Tag Team Match
Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio vs. The Dudley Boyz

This match is from Judgment Day 2004, and it's the opening match of the pay per view. The Dudleyz had just rejoined Paul Heyman as their manager, and their opponents, I believe, wouldn't join up with Heyman. RVD in particular. I hope I am correct there, I completely forgot about this match. The match started out with D-Von and RVD. D-Von slams RVD in both of the turnbuckle pads and tags in Bubba who begins bad mouthing him. Irish whip to RVD, back flip, into a spinning dropkick reversal. RVD gets Bubba in the corner. Monkey flip! Backdrop to D-Von! Superkick to Bubba! Backdrop to D-Von over the top rope. RVD off the ropes... SUICIDE PLANCHA TO BUBBA ON THE OUTSIDE! Rey's on the top! HUGE crossbody block from the top rope to the Dudleyz on the floor. RVD poses, and taunts. Crowd chants along. Exciting thus far, 2 minutes into the match. RVD and D-Von with a staredown before D-Von gets the quick upper hand, pounding away. RVD comes back, with a HUGE rolling heel kick. Bubba grabs Van Dam by the hair, and holds him for D-Von. D-Von for a clothesline! He hits Bubba and knocks him off the apron. RVD shoots off the ropes, but Bubba pulls down the top rope, and RVD spills to the floor. Bubba slams his head on the announcers table. Tazz is hilarious. "These Dudleyz are like, 55 thousand time tag team champions". D-Von tags in Bubba again. Bubba with a HUGE 300 plus pound elbow drop to RVD. Bubba slams RVD into the corner. Bubba goes t slam him again, RVD reverses and gets a spin kick and a leg scissors. RVD tags in Rey. Rey with a seated senton to Bubba. A cross body to Bubba, and the pin. 2 count only. Rey with a HUGE tilt a whirl headscissors. He gets him, 619 coming! D-Von drops Rey and pulls him out. Rey moves him and kicks him, Rey goes for another seated senton, but Bubba catches him and tosses him into the top rope neck first. Bubba tags in D-Von. D-Von slams Rey. Flying leg drop from D-Von, and it gets only a two count. He locks in a rear naked choke to Rey, and we come to our first real rest period of the match. Rey tries to fight out of it, and he does. Rey off the ropes, but D-Von gets a back elbow. 2 count only. D-Von tags in Bubba Ray, and Ray slaps Rey in the head and puts on the bad mouth as the crowd boos. Cole states the obvious, "These fans don't like that". Bubba gets a vertical suplex to Rey and continues the bad mouth. Bubba tags in D-Von, more frequent tags. D-Von steps on Rey's "injured throat", and pushes him in the corner. HUGE right hand to Rey, as the ref reprimands him for the closed fist. Rey off the rope, Rey hits a HUGE bulldog to D-Von, and can he get the tag to RVD?! D-Von and Rey are crawling to their corners. Rey gets it! RVD is in, but the ref didn't see the tag! The Dudleyz double team Rey, and Bubba comes in illegally. Bubba whips Rey off the rope, and a HUGE Double A Spinebuster to Rey which gets only a two count. The Dudleyz, well Bubba in particular had atrocious ring attire around this time. Bubba slaps the HELL out of Rey's chest. Rey hooks Bubba's head, and Rey gets some sort of inverted RKO while hooked in the tree of woe. Hilarious as Bubba called Rey a pinata. Rey with a moonsault off the top rope to Bubba! ONE! TWO count only! RVD gets the tag! Back elbow to D-Von! HUGE cresent kick to the chin. Spin kick toe the incoming Bubba! Clothesline to D-Von. ROLLING THUNDER! He's got the cover, and Bubba breaks the count. Rey in the ring! Getting all over Bubba, but GOOD LORD! HUGE back body drop to Rey over the top rope. Bubba slams RVD. D-Von to the top. WASSUP COMIN! REY PULLS D-VON DOWN! RVD whips Bubba in the corner! REY WITH THE BRONCO BUSTER! CATAPULT TO D-VON! HUGE LEG SCISSORS BY REY! BUBBA BREAKS THE COUNT! Damn that was cool. The Dudleyz slam them both. 3D COMING! REVERSED! DOUBLE 619 TO THE DUDLEYZ! FIVE STAR FROGSPLASH! 1...2...3!!!!!! RVD gets the pin in 15:18. Damn good match, and a great way to start off a PPV.

The Bottom Line: I am not a fan of The Dudleyz, but they held their own against Mysterio and RVD. Had RVD and Mysterio stuck together for longer than they did, they could have been a really great makeshift tag team. I had forgotten about this match, but I am glad I watched it. Damn good right there, and definately worth rewatching. ***1/4

