive NEW roster, one that will fit his absolute vision for the future of the promotion. Recent casualties of the revolving door have been Scott D'Amore, Johnny Jeter, and Ken Doane, none of whom ever appeared on NEW television.

CSW Cyclone Saturday Night:
Petey Williams over Low Ki and Roderick Strong **
Brent Albright over Chance Beckett 1/4*
FBI over World's Greatest Tag Team, Mexicools, and Doring and Roadkill **
Masato Tanaka over Elix Skipper **
Steve Corino and Triple H over Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar **3/4

These match ratings do not give justice to the highly exciting show that Cyclone Saturday Night has become. CSW has arguably done the best job of any NWA territory of utilizing the talent and putting each worker into the role that suits them best. CSW is the type of fed that works the fans who think they are too smart to be worked. Nobody guessed Samoa Joe would wind up teaming with Generation Next at Insurgency because everyone assumed he would have been in a long winded feud with The Undertaker. Nobody saw the logical reformation of DX, even though so many former members of the group were making impacts each week. Even this week, Steve Corino's CSW title victory was the single most unpredictable moment in recent wrestling history, and has set up a hugely appealing card for CSW's debut pay-per-view, Art of War. Lesnar will challenge Corino for the CSW title, in what will surely be another MOTYC. Plus, CSW is bringing back the War Games match, as DX will face Samoa Joe and Generation Next in a rematch from Insurgency.

CSW hired Bryan Danielson in the first round of the PTL draft.

NWA Mexico:
Acero Dorado over Olimpico 1/2*
Los Guerreros over Blue Demon Jr. and Virus *
Dr. Wagner Jr. over Super Calo *
El Hijo Del Santo over Mr. Aguila *3/4
L.A. Park and La Parka II over Abismo Negro and Cibernetico *3/4

With NWA: Japan out of business, NWA: Mexico is the fed for the pure wrestling fans. The show remains faithful to traditional lucha libre wrestling programs and features the finest of Mexico's talent pool. Don't let the match star ratings fool you, NWA: Mexico routinely puts on the finest in-ring action, the matches are only hurt by the poor crowd support. Mexico has quite a bit of momentum on the heels of a highly successful trios tournament, which featured represenatives from the other NWA territories, and features classic wrestling feuds in place of outlandish sports entertainment.

NWA: Mexico also hired Shocker and Matt Stryker from the defunct PTL. The upcoming debuts of both men have created a wave of excitement.

NWA: M-A Saturday Night Flood
Mikey Whipwreck, Chris Masters, and Snitsky over Piloto Suicida, Human Tornado, and El Generico *3/4
Chavo Guerrero over Steven Richards **3/4
Shane Helms over Kevin Nash ***
Kane over Rey Mysterio ***1/2
Sting and AJ Styles over Christopher Daniels and Randy Orton ***3/4

Les Bohemiens debuted on Flood this week. The stable, the brain child of President Plague, are a group of highly pretentios artist folks, featuring a unique group of workers who needed career overalls. Melina Perez is the face of the group, the results should be interesting. The group may have come on a bit strong, as matches featuring members took up over half of this week's Flood, but it shows confidence in the group. M-A is coming off the success of the very successful Master and Commander show, in which AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels tore the house down in the main event. M-A has been criticized by other NWA promoters for the booking style of the shows, but it's hard to question the quality of the matches.

M-A also created quite the stir when they had NEW's Rhino do a 37 second job to the Ultimate Warrior. This reportedly enraged officials in NEW, feeling that M-A had crossed the line. There are rumors that something will happen in the coming weeks on NEW Saturday Night to serve as payback.

M-A has picked up Matt Hardy and Finlay from PTL.

NWA: Midwest was seemingly preempted this week. The Midwest territory has been a consistently entertaining part of the NWA, though preemptions have hurt it over the past couple of months.

Dude, you should have a day off more often. This was an awesome read, and I hope you keep it up.

I'd love the McSheets to make their triumphant return as well.

SamoaRowe - August 2, 2006 08:27 PM (GMT)
Hey, I'm glad you liked it. I know it's no where near as entertaining as the McSheets were, but I figured it would be better than nothing :)

I'm hoping it will also make it easier for all of us to follow each other's feds.
