| The Scrooge McSheets Issue #1: DWB NWA: Saturday Night Update: - Mid-Atlantics' Saturday Night Flood pulled in a strong 2.03 rating for this week with an attendance figure slightly over the 1,500 mark. Starting off slow, the show began hitting it's peak rating during Hulk Hogan vs. Rhino, and staying strong through the remainder of the broadcast. This week's episode featured a strong card of 8 matches, but most of them were ruined because of brainless post-match over-booking and the lack of Hulk Hogan. This weeks main event of A.J. Styles vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. scored the best rating of the night at ***1/2, but ended on a DQ thanks to interference from Rhyno. Other highlights of the night included Warrior and Boogeyman blowing spots in their match, Sting killing Randy Orton with a baseball bat, and lots of over-booked nonsense I wouldn't dignify by mentioning here. - NEW Saturday Night continues to impress critics, but the fans seem to be losing interest. This weeks rating of NEW came in overall at 1.87, down from last weeks 2.03 and the 2.06 scored on 5/13. This weeks main event of the Rock N Sock Connection vs. Chris Jericho, Ric Flair, and Sonny Siaki was a great match like expected to have been. The meat and potatoes of the show featured Christian Cage and Kane advancing to the next round of the World Title Tournament over Rene Dupree and Edge respectively, with 2 more Quarter-Final Matches planned for next week. - Central States Wrestling Cyclone Saturday Night continues chugging along like the little Engine that could, providing an entertainment show from top to bottom and keeping their viewers throughout the entire broadcast, highlighted by a strong #1 Contenders Match between Triple H and Shelton Benjamin and New Tag Team Champs crowned. Coming in with an overall 2.17 nielsen rating (up from last weeks 2.14) and an attendance just over the 2,000 mark again, CSW continues to keep competition in their dust in terms of quality and fanbase size. - NWA: Mexico's Saturday Night also proved to bring in strong ratings with a 2.10 this week. Despite a somewhat disappointing main event in the form of El Hijo Del Santo vs. Averno in the 1st Round of the Mexican National Title Tournament, the show featured strong performances by Fuerza Guerrero, Ultimo Dragon, Damian 666, and Charly Manson. Despite having less of an impact on the general public in terms of promoting, NWA Mexico remains one of the top territory to follow thanks to a deep talent pool. - NWA: Pushing The Limits was absent from television this week, so I won't bother stretching out this comment any more than I have already done. - NWA: Japan continues to dominate in terms of quality, producing 4 must-see matches out of 5 overall booked. Despite only pulling a 2.03 rating (slightly up from last weeks 1.99), we'll see how well this tactic works with next weeks rating, which should easily go up at least to the 2.10 range. Featured on this weeks episode is Samoa Joe making a surprise appearence to rob Masato Tanaka of an open contract to be a part of the NWA Japan Championship Tournament, as well as an early MOTY Candidate in Jushin Liger vs. Naomichi Marafuji. To save potential fuck ups in spelling, I will simply refer to him as Marafuji from now on, and with my love for Jushin Liger, NWA:Japan remains the top of the Scrooge Personal Preference List. - Midwest Saturday Night pulled in a respectable 2.01, down 1/10th of a point from last week. Despite the minor drop, attendance figures remained the same, which can easily be considered the silver lining of the cloud. The blame for this drop could be put on the idea of ending the show with a Contract Signing between Dave Batista and William Regal, and having a fairly week undercard without a stand out match to support such a decision. DWB-NWA Promotions: Match of the Night for the week of May 27th, 2006 Mid-Atlantic: A.J. Styles vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. (84/74/95) NEW: Rock N' Sock Connection vs. Jericho/Flair/Siucki (86/90/78) CSW: The Mexicools vs. The Natural Born Thrillers (84/73/96) Mexico: Ultimo Dragon vs. Fuerza Guerrera (70/62/79) Midwest: Raven vs. Monty Brown (77/78/75) Japan: Jushin Liger vs. Marafuji (70/46/95) PTL: No Episode (X) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Around the Rumor Mill and Up-to-Date Announcements... NWA NEW ENGLAND WRESTLING Sources close to the president of NEW have confirmed that the co-main event for NEW River Rumble will feature Chris Jericho vs. The Rock in a Non-Title Match, and Kane vs. Christian Cage for the NEW Championship. This comes across as a huge surprise, considering the statement made by President Rowe that he would be building the promotion around Chris Jericho and the Rock, but has both men out of the tournament in favor of two surprising