Latino Street Fight
United States Championship
Eddie Guerrero © vs. John Cena

Pre match, John Cena cuts an awesome little freestyles on Eddie. Eddie pulls up in his car with the music bumping, and the match is on. Eddie slams Cena's face into the car. Eddie is ALL over Cena. Eddie is taking it to Cena with closed fists. Cena counters one and throws Eddie on a hood. He slams Eddie's face into a car. Eddie slams Cena into a hood. Eddie picks up Cena and hits him with a delayed vertical suplex on the hood of a car. Cena slides down the hood, and Eddie is hurt as well. Cena opens the trunk of one of the cars, and rthere is a lawnmower in it?! He turns it on and he's gonna run down Eddie. Eddie kicks it awau and slams Cena into the hood. Eddie hits Cena in the face, and kicks him. Cena pushes him hard on to the hood of one and picks up a shovel. Cena swings it, but Eddie ducks and Cena hits the car. Cena backs up and goes for a cklothesline, and Eddie hits Cena with a flapjack on to the car. Eddie swings the shovel, but Cena moves and Eddie breaks a light. Cena falls down and Eddie slams a door in his face. Eddie chokes Cena out with the seatbelt and begins punching the hell out of Cena's face. Eddie takes Cena and slams him into the hood of a car. He opens the trunk of an old man car, and Cena throws Eddie in it. Cena slams his fists on the trunk, but Eddie pushes it open and it goes face first in Cena's face. Cena backs up and Eddie goes for a right hand, but Cena ducks it and throws Eddie through the windshield. Cena goes for the first pinfall, but only gets a two count. Cena takes Eddie's face and slams a door on it which gets a two count. Rest period and then Eddei takes Cena, but Cena reverses and slams Eddie's head through the window. Damn that looked hard. Briscos Brother Body shop comes in handy! Cena with the pin and it gets a two. Eddie gets up and rams Cena into the car, but Cena crawls away. Cena gets in the car and tries to drive away, but Eddie gets in and they fight in the car. Eddie takes Cena and rams his head into the horn of the car. Cena tries to escape, but Eddie dives over the top of a car and attacks Cena. Eddie rears back and runs at Cena. BACKDROP ONTO A CAR!! Cena goes for the FU on a car, but Eddie reverses it and a HUGE hiptoss ont the hood of a car. Out of nowhere, CHAVO!! Chavo hits Cena with some sort of object. Eddie climbs on the top of an SUV! FROG SPLASH TO CENA! 1....2....3!!! Eddie retains the belt in 9:27! Damn, that was a pretty good match for one that didn't have many actually wrestling moves.

The Bottom Line: This was when Cena wasn't stale. I wasn't ever a huge fan of Cena, but he was watchable here. They were both at their best here, and did their best to entertain. Some of the spots were a little questionable like the lawnmower spot, but I was kept entertained. When it happened, I remember liking it, and it stands up good now. This could have been on pay per view in my opinion, but it worked. Good match. **3/4

#1 Contender’s Match
Triple H vs. Kurt Angle

The winner of this match would become the #1 contender to The Rock’s WWF Championship at No Mercy. The week before, Chris Benoit who was just entering a feud with Triple H headbutted Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, so prior to this match, when confronted by Benoit, Stephanie (who Triple H had just told to not join him at ringside fo this match) slapped the taste out of Benoit’s mouth. Best. Slap. Ever. Match starts out when Triple H taking it to Angle on the outside. Triple H throws Angle in the ring, but Angle slams him into the turnbuckle. Triple H has “injured” ribs, but he takes off the ace bandage around his midsection and begins choking him with it. He wraps it around his neck and hits him with a snapmare with it. He winds him up and throws him over the top rope as Angle gags. Triple H takes Angle on the outside, but Angle slaps him, and hits him with a belly to belly on the floor. Angle throws him in the ring, and hits a suplex, hooks the leg and gets a two count. Another suplex, and another two count. DAMN! Another suplex, but again, a two count. Angle cusses out Hebner, and speak of the devil. Stephanie comes down to ringside after direct orders to stay in the back. Angle stomps Triple H in the corner, and takes it to him harder. Huge right hand. He whips Triple H across the ring and goes for a clothesline, but H gets a boot up. HHH goes for the Pedigree, but Angle trips him up. Angle gets the cover, but only a two count. Angle hits a huge side suplex. He hook the leg, and again a two count, but barely. Angle with a set of right hands, but Triple H keeps telling him to bring it. Another, another, HUGE face buster by Triple H. He reversed and he’s getting to his feet. Triple H gets a right hand and pushes Kurt in the corner. NECKBREAKER! They’re both up, and a high knee to Kurt. Triple H with the pin, but a two count. Triple H picks up Kurt, and gives him a couple of closed fists to the face. Kurt gets up, but Triple H clotheslines him over the top rope to the floor. Triple H gets on the apron and hits him with a double axe handle. Uh oh, he’s pulling apart the announcers table. HHH throws him on the table, and what’s he gonna do? HUGE ELBOW DROP! Triple H dropped an elbow through the table off of the ringside barrier. HHH throws Angle back in the ring. Angle dives at Triple H, but gets Hebner instead. Hebner goes down for the 2451245123451361356th time in his career, and Triple H gets a HUGE superplex off the top rope. Benoit’s coming to the ring, and he has Stephanie by the hair. Triple H for the save! He nails Benoit and throws him into the steel ring steps. He stomps on Benoit, but Angle’s in the picture, and Angle throws Triple H into the steps which then hit Benoit. Triple collision! Angle has a chair, and HHH is in the ring. HHH gets up, but Stephanie takes the chair from Angle. Triple H spins Angle around, HHH is going for the pedigree. Benoit pulls Stephanie off the apron. Triple H drops Angle and goes to attack Benoit but Benoit hits him with the chair. Triple H stumbles backwards, and right into the Olympic Slam. Angle gets the pin, and the three count in 8:42! Angle celebrates on the top of the ramp, and Triple H is in Stephanie’s face. He rips her a new one, and is pissed. Stephanie is screaming that she wanted to help, but he gave her direct orders to stay in the back. He gives her the look of death and leaves her in the ring crying.

The Bottom Line: Angle and Triple H never have had a bad match, in my opinion. At least none I can think of right now. This match wasn’t different. It wasn’t a long match, but it wasn’t too short and they did as much as they could in the time given. It served it’s purpose as making Angle and Triple H look strong going into their respective feuds and in the end, I was still entertained. **1/2 for a decent TV contest. Thumbs up if you can find it online or on tape.

SamoaRowe - February 14, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
Triple H and Angle never really had a bad match, but they had a majorly disappointing one at Unforgiven 2000.

They had a better one at Royal Rumble 2001, though it was a little awkward since they were both heels. I remember cheering Angle on though.

