The Decline of Western Civilization is about the West Coast punk scene, right? Black Flag, the Dead Kennedy's and whatnot?

Yeah, that's the one. Part 2 is "The Metal Years". Not as good, but memorable for the wasted performance of the guy from WASP, floating in his pool. If you're not too familiar with 80's metal, it's worth a look. Lot of unintentional comedy in there.

A similar project was done in 2002 with the movie "Hype!", about the Seattle grunge scene of the early 90's. It skipped over some important elements, but overall was a good watch.

That's right LFV. It's pretty good stuff too. Same thing with Part 2. It has to do with the 80's metal scene like E said, but it's pretty fuckin funny watching a bunch of wasted 80's metal guys be total idiots.

Plus, two hip hop movies that shouldn't be missed....

Wild Style
Style Wars (although this may be hard to find, I could burn you a copy if you really want one..............it was a documentary on PBS in the VERY early 80's. It's mainly about the graffitti artists in early hip hop, but it's VERY important to the early hip hop movement)

"why not just make it go to 10?"

"Because it goes to 11"

So many quotable lines from that movie.

eStragand - April 11, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)
If you can, check out the "special edition" of Spinal Tap. Includes an extra 40+ minutes of outtakes. There's a funny radio call-in segment where the drummer reveals some completely unexpected information. Also, the "in-store autograph appearance" is expanded and has a hilarious gag.

Some scenes suck, though-- one exists just to give Dana Carvey more screen time.

Regardless of what you may think of Metallica (I'm a huge fan of all their stuff but I didn't get onboard until after The Black Album), "Some Kind Of Monster" is a good movie, I think.

Do they have to be documentaries? If not, I really like "School Of Rock".