contenders. Already confirmed for River Rumble is a 3-Way Tag Match featuring Team 3-D, America's Most Wanted, and the Basham Brothers for the Tag Team Championship. In more news regarding NEW Superstar Kane, there have been preliminary talks of signing a relatively unknown to act as a kind of manager or other form of non-wrestling personality for him. Hints have been made during Kane matches of this from a willing to participate party, but nothing has been confirmed and no word has come up in the last few weeks to further such a rumor. Other preliminary talks considered doing an angle where two undefeated superstars would wrestle sometime down the road at a large Pay-Per-View broadcast, but conflicting interest and lack of undefeated main event power have stalled the idea. However, there's still a chance an Inter-Promotional match of the same caliber could be worked out with one of those who have had a strong working relationship with NEW, but we have no further information regarding that possibility. Despite the strong response against pushing Sonny Siaki by his associates, President Rowe is still very high on him for a potential upper-card threat, possibly against the likes of the Rock in a "Impersonater" angle, and there even have been rumors he could be a World Title Contender by the end of the year. In Transaction news, rumors are flying all over the place of NEW making a high profile trade to Mid-Atlantic for Wrestling Legend Hulk Hogan to have a Dream Feud with several of the top talent in NEW down the line. Talks are still going at this time, and Plague has yet to make any comment on making a decision, but those close to him have informed me he would consider making the trade in exchange for someone along the lines of Ric Flair or Mick Foley, two superstars currently being used in a background situation. For those who have ignored NEW Television (and considering the drop in ratings, there are some) lately, NEW Traded potential Main Eventer Steve Corino to Central States Wrestling for undercard wonder Chris Sabin. Again, a strong adviser to the NEW attempted to get into the ear of the President and have Chris Sabin jobbed out in a way to send a message to the CSW President. NEW President Rowe has confirmed this story and stated he would never consider doing such a thing. NWA MEXICO Incase anyone missed the announcement on the official NWA Mexico Page, it has been confirmed that the following teams will compete in a Tournament to be crowned the first Mexican Tag Team Champions: Los Guerreros del Infiern (Ray Bucanero & Ultimo Guerrero), Mexico's Most Wanted (Damian 666 & Halloween), Los Vipers (Histeria II & Psicosis), Los Demonios (Averno & Mephisto), Blue Demon Jr. & Virus, L.A. Par-K & La Parka II, Charly Manson & Cuervo, and Abismo Negro & Cibernetico. The remaining matches of the 1st Round of the Mexican Title Tournament will be broadcasted on the next episode of Saturday Night, featuring the following matches: Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. Octagon, Ultimo Guerrero vs. Safari, Virus vs. Cuervo, La Parka II vs. Mr. Aguila, and L.A. Par-K vs. Histeria. Also confirmed for this week is a Hair vs. Hair Match featuring Juventud Guerrera taking on the Latin Lover. With Guerrera's high respect for himself, I wouldn't be surprised if he threw a hissy fit if scheduled to job next week. Small rumors have surfaced that the Hair vs. Hair Match for this weeks episode of Saturday Night would feature the shaving of something other than the head. Thankfully president Mad Dog denied these rumors... then refused to make it an exploding anus match, at the request of some loser who doesn't know shit about shit. Incase anyone missed the Press Conference held by President Mad Dog, it has been confirmed that NWA Mexico SuperStar Mistico had suffered a serious knee injury. The extent of the damage is still unknown, but he is likely to miss at least a year of action, and possibly as much as 18 months. The Sheets wish Mistico the best of luck for a speedy recovery. With the Worlds Trio Cup Tournament starting on June 17th, with "exhibition" matches featuring Non-Mexican Teams making appearences on June 3rd & 10th, President Mad Dog held a special World Trios Tournament Special to announce the participants of the 16-Trios Teams Tournament. The following is a list of all the teams from Team Mexico and the various other NWA Promotions, in order of which they were selected at random... 1. L.A. Par-K, La Parka II, Virus 2. Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy 3. El Hijo del Santo, Ultimo Dragon, Blue Demon Jr. 4. Dr. Wagner Jr., Abismo Negro, Cibernetico 5. Juventud Guerrera, Mr. Aguila, Fuerza Guerrera 6. Perro Aguayo Jr., Damian 666, Halloween 7. Latin Lover, Dos Caras Jr., Acero Dorado 8. Kaz Hayashi, Ikuto Hidaka, TAKA Michinoku (Team Japan) 9. Hector Garza, Histeria II, Psicosis 10. Olimpico, Averno, Mephisto 11. Brian Kendrick, Jerrelle Clark, Sonjay Dutt (Team NEW) 12. Rey Mysterio Jr., Jay Lethal, Jimmy Rave (Team Mid-Atlantic) 13. Andy Douglas, Chase Stevens, Paul London (Team Midwest) 14. Charly Manson, Cuervo, Electro Shock 15. Safari, Super Calo, Tiger Blanco II 16. Octagon, Pegasso, Billy Boy This quite easily is one of the best collection of talent from around the world that the DWB:NWA has seen to date for a tag team competition. Hopefully the execution will be worth the price of such a deep tournament that could get confusing with an amatuer promoter. NWA CENTRAL STATES WRESTLING As of this publishing, the only match scheduled for CSW Redemption (being held on June 30th, 2006) is a World Title Rematch between Champion Jeff Jarrett and Triple H, who defeated Shelton Benjamin for the #1 Contendership this past week on Cyclone Saturday Night. When asked about the decision to push such a match featuring two borderline unliked superstars, President Geist was quoted as saying "They're two of the biggest draws and most consistent workers of the last decade." Incase there are doubters, that last sentence was not altered to stretch the truth of the comment. From the Department of Obvious, CSW's other big plans include a feud between Samoa Joe and Masato Tanaka, as well as a possible midcard angle between Alex Shelley and X-Pac, which will be fueled by the situation between them from the 1st Round of the CSW Championship Tournament. As of now, no further details have been given on plans for the Tag Team Championship, but educated guesses expect a feud between the Natural Born Thrillers and the Mexicools to surface following the NBT's championship victory this past week. Speaking of Samoa Joe, unconformed and very vague rumors have been circulating that President Geist is seeking to sign Rikishi to a contract in hopes of building up the next big Samoan Tap Team. Personally, I don't trust this rumor, but stranger things have happend, like the trade of Steve Corino and Chris Sabin. On the subject of that trade, President Geist offered an exclusive interview to this Newsletter, and revealed some interesting comments regarding the trade. It appears President Rowe should've held up on the trade and waited for a better offer without taking the first, a common rule in negotiations, but Geist has been quoted to saying that if Rowe were to refuse accepting Chris Sabin, he was willing to offer, to name a few, James Gibson, Low-Ki, and Charlie Haas. While all on equal ground when it comes to card position, Chris Sabin would have to be considered the bottom rung of the workrate ladder. President Geist continued making disparaging comments about President Rowe personally, his decision making, and taste. When asked if he would consider trading for NEW Superstar Kane, Mr. Geist commented that he wouldn't know how to use him that and he doesn't fit in with his crop of talented wrestlers Geist then went as far to say that NEW was pushing the wrong people when it was revealed under Pinky Swearing Secret Rules that Kane was a possible choice to be the NEW Champion. Despite pressing and hard hitting questions that would make a normal man crack faster than Barry Bonds joints, President Geist held to his guns and otherwise made sure to not disrespect the NEW further than he already has. In other roster news, Central States is quickly preparing itself to featuring the strongest tag team division in the entire DWB:NWA. Featuring such star teams as the Tag Champions Natural Born Thrillers, the Mexicools, Danny Doring and Roadkill, the New Age Outlaws, and Team Canada, President Geist has revealed plans of extending the division further, adding a possible 3-4 more teams to the mix. No word yet on any of the possible candidates for the division, but if any word comes in, I'll be breaking the story first. Central States Wrestling held it's first SuperCard of the year in the form of Blaze of Glory, broadcasted on May 23rd, 2006 from the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, MO, drawing an attendance just slightly shy of the 4,000 mark and featuring the finals of the Owen Hart Memorial Tournament. The following are the results and my ratings for each match in short-form... 1. Elix Skipper, Kid Kash, Vampiro, Mike Sanders def. Brent Albright, Chris Chetti, James Gibson, Chris Sabin in an 8-Man Elimination Tag Match - (69/72/64) 2. Alex Shelley pinned X-Pac at 10:43 - (76/64/89) 3. Jeff Jarrett pinned Shelton Benjamin in the Semi-Finals of the Memorial Tournament. (74/75/75) 4. Austin Aries & Roderick Strong def. Shane Douglas & Tazz at 9:50 - (71/63/79) 5. The Natural Born Thrillers def. The New Age Outlaws at 8:23 (77/73/81) 6. Samoa Joe pinned Masato Tanaka at 25:14 (87/77/97) 7. TAG TITLES: The Mexicools def. Petey Williams & Johnny Devine at 10:02 - (74/64/85) 8. Jeff Jarrett def. Triple H at 18:43 of the Championship Finals by Submission - (88/87/89) NWA MID-ATLANTIC: First, to kill the rumors, it was not I that was gored by the untalented pile of crap that goes by the name of Rhyno. If I was, I would've tracked down President Plague and handed him his ass on a championship belt. This past week Mid-Atlantic held it's May Day SuperCard, which has gotten mixed reviews from the critic and fellow promoters of the DWB:NWA concering booking style and lack of promotion. May Day has been confirmed for drawing an estimated attendance of 6,500 (worth a gate of over $250,000). The following are the results for Mid-Atlanic May Day... 1. The Outsiders & The Heart Throbs defeated The Backseat Boyz & Lacey's Angels - *3/4 2. Christopher Daniels pinned Goldberg - ***1/4 3. Sting defeated the Ultimate Warrior - *3/4 4. A.J Styles defeated John Cena - ***3/4 5. Hulk Hogan pinned Randy Orton - ***1/2 6. Steven Richards won a 20-Man Battle Royale, last eliminating Val Venis - **1/2 7. The Heart Throbs defeated The Outsiders for the Vacant Mid-Atlantic Tag Titles - **1/2 8. Val Venis pinned Steven Richards for the Virginia State Title - **1/2 9. Christopher Daniels defeated Hulk Hogan, Sting, and A.J. Styles in a Four-Corners 60-Minute Ironman Match, winning 6 falls to 5, 5 and 5 to become the 1st Mid-Atlanic Champion. - ***1/2 Presently, no concrete notice has been given on who will be the main threat to Christopher Daniels over the Mid-Atlantic Championship. Strong candidates include Tournament Finalists Hulk Hogan, Sting, and A.J. Styles, but other choices could be Randy Orton, the Ultimate Warrior, and Steven Richards, a wet dream favorite of Presient Geist. This lack of information shouldn't come as a surprise, as President Plague has been quoted as "Booking WCW 2000 Style." Speaking of the Ultimate Warrior, rumors are floating around that he has become even more sloppy in the ring than usual, and the wrestlers of Mid-Atlantic are fed up with his dangerous style. This past week on Saturday Night Flood, the Warrior knocked out one of the Boogeyman's teeth with a wild clothesline, and Sting has been quoted to saying working with Warrior was one of the worst experiences he's had in the ring. Unlike the Tag Team Division of Central States, Mid-Atlantic seems to feature tag teams no one wants to deal with. The Outsiders should be considered nothing more than a giant headache to any promoter, the Heart Throbs are a one-note gimmick team with a short life span, the Backseat Boyz aren't worth the time of day to even insult, and Lacey's Angels shouldn't even be considered for a spot on a Supercard, unless the mentality was "use everyone possible that's under contract to Mid-Atlantic." As noted earlier during the ratings rundown, I haven't been a strong follower of the booking style chosen by President Plague. Everything is all over the map, sucky finishes to great matches, and over-using certain wrestlers to the point it becomes tiresom to watch them, no matter how good, or in some cases bad, they are. With the WCW 2000 comment, one cannot help but wonder where President Plague is coming from, and when will he settle down and try to put on a coherent show more often than once a month. With little information passed on to the public and not much more mentioned during staff meetings ahead of time enough to be mentioned here, there's not much more to say on Mid-Atlantic other than "let's hope this shit starts making more sense." NWA: JAPAN As confirmed by this weeks episode of Ichibian TV, NWA Japan President Kido has suspended Masahiro Chono from the Championship Tournament, and replaced him with Samoa Joe via an open contract. With NWA Japan also using Masato Tanaka as well, don't be surprised of NWA Japan and Central States have worked out a deal that will feature Joe/Tanaka continuing a feud on Japan TV while leaving time open on Cyclone Saturday to devote to pushing other feuds and superstars who have had limited television exposure at this point. Still on the subject of this weeks Ichiban TV, considering the several altercations featuring KENTA & Fujimara and Jushin Liger, I wouldn't be surprised if we were to see either a tag team match or a singles match between Liger and KENTA on the next episode of Ichiban TV. With little to go by, you'll have to take this one at face value. And I love saying Ichiban TV. It's got such a nice ring to it, don't you think? With a broadcast delay for Ichiban TV, no word has come up yet on fan reaction to the questionable form of cheap finishes, featuring three matches ending in a Draw/No Contest, and the above mentioned of KENTA Running in to cost Liger his match with Fujimara. As long as angles are advanced this way without doing it every week, I feel it's a good move now and