Ladder Match
Dusty Rhodes vs. Brian Lawler

Okay, this was around a period of time when I hadn't been watching TNA as much as I originally had. I have no idea what the backstory for this actual match is, but I do know that it was the new age second generation guys vs. the old school. Brian Lawler made a challenge to Dusty and for a Ladder Match. Okay, so the belt that Ric Flair owned when he won the NWA Title is on the line here. Lawler jumps on the attack, but Rhodes knocks him down. Elbow to Lawler which takes him over the top rope. Why Flair's NWA Title is on the line is beyond me. Lawler takes Rhodes and rams his head to the table. Lawler leaves Rhodes down, and Lawler has the laddder. He hits Dusty right in the face with it. The crowd starts chanting "Jerry's Kid". He takes him again and face first slams him into the ladder. Don West is correct when he asks what the hell Rhodes is thinking accepting a Ladder Match challenge. Horrible booking right there, and Rhodes is busted open. Lawler is climbing the ladder, and Rhodes it trying to make it to his feet. Lawler jumps off the ladder with a dropkick to Rhodes. Rhodes is getting up slowly again, but I doubt he's trying to feign the slowness. He's gotta be pushing 350. Rhodes is in the ring, and he knocks Lawler off the top of the ladder. West says "unbelievable", I say weak. Rhodes with a bunch of weak right hands and then the Bionic Elbow which takes him down. Rhodes is digging under the ring, looking for a little blunder. And what the hell!? He's got a step ladder. A little baby step stool. He whacks Lawler in the chest and over the head with it. Oh lord, he's setting it up. Another elbow. He picks up the step stool and hits him again. He climbed to the third rung of the big ladder and hit a weak elbow drop. Dusty chants break out from the crowd, and Rhodes is going to climb the ladder, but Lawler gets a low blow. This is an atrocious match. Lawler is climbing the ladder, but Rhodes is up. Rhodes tries to grab Lawler, but Brian drops him with a bunch of right hands. Lawler turns around on the top of the ladder and goes for the Hip Hop Drop... I mean the Tennessee Jam, but Dusty rolls out of the way. Rhodes is up, and he's climbing the ladder. David Flair runs down and the little 130 pound turd takes down the 400 pound hick monster, Dusty Rhodes. For some reason, Flair is climbing the ladder, and he's gonna take the belt. But out of NOWHERE Nikita Koloff comes down and throws Flair off the ladder. Kolloff climbs the ladder, and he's got the belt. Dusty looks ready to fight his former enemy, but Kolloff ghands Dusty the title. Dusty takes it, and that gets him the win at 6:14 This has GOT to be a Ryusso finish. Kolloff and Rhodes hug, and Dusty is the faux NWA Champion. According to West, only three of those particualr belts exist.. Damn, I thought this was over. Erik Watts runs down and snatches the belt away from them and runs off with it.

The Bottom Line: I knew by clicking the link to this match on YouTube that it'd be an atrocious pile of shit, and I was correct. There wasn't anything worth mentioning in a positive light in this match. The fact that a faux NWA Title was on the line is bad. Dusty Rhodes wrestling is even worse, but it's not even a special attraction. It's a ladder match! DUD, and that's putting it nicely without digging into the negatives. Avoid this at ALL costs.

Cage Classic - February 19, 2006 11:31 PM (GMT)
Bret Hart vs. Ted DiBiase

Pretty unknown match here, but featured on Bret's DVD. Bret starts the match off with an attack quickly, taking it to Dibiase as Virgil quickly leaves the ring with the Million Dollar Title. Bret with right hands, and another. Off the ropes goes DiBiase, and a huge right to the sturum. Russian Legsweep! Pinfall from Bret, but it only gets a two. DiBiase goes for a shot, but Bret hits a reverse atomic drop. The cover! 1...2...Kickout. Dibiase rolls out of the ring to a chorus of boos. I believe that this is a young, Tim White officiating this contest. Bret pushes Ted into the ropes, but rolls out. Ted turns around into a inside cradle which gets a two. He rolls back out of the ring, and screams "SHIT!" twice. He's pissed. He hops on the apron and Bret pulls him in the hard way. He knocks Ted in the ropes, and he's tied up. Bret goes for a dropkick, but somehow, Dibiase breaks loose. He throws Bret out of the ring, and the ref begins the 10 count. Bret finds his way back in the ring, as Dibiase berates him verblly and stomps on his head. Vicious choke from Dibiase. He whips Bret in the ropes and a HUGE clothesline. A fist drop, and a cover. 2 count! He jumps up high and stomps on Bret's face, and goes to the top rope. Bret's up! ELBOW! DiBiase takes Bret down with the huge bionic elbow from the top rope. Another walking fist drop. That's a real fist drop, John Cena. He locks Bret, and a HUGE vertical suplex. He gets the cover, and a two count. Ted berates the ref, saying it was a three. He locks him again, but Bret reverses a Dibiase suplex attempt with a suplex of his own. They both get to their knees, and repeated blows to the face, and Dibiase rakes the eyes. He gets Bret and a side suplex and he floats over into the pin. 1....2...Kickout! He whips Bret into the turnbuckle, and Bret goes down. He goes for another cover, and gets another two count. He lifts up Bret, and whips him into the ropes, but Bret runs directly into him and locks in a small package. 1....2....Kickout. They're up. Another small package! 1....2... KICKOUT! Dibiase is up and throws him out of the ring. He joins Bret on the floor and slams him head first into the ring apron. He rolls him in, and a suplex. 1....2...Kickout! Ted locks Bret in a rear naked choke. Bret tries to fight out of it, but to no avail as Dibiase locks in all the pressure. Bret almost breaks loose, but gets choked again. Ted chokes him viciously, then goes back to the rear naked choke. Ted goes to pin Bret, but a kickout AGAIN. They both shoot off the ropes, and a double clothesline takes them both out. Ted goes to the top rope, but Bret tosses him off Ric Flair style. Exchange of right hands from both men, and Bret is getting the upper hand. Another! Bret! Ted! Bret! BRET! HUGE right hand takes Dibiase down. Bret loads him in the corner and whips him into the ropes. Huge right hand! Hart with the cover, but a two count. Bret lifts him up and hits the backbreaker. FIVE MOVES OF DOOM COMING! Off the top rope comes Bret, and the Elbow Drop! 1...2...Kickout! Bret whips DiBiase in the corner, and goes for a running knee, but Dibiase moves and Bret crashes knee first into the turnbuckle. Dibiase wrenches the knee, but Bret kicks him in the ass, and over the top rope he goes. Bret is up, and a HUGE plancha over top rope rope! The ref begins the 10 count as Bret and Dibiase fight on the outside, and this match is a double countout at 15:49! This was a damn good bout, full of old school wrestling. I love it. Post match, Bret goes after Virgil, but Dibiase tries to make the save, but gets knocked down for his efforts. Virgil hands Dibiase the Million Dollar Title, and they leave the ring as Bret soaks up the cheers.

