Title: Anyone familiar with TMNT Comics?
Scrooge McSuck - May 1, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
I'm thinking about ordering some issues off of ninjaturtles.com (so sue me, I'm a TMNT fanboy), but I'm not sure where to go. Is there a marked difference in quality from the original black and white issues and the Mirage comics, and does Mirage basically retell the first few issues of the original comics with there's?
If anyone can make sense of that rambling nonsense, please accept an imaginary $10 bill. :P
Big F'N Swigg - May 1, 2006 01:33 AM (GMT)
The originals are definitely the best.
Dreamwave took over before the company folded, and it was all about the current TV show. In other words, IT SUCKED

After checking through the NinjaTurtles website, you sound more accurate than I expected. I was going to go the cheap route and buy like 10 comics from the 1993-1997 color comic series, but then I noticed they don't re-tell the story of their origins like in the first comic, so I'll go with quality over quantity.
What I'll probably order...
LEONARDO #1 (First Printing)
TMNT #1 (Reprint May 2005)
TMNT: The Haunted Pizza
Gizmo & Fugitoid #1
The Leonardo comic splits a story arc before Issue #10, but since I don't have $7 per comic to throw away on the issues following, and I want the first issue no matter what generation print it is, I'll just stick with the Part I story until I feel like buying more.
And to explain the last 2, both are fairly cheap ($2 or less) and come from the same page, so it saves me time.

Not sure about the Mirage ones, but I have a bunch of the "Archie Series" TMNT comics.
Scrooge McSuck - May 1, 2006 02:11 AM (GMT)
I was thinking about getting a bunch of those since they were all like $3 or less, but I wanted to get the first issue more than anything else.
Since you mentioned them, how are they?
S.T. Strickler - May 1, 2006 02:20 AM (GMT)
They're pretty decent. The first 3 (or 4) comics are based on the cartoons "Return of the Shredder" and "The Incredible Shrinking Turtles". Then after that, it pretty much strays from the cartoon series into weird stories, including Krang trying to find a new body. Artwork of the turtles is pretty goofy too.

Glad to see that my TMNT Classics Digest they released wasn't a fluke with the cheesy art-work. :P
I'll probably put those down on my list for a potential purchase, but if I buy again, my next one will be for issues #10-12 of the original series, since at $7 each, I'm not the kind of person that'll throw much more than $20-25 out on comics.
(hides a bunch of Graphic Novels I bought last week for $40)

I remember for my birthday years ago (I think I might've been 8), me and my mom found a bunch of them Archie Series TMNT comics at a K.B. Toy Store for super discount price.
If you go to the ninjaturtles.com site, and check out the comics section, you'll get a better understanding of the Archie Series. Now oddly enough, I never saw the "Heroes in a Half-Shell" comic books, but I do have something similar to that. It's a 5-part comic book w/cassette tape that has the same story on it.

K.B. Toys ruled for that. I remember getting a bunch of Hasbro figures super cheap. I think it was the series with the Head Shrinkers, Jannetty, HBK, Giant Gonzalez, Razor Ramon, ans Bushwackers. All for $2.50 each, when the usua price was $6 in Toys R Us.
S.T. Strickler - May 1, 2006 02:51 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I got most of my WWF figures there. I remember on my 9th birthday, I got Hulk Hogan, the Bushwhackers, The Rockers (I think), and a few others that escape me.. Found one of them "bend-'ems" of Kane at a yard sale a few years ago.

I had a few of the original 1984 series. The first 12 are pretty decent and set up some of the concepts of the entire franchise.
I might have a few extras of the Archie series (1990-1992) laying around. If you're serious about getting some of those, I'll get you a list of what I have, readily available. I used to give them away for Halloween or sell em' at garage sales, cheap.

ME WANTIE!
Where the hell did I get that terrible phrase from?
eStragand - May 1, 2006 08:03 PM (GMT)
I'll have to get back to ya', next week. The only things I have readily available, here at the complex, are a few issues of "Jughead", "ALF, "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons", "James Bond, Jr", "Wolverine", "Betty's Diary" and umm... "Monster in my Pocket" (probably THE most Freudian title ever).
Mad Dog - May 1, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
Is that Monster in my Pocket book a graphic novel? If so I have the same one too.
Scrooge McSuck - May 1, 2006 09:46 PM (GMT)
ALF! DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS! AND OTHER STUFF!
(packs bags to move into the ES Complex)

I had a feeling you'd do that with or without the comics
Scrooge McSuck - May 1, 2006 10:03 PM (GMT)
I am not, I repeat I am not a moocher.
eStragand - May 1, 2006 10:14 PM (GMT)
I think "Monster in my Pocket" was a toy line. The comics were published by Harvey in the early 90's.

Tell that to your parents
Scrooge McSuck - May 1, 2006 10:16 PM (GMT)
Feh... and how much for some of those other cr---random comics hanging around the Complex of Doom? :)
eStragand - May 2, 2006 05:51 AM (GMT)
The only ones I'd feel comfortable selling would be the Wolvie comics. I've set those aside for, like, 15 years now...so I'd like to get at least a buck a piece. I have no idea what the D&D comics are suposed to be. They're not based off of the old cartoon. Some weird..... hell, I never read 'em or understood the concept.
The others you can have if you want 'em. Just do something cool for me sometime (NOT a rimjob or reacharound).
Scrooge McSuck - May 2, 2006 05:55 AM (GMT)
Me Want! Me Want! Me Want! Me Want! Me Want! And Wolverine, eh? :)
(gets rusty dagger) Who do you want me to kill? Please say Wrestlevessel. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!

Oh BTW...I also have some extra RICKEY HENDERSON cards in the complex!
Should you want some of those, too...
Scrooge McSuck - May 2, 2006 11:42 PM (GMT)
I have more than enough Rickey Henderson, thank you very much. :P

I WANT THEM
Scrooge McSuck - May 3, 2006 12:00 AM (GMT)
You would! (plunks out cash) Sell me comics now, Donkey Boy, or I'll unleash the hell that is WV on you.
Scrooge McSuck - February 8, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
BUMP!
Only took me 9 months, but I ordered a copy of the 1st issue and some other random crap off ninjaturtles.com.
I still no mooch!