then so not to blow away a true finish on free TV instead of on a SuperCard or Pay-Per-View. Judging by the finish of Genichiro Tenryu vs. Mitsuharu Misawa, we shouldn't be surprised by the actions of Kenta Kobashi, who is currently engaged in a feud with Tenryu that has gotten personal a long time ago. With the brutal beating Kobashi gave Tenryu on Ichiban TV this past week, expect Tenryu to retaliate next week in an equal or even more painful fashion. This feud has only begun, and I would expect it to keep going through the summer, unless an unfortunate situation like injuries brings everything to an abrupt hault. For those who missed the announcement of the participants for the NWA:Japan Championship Tournament, here is a complete list of matches scheduled for the 1st Round of action, which will begin in the coming weeks... 1. Samoa Joe (sub. for Chono) vs. Takeshi Rikio, 2. Bison Smith vs. Satoshi Kojima, 3. Akira Taue vs. Mitsuharu Misawa, 4. Taiyo Kea vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, 5. Toshiiaki Kawada vs. Yoshihiro Takayama, 6. Go Shosaki vs. Jun Akiyama, 7. Hiyoyoshi Tenzan vs. Keiji Mutoh, and 8. Kenta Kobashi vs. Riki Choshu. This tournament will no doubt guarantee plenty of great matches that you can only see in NWA Japan. With no further details available due to the excellent "keeping it under wraps" work from President Kido, everything else left to say is pure speculation, and that isn't my game. The only thing left to say is that if you haven't been reading Ichiban TV lately, I recommend you do. It's awesome god dammit, awesome! NWA PUSHING THE LIMITS (PTL) With no episode of Saturday Night this week, and the President of PTL MIA, no word has surfaced on wether or not he will return. Without President Whatshisname absent from power, we're sorry to inform we don't have any scoops on PTL, and with limited shows produced, it would be impossible to try and draw an accurate conclussion to what could be happening down the line of PTL Returns. NWA MIDWEST With only a few days removed from NWA Midwest's "Summer Glory" SuperCard, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there will be one last hard sell of all hard sells this week on Saturday Night. With the on-going struggles between Dave Batista and the British Invasion, Hardcore Legend Terry Funk in action, Chris Benoit being allowed to mame Bill Alfonso in an actual match, an appearence by Homocide, and a special announcement of the Midwest Tag Team Championships, this weeks episode of Midwest is surely one you do not want to miss. Don't be surprised if President Swigg releases the combination of Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney any time soon. Both guys are considered to be very unpopular in recent weeks backstage, and their style of wrestling is a hazzard to not only themselves, but everyone they step in the ring with. Trusty sources have wired to me that Kory Chavis suffered a concussion due to the constant wild blows thrown by Balls... and Balls is NOT a funny name, no more how you try to use it. Okay, I'm lying, it was fairly humorous the first few times, but it's been over-done to the point it should be let go for a while. The Decision to put Onyx and Homocide together as a team was a last minute decision, and there are still plenty of chances to speculate why they were put together in the first place. Probably because neither is exactly White Bread. Speaking of this "team", they cut a pretty terrible promo on this weeks episode of Saturday Night, but we know that there is bad blood brewing between them and Jerry Lynn, which should play out for the next month or so thanks to the addition of Onyx to the mix. If you expect Chris Benoit to beat the crap out of Bill Alfonso on this weeks show, you really need to pull your head from your ass. History has proven over and over that whenever a Wrestler vs. Non-Wrestler match is booked, the Non-Wrestler either doesn't show up, or 7-8 people run in for him and wipe the floor with his opponent. Hopefully President Swigg doesn't use this formula, but don't be surprised when Chris Benoit jobs to the guy who does nothing but constantly blow a whistle. No word yet on where the team of Nigel McGuinness and Paul Burchill are going within the company. Despite the obvious countrymen relationship with potential main eventer with William Regal, neither man is over enough to be pushed hard, and they should barely be considered threats for the Tag Titles. With the Obvious Booking Guide, expect Batista to bulldoze over both of them on Saturday Night next week, en route to destroying William Regal for the Midwest Championship at Summer Glory. | Swiggy has confirmed my speculation of the Chavis/Mahoney stuff. I'm pretty sure he mght be jerking my chain, but I pretty much pulled that tidbit out of my ass to fill up space. :D |