The Bottom Line: This was a really great match. What made it even better was that even without the commentary, you can still get into the match. Another one of my favorite matches (James Gibson vs. Bryan Danielson at PWG's All Star Extravaganza) was like that. I can get excited with no commentary. DiBiase worked hard to make Bret look like a big star, and that was before Bret had even scraped midcard status. Bret sold like a champion, and Dibiase was at his best as he always seemed to be. Damn good match, and gets my nod at ***1/2.

Cage Classic - March 5, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
I decided to bring this back since I brought it back over on TCE.

Jamie Noble v. Bryan Danielson

This match taken from the January 18, 2003 episode of Velocity. This was an amazing contest for not even hitting the 10 minute mark. It was a great preview to the matches they'd eventually have two years later. The match started off quick with Danielson taking it to Noble with some wrestling, and then it got evened out with some suplexes from Noble, but Danielson kept on the impressive streak, kickout out of Noble's best. Random thought has me saying how awful Ernest Miller was on commentary during this match. The crowd was really into this match, cheering for all of the chain wrestling, and of course the lovely Nidia bouncing around outside the ring. Noble took control of the match at the 5 minute mark after a huge knee to the midsection, but not for long as Danielson had a burst of intensity including some japanese style kicks and a roaring elbow, but Noble countered a clothesline with a snap powerslam. Impressive German Suplex from Danielson almost one the match, but Noble rolled out of it. They made it to their feet, and Noble went for the Tiger Bomb. Danielson countered it, went for a Roaring Elbow, but Noble ducked it and nailed Danielson with a Spinning Neckbreaker for the win at 6:57. This was a damn good match, and as I said, for not even hitting the 10 minute mark, that's impressive. They hit all of their spots flawlessly, but then again, this is Jamie Noble and Bryan Danielson. It's almost impossible to find a bad match when these two are involved. This impressive match gets *** from me. They'd go on to do much better, obviously, but this was quite impressive.

From SummerSlam 2006

WWE Championship
Edge © (w/Lita) v John Cena

Edge's strategy from the get-go was to defeat Cena by countout, multiple times sending Cena to the floor, while Cena barely made it into the ring. Edge, surprisingly kept his dominance for much of the early going with Cena coming back in small spurts, including an unorthodox Fisherman's Buster, but nothing was enough to keep Edge down at this point. During an Edge executed Camel Clutch, the fans were split with a Let's Go Cena/Cena Sucks Chant. Mind you, this was in his hometown. Cena eventually came back, going old school and hitting Edge with The Throwback, a move he hasn't used since 2004. Lita threw a chair in the ring, but Edge threw it out remembering that he can lose the title via DQ and it was the opening Cena needed, hitting a flurry of shoulder blocks and a sidewalk slam. Cena got the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Edge reversed it into the Impaler, but Cena kicked out. Edge went up top, and Cena went for the FU up top, but Edge reversed it, and Cena countered that into a Victory Roll. Eventually, Edge went for the Spear, but Cena hit him with a drop toe hold and locked on the STFU. Lita tried to hand him the title belt to use, but Edge grabbed the bottom rope and Lita handed him some brass knucks. Cena didn't see them, and went for the FU on Edge and Lita, but Edge cracked him in the back of the head, and pinned him to retain the title. ***3/4 Excellent match here, and without a doubt the best in the Edge/Cena series of 2006. (I wrote this before their TLC Match took place, for the record.)

From Great American Bash 2005:

#1 Contenders Match: The Undertaker vs. Muhammad Hassan w/Daivari & Sympathizers

So this was brought about after Hassan and Daivari had masked sympathizers destroy and "cut the throat" of Undertaker. UPN refused to have Hassan on their network anymore and this match was brought about. I'll hold back comment until the end of the match. Before the match starts, Hassan gets on the mic. He says that he will not lose and will become the #1 Contender and move on to Summerslam and become the first Arab American World Champion in WWE history. The Iron Sheik says hello.

Match begins with Taker looking to strike Hassan, but the rookie jukes and jives around the ring dodging the blows. The best pure striker in the WWE! Hassan goes to school on Taker, punching and kicking before Taker grabs him by the throat and throws him in the corner and unleashes fury. Taker whips him into the ropes, boot by Hassan. However, Taker returns the favor. A pinfall gets a two count. Taker wrenches the arm and drops and elbow across the shoulder followed by a little OLD SCHOOL~! Hassan is up and Taker hits an STO. He floats over for the pin but only gets a two. Daivari barks out orders in Farsi on the outside. Taker with a right hand with AUTHORITY! Taker goes for a running big boot in the corner, but Taker runs straight over the top. The sympathizers put the boots to the Deadman and then Hassan goes for the attack, slamming Taker head first into the steel steps. Hassan rolls Taker into the ring and distracts the ref while a sympathizer chokes Taker. Hassan grabs Taker and hits an ugly DDT. The crowd is dead as Hassan makes the cover, but only gets two. Headlock by Hassan, but Taker backs him into the ropes. USA chant as Taker reverse an irish whip. Hassan kicks him in the face, Taker no sells. Huge right hand to Hassan and he goes down, twice. Taker heads to the floor where he is choked with "razor wire" again by the sympathizer as Daivari distracts the referee. He's rolled back into the ring where Hassan stands over Taker's body and praises Allah. He locks on the Camel Clutch, sans the awesome throat slit taunt. Taker no sells attempted murder and raises Hassan up in the air and then drops him backwards in a modified electric chair. Clothesline from Taker. Another! Big boot to a running in sympathizer. Hassan whiped into the ropes, Snake eyes followed by a clothesline. Sympathizers all run into the ring and get murdered by Taker. He pins Hassan, but only a two count. Taker whips Hassan into the ropes, goes for the Tombstone. Hassan reverse, Taker ducks a clothesline. Goozle, chokeslam, done! **

Taker wins the match but afterwards, the sympathizers come in and put the boots to Taker again. However, he no sells as 6 on 1 attack and destroys them all, plus Daivari. Meanwhile, Hassan crawls up the ramp. Taker sees this and follows him up top. Chokeslam on the ramp, and then he removes a piece of the staging. He then follows that up by giving him the Last Ride through the staging area leaving the character of Muhammad Hassan dead. We would never see him on WWE programming again. Because of WWE's retarded Hollywood writers pissing off UPN on the day of an actual bombing, an amazing character was put to rest. WWE has since blamed it all on Mark Copani (the man behind the character), claiming he wasn't good enough to carry the ball. Way to not accept blame, WWE! The match was crap, but the way they killed him off was awesome. Taker thus killed two men in a 365 day period and still is allowed to walk the streets. Logic, ftw!

From TNA Unbreakable 2005:

Triple Threat Match for the TNA X-Division Championship:
Christopher Daniels © vs. AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe.

Daniels talks trash to Joe and AJ to start and they attack him. Joe and AJ chop him down repeatedly and Daniels then gets kicked by Joe with authority. Styles tells Joe that he can do it better and kicks Daniels. Thus, they rip off Daniels/Ki/Danielson from the first ROH main event. Daniels gets up and yells "STOP KICKING ME" and gets kicked back down. AJ with the wheelbarrel pin twice but fails. School boy, another kick out. Joe locks on a double arm keylock, but Daniels breaks it up. Daniels nails Joe with an elbow and goes to work on AJ. Irish whip, heel kick to follow. Joe chops Daniels repeatedly then kicks him out of the ring. Joe with the elbows to AJ then a kick to the mid section. Joe off the ropes, Daniels trips him and delivers blows to both AJ and Joe then covers AJ. 2 count only as Joe breaks it up. Joe chops Daniels again. Joe chops AJ now then whips him into the corner. Daniels nails Joe a few times but Joe whips him into AJ in the corner. Daniels then gets dropped with the Bossman Slam by Joe. AJ with the head scissors takedown. AJ gets up and kicks Joe in the face twice. Joe to his feet and AJ hits a Stinger Splash in the corner on Daniels. He goes for it on Joe, but gets suplexed for his troubles. Joe washes AJ's face with his boot and Daniels POUNCES him out of the ring upon a second attempt. Best Moonsault Ever to the outside from Daniels on to Joe! The first TNA chant of the match is now. AJ with a springboard shooting star press onto Joe and Daniels out of nowhere! Second TNA chant merged into a Holy shit chant. That was awesome. AJ lets out a primal scream. He is feeling it. He rolls Joe in the ring, but only gets a two count on his pin. AJ with a dropsault on target. 2 count again. New paragraph time.

AJ with the forearm shots but Daniels is back in and chops AJ. Irish whip into the corner. Monkey flip to AJ but Joe catches him and AJ reverse that into a hurricanrana. Fuck that was unbelievable. Quick rollup on AJ by Daniels, he kicks out then gets thrown out of the ring. Daniels with a running knee to the face of Joe. He slaps Joe thrice and Joe fires off with KENTA-esque strikes followed by a clothesline attempt. Daniels reverse, pinfall attempt, but Joe locks on the Kokina Clutch. AJ OUT OF NOWHERE WITH THE SPIRAL TAP TO BREAK THE COUNT!!! Holy fuck! AJ pins Joe! 1...2...Kickout! Fuck. AJ pins Daniels. Same result. He's pissed now like Lex Luger at this point but gets tossed out of the ring by Daniels. STO from Daniels to Joe. Daniels goes for the BME again, but AJ blocks it. Tree of Woe followed by kicks. Joe runs and nails both AJ and Styles. Face wash to Daniels upside down in the corner. Daniels is dead. Right hands to AJ and an Atomic Drop and a running big boot followed a Senton on AJ all in a matter of 4 seconds. Styles kicks out of a pinfall though. Daniels is up, DEATH VALLEY DRIVER ON JOE!! He takes too long to capitalize though and Joe kicks out of a pinfall.

12 minute mark rolls by as AJ goes for a suplex on Daniels, but it's reversed. Daniels and Styles keep countering high risk maneuvers on the outside, but Joe gets up and hits a rolling barrel dive over the top rope onto Daniels and Styles and all three men are out cold. This match kicks a fat person's ass. Back in the ring, Joe goes for the Muscle Buster, but it's blocked by an eyerake. Daniels and Styles fight up top and then Joe comes up and backdrops them both off the top rope. Another TNA chant from the people in attendance. Joe nails AJ with a right, but AJ fights back. Joe with a German Suplex on AJ. He grabs him, sets him up, Joe nails AJ with the Muscle Buster in the middle of the ring. He calls for the Kokina Clutch, but Daniels has the X title. Joe saw him coming and snapped him down with a powerslam. Daniels gets up as Joe argues with the ref and hits a running Enziguri. Joe is out. Daniels and AJ exchange blows and Styles goes off the ropes, but Daniels hits a spinning sidewalk slam into a seated powerbomb. Daniels with a standing Sambo Suplex on AJ. Daniels hits the Best Moonsault Ever on Styles, but Joe breaks it up and kicks Daniels in the face repeatedly for good measure. Jaw breaker by Daniels though and then the Roll of the Dice by Daniels on Joe which sends Joe out of the ring. AJ out of nowhere and hits the springboard reverse DDT, but Daniels kicks out.

Tenay asks who will survive and Mean Gene asks for copyright payments. AJ on the top, but a slap from Daniels. Daniels goes for a superplex and he nails it perfectly. Joe crawls in and pins Daniels and AJ but gets a two count twice. He grabs Daniels and hits a powerbomb, but Daniels kicks out so Joe locks on a picture perfect STF. Daniels fights it, but gets the ropes. Joe headbutts Daniels and chops him down then goes to AJ and hits forearm shots, but AJ nails him with the Pele Kick and puts him in the Torture Rack and slams him down, but Joe kicks out. Daniels is up and bodyslams AJ on top of Joe. He grabs AJ and goes for a suplex. It's reverse, AJ hits the Styles Clash! He rolls through and Joe breaks up the count at 2.99999999! Fuck that was close. Joe launches AJ from the ring and goes to work on Daniels. Joe goes for a Spear, but Daniels ducks and he flies out of the ring. AJ back in the ring, Daniels slaps him but AJ fights back. Repeated shots from both men, but a thumb to the eye from Daniels. Daniels goes for the Angels Wings, but AJ reverses it into a Northern Lights pin and wins the match at 22:50 out of nowhere! ****3/4

Winner and New X-Division Champion: AJ Styles

Holy fuck, that match was absolutely amazing. I hadn't seen it since it happened and it definately remains a beautiful match. Some people called this a spotfest, and while that may be true, nobody can hate on a spotfest. Remember, people call TLC a ***** spotfest, so it's all good. This was exciting, breathtaking and I couldn't remember who won the match so it made it interesting for me still. I almost gave it the whole shebang, but despite this being awesome, it was missing... something so I knocked off 1/4*. Still, worth going out of your way to see. But I'll save you the time of searching.

Here's the match for your viewing pleasure!

Ladder Match for the Undisputed WWF Championship: The Undertaker © vs. Jeff Hardy

Match starts as Hardy dropkicks the ladder in the face of Taker and cross body over the top to knock Taker down. Chairshot out of nowhere and Hardy throws the Ladder at Taker but Taker clotheslines Hardy. Taker slams Hardy's face into the ringside barrier. Taker loads up Hardy on his shoulder and goes to launch him into the ladder, but Hardy slides off and shoves Taker instead. He sets the ladder on Taker's body and then leg drops it off the steps. Moments later, Taker is up and kicks the ladder into Hardy twice. Taker grabs the ladder and hits Hardy in the face, knocking him off the ring apron on to the announcers table. Taker sets up the ladder and begins climbing, but notices Hardy on the ground prone. He climbs down, sadistic, wanting to dish out more punishment. He takes Hardy and drops him ribs first on the announcers table. The beating continues outside of the ring for a while, Hardy getting in absolutely no offense. Back in the ring, Taker continues the beating, pounding Hardy into oblivion. Hardy fights back, finally, punching Taker about his body with everything he's got, but one shot from Taker sends Hardy back to the mat. Leg drop from Taker onto the ring apron. "Vintage Undertaker". Taker botches a clothesline and sends himself into a ladder, but no sells it. Hardy out of nowhere with the whisper in the wind though! Moments later though, Hardy is launched from the ring to the floor by Taker who then gets kicked in the nuts. Hardy springboards from the ring to the floor off the ladder over the top rope on to Taker. Finally, Hardy has a chance. Hardy grabs a bigger ladder and sets it up to grab the title, but Taker slides in and clubs Hardy in the back followed by an attempted Last Ride. Hardy reverses it into a hurricanrana sending Taker to the floor. Hardy climbs the ladder and touches the title with his fingers. Taker slides back in though and nails Hardy with a steel chair. On the mat, Hardy is set up for the Last Ride, but Hardy grabs the chair mid move and nails Taker in the head with the chair. He gets to his feet and hits Taker a second time. The fans are absolutely nuts. JR warns Hardy to make himself famous and he is inches away from the title, but Taker is up again with two chairshots. Hardy doesn't fall though, and Taker climbs up the other side. Hardy continues trying to climb, but Taker grabs Hardy and chokeslams him off the top of the ladder. Taker retrieves the title to win the match and retain his gold. ***1/2

Winner and still Undisputed WWF Champion: The Undertaker

Post match, Taker goes to leave, but Hardy pulls himself up to his feet. Taker goes back in the ring and hits him with the Last Ride. Taker gets on the bike and rides up the ramp, but Hardy gets on the mic and warns Taker that he isn't broken and he's still standing. Taker is pissednaw like Lex Luger and goes back down for the attack, but instead of kicking his ass, Taker is amazed and pats Hardy in the back and raises his hand in a sign of respect.

Final Thoughts: This match was the beginning of Taker's return to the face ranks and escaping from the heel side. The match, while still good, is not as good as when I first watched it in 2002. It's still good, but at the time, I thought this match was the cat's pajamas. It just doesn't hold up as well as I figured it would. Still, excellent storytelling and an awesome piece of work from both men.

From Backlash 2001:

WWF Hardcore Championship: Rhino © vs. Raven

Rhino tries for a Gore to start and Raven drop toe hold him on a stop sign. 2 count fails for the man from the Bowery. Raven nails Rhino with a trash can and another pinfall fails. Rhino with a shoulder block in the corner and goes on the attack, slamming a trash can over Raven's head. Rhino nails a boot into Raven's face through the trash can knocking him out of the ring. Rhino takes the ring steps and sets them up in front of the announcers table. Rhino slams Raven face first on the steps and sets up a folding chair and forces Raven to sit. Rhino runs up the steps but Raven moved and Rhino slammed into the chair. Raven attempts it and hits a clothesline, but a pinfall fails. Back in the ring, Raven nails some right hands sending Rhino back out of the ring. Some stalling outside the ring as Rhino nails Raven with a trash can lid. Tony Schiavone says that it's only made out of foil! Multiple shots to the head of Raven with a "KEEP OUT" sign is not enough to keep him down. Rhino throws Raven (and a shopping cart) in the ring. Rhino continues to pwn Raven until Raven hits another drop toe hold, this time into a shopping cart. They both slowly get up and Raven cleans Rhino's clock with a handicap sign. Even harder shot with another sign. Raven with the clothesline/bulldog combo, but only a two count on pin attempt. Rhino picks up the shopping cart and holds it over his head, but he is knocked down and the cart lands on his head. Raven gets the cart and goes to push it into Rhino in the corner successfully. Funny spot. Rhino comes back with a shot to the head with a sign. Trash can shots send Raven to the mat as Rhino waits for the Gore. Raven gets up and moves and Rhino Gores himself right into the shopping cart. Raven hits Rhino repeatedly with the kitchen sink and then rolls Rhino up, but STILL isn't enough to keep him down. Out of nowhere, Rhino gets the Gore though and retains the title at 8:11. ***3/4

Final Thoughts: This match was a lot of fucking fun, and at the time, was probably the best WWF Hardcore Title match ever. Of course Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam came along later that summer and just erased that thought from the minds of those who shared the same thought as me. Definately a must see match though.

WWF Championship Match - Triple H © with Shane McMahon & Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley vs. Taka Michinoku with Funaki & The APA
This was from an episode of Raw shortly before Backlash 2000. To start, The APA chases Shane McMahon away from the ring before the match starts, somewhat evening things up. Taka jumps on Triple H to start and hits him with a hurricanrana, a dropkick and a spinning heel kick followed by another dropkick to the face. He makes the cover, but Triple H kicks out, but just barely. Triple H is reeling. Taka off the ropes, but springboards into a dropkick. He nails Triple H in the corner repeatedly, and boots him in the face. He grabs him and Tornado DDT. Cover by Taka, but only a 2 could -- again, just barely. Taka chops Triple H, sends him off the ropes, but Triple H gets the knee to the face the clotheslines Taka over the top rope. He joins him on the floor and drops him chest first across the ring barrier. Multiple powerful chops to Taka and Trips sends Taka back into the ring where he decks him with a right hands. He goes for a clothesline, but instead hits a high knee, but Taka kicks out. Triple H stomps a mudhole in Taka and Hebner pulls Helmsley off of Taka. They exchange shoves and then Triple H threatens him. The distraction allows Taka to come back with multiple HUGE right hands, knocking Triple H to the mat. Trips nails him in the throat though and then gets sent from the ring again. Triple H slams Taka against the ring steps and sends him back into the ring. Hebner distracts Triple H and Taka dropkicks him into the APA who them promptly begin kicking Triple H's ass and Bradshaw nails the Clothesline From Hell. Fuanki dropkicks Triple H and Taka hits a moonsault, makes the cover and then ALMOST gets the three. Trips just BARELY kicks out. Taka mounts Trips in the corner. As he does, Vince and Shane come down to the ring as the APA threaten them. Taka knocks Triple H down again. Bull Buchanan and Bossman attack the APA at ringside and Taka goes for the Michinoku Driver, but Trips blocks it, powerbombs him as a reversal to the hurricanrana and then hits the Pedigree to retain the title. Post match, Hunter nails Funaki with a Pedigree for good measure before posing with the title as the McMahon-Helmsley faction proceed to stomp away at the APA outside the ring. ***
Winner at 5:53: Triple H

Thoughts: This match was so fucking fun and Triple H made you actually believe Taka was gonna win the title. All the elements involved in this match helped to create a very awesome moment. In just under 6 minutes, both men worked something this awesome. It would have been amazing to see what they could have done with an extra 10 minutes. Definately a must see happening.

The Rematch of the Decade - Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs. The Warrior
Yes, this is "the" match. The infamous Hogan/Warrior rematch and I have decided to review it for everyone. The match starts with Warrior knocking Hogan on his ass after minutes of stalling and procrastination. Schiavone talks about their ability. Yes, we'll see their ability all the way during this match. Hogan hammerlocks Warrior's arm, and then it's reversed as Hogan oversells. Off the ropes, shoulder block by the Warrior. Hogan stomps away at Warrior in the turnbuckle and pulls on his arm a bit, but really weakly. He drags him into the center of the ring, and kicks at Warrior. This lasts like 2 minutes before both men get off and cross across the ring. Hogan slams Warrior, but it's no sold and Warrior slams Hogan and then clotheslines Hogan over the top rope and he goes over as slow as molasses. Outside the ring, Warrior slams Hogan's head into the ring post. Hogan rolls into the ring, followed by Warrior, and then Hogan runs over Nick Patrick and then knee drops him for whatever reason. Suddenly he has the advantage. Hogan calls for help and The Giant runs down to the ring. He holds Warrior for Giant who goes for the big boot, but he decks Hogan instead. The two token black guys, Vincent and Stevie Ray get decked by Warrior, but the ref is out as he goes for a pin. Hogan is up, and back suplexes Warrior. This match is so boring. The ref is awake, and Warrior kicks out of a pin. The weight lifter belt is off, and he whips Warrior repeatedly before being reprimanded by the ref. Warrior goes into having a seisure on the mat. Bodyslam by Hogan and an elbow drop that missed. Again. Again. Two men overselling everything. Warrior goes for his Warrior Splash, but Hogan rolls out of the way. This match has ZERO psychology. Warrior hits Hogan in the face with a WEAK punch and it sends him to the mat. Warrior takes Hogan's belt and whips him repeatedly. Hogan rolls around on the mat and crawls to the corner where he attempts to light a fireball, but fails as it goes off in his face rather than Warrior's. By this point, the match is offcially dead as Warrior no sells everything, as does Hogan. More punches that are weak and oversold. Warrior off the top with a double axe handle. He goes back up to the top again, and hits another double axe handle. Hogan with a low blow and a WEAK ass clothesline followed by a leg drop. He goes for a second leg drop, but misses. Horace Hogan comes down as Warrior freaks out and comes alive. Clotheslines to follow. Bischoff distracts the ref, Horace nails Warrior and Hogan pins him to end this match at 14:09, thank fucking God. -*****
Winner at 14:09: Hollywood Hulk Hogan

Thoughts: This may just possibly be the worst match in the history of the business. The fact that this travesty was put on pay per view and actually hyped as a "dream rematch" is absolutely pathetic. Both men sucked in the ring, and both men showed ZERO psychology of any sort and their egos were in full effect, trying to one up each other by making each other look foolish. Boy did they succeed because both men looked like absolute shams of their former selves... and thats not saying much either.

Nice, I loved that HHH/Taka match when it aired live. I was an innocent little mark and actually thought Taka had a chance to take the belt.

And yes, that Hogan/Warrior match is abysmal. I don't think I rated it low enough myself.

From the Eddie Guerrero Smackdown Tribute:

Chris Benoit vs. Triple H
Trips and Benoit lock up mid ring and Benoit shoots him off the ropes. Hip toss to follow, and the Crossface is teased as Trips quickly exits the ring. Back in the ring, they lock up and shove one another into the corner. Triple H nails Benoit in the face and then shoots him off, but Benoit reverses it and backdrops him. Another Crossface tease and Hunter rolls out of the ring. An "Eddie" chant breaks out as Triple H stalls and then gets back into the ring. Collar and elbow tie up and Benoit brings HHH down to his knees. Trips shoots him off the ropes. Clothesline is ducked, and Sharpshooter attempt and again, Triple H leaves the ring. Benoit follows and chops the holy hell out of him before slamming him into the ring steps. They roll back in and Benoit goes for the 10 count in the corner and nails them all leaving Triple H to Flair Flop. Benoit shoots off the ropes and then throws him over the top before a commercial. As we return, Benoit is thrown hard into the turnbuckle -- twice. Pinfall, but Benoit kicks out. Hard shot to the back, leaving Benoit to yelp in pain. Benoit comes back with a huge forearm shot that knocks HHH down. Benoit with the chops, but Trips hits the spinebuster. Hunter pulls him up and locks on the abdominal stretch. Benoit tries to break free, but Triple H grabs the ropes for leverage. Again, Benoit tries to break free, but the ref sees Trips with the ropes and forces him to break. Benoit is up, and again with the chops. He shoots off the ropes, but Hunter catches him in a sleeper. Benoit shoots off Triple H, and then catches him in a sleeper. Triple H throws him off, Sharpshooter attempt. It's blocked. Triple H goes for the Pedigree, then it's blocked and a catapult into the corner by Benoit. 3 German suplexes to follow and The Game is out. Benoit goes up top for the Headbutt and nails it perfectly as Triple H has a seizure. He makes the cover, but no dice. Back in the corner and Benoit chops the holy hell out of Trips. However, Triple H goes for the Pedigree, but Benoit drops Triple H to the mat with the Crossface. Trips tries to fight but they recreate the finish from Wrestlemania 20 and roll over. However, Triple H gets rolled up mid move in a pin, and Benoit picks up the win at 11:14. Benoit breaks down post match as does Triple H. They face off, but shake hands and then hug in the middle of the ring. Benoit climbs to the top rope and forces an Eddie chant. Dean Malenko comes down and they hug in the middle of the ring to end the whole segment. Match was solid enough. ***1/2
Winner: Chris Benoit

King Booker (w/Queen Sharmell) vs. Triple H in a King of Kings Collision Match from SummerSlam 2007

Backstory: Booker, the self-proclaimed King of the Raw Nation for weeks had been running down Jerry Lawler and the injured Triple H. He even called Lawler "Jerome" which was the highlight of this feud. While Triple H couldn't be on television to hype the feud, Lawler played messenger role and announced that King Booker would collide with the returning Triple H at SummerSlam. The winner of this match would "earn the right" to call himself the true, one and only, King of Kings in the WWE.

Analysis: Triple H got a huge pop for his return. Booker and Trips only had one prior singles encounter on pay per view before this and that was at Wrestlemania XIX. Triple H came back in a lot better shape than when he got injured in January at New Years Revolution. About an obvious 20 pounds lighter and off the roids, a much quicker Trips took it to Booker in the early stages of the match. It was only when Sharmell got involved did the momentum shift in Booker's favor. Leg work on the surgically repaired quadricep of Triple H was seemingly Trips' demise. However, that leg work didn't last very long as Triple H eventually took control of the match. The crowd, as well as myself, seemed pretty dead for this and for good reason. This match was basically a very dull Monday Night Raw match. The finishing sequence was decent, I suppose. Triple H kicked out of the Bookend, and rolled out of the way of a Harlem Hangover and Booker countered the Pedigree twice only to fall to it in the end.

Successful return for The Game and the true King of Kings. This match however is not king, and is one of the more boring, slow, plodding matches I've seen in quite some time. No decent spots to speak of really, with the possible exception of the final 30 seconds, but even that is stretching it a bit. Mediocre, below average psychology and it's more than obvious that the only purpose this match served was to get Triple H back on TV. It worked, but the match leaves much to be desired. No matter though, because this wasn't the start of any main event feud for either man. Trips would get stuck feuding with Carlito and Umaga for the next few months and Booker would be suspended from WWE just a week after this match making this his final pay per view appearance for WWE as well as his final match of note (he'd face John Cena in a Non-Title Match the next night on Raw) and would ultimately be released from the company. So on the whole, this bad match doesn't really matter. They have both done much better together whether in singles or tag. 3/4*

Result: Triple H pins Booker T at 7:56 following the Pedigree

Cage Classic - February 1, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
WWE Championship: John Cena © vs. Randy Orton. Cena works a headlock to start and the crowd is hot on his case. Orton reverses it into a headlock of his own though and drops Cena with a shoulder block. Back to the headlock and it's wrestling 101 here. Cena goes for the STFU early on, but it's thwarted and control of the match goes to Orton. Huge European uppercut from Orton followed by a irish whip attempt. Cena blocks it and nails a bulldog Jericho style. Pin gets two. Clothesline by Orton to the back of the head. Pin gets two, this time for Orton. After a tussle outside the ring, Orton goes back to the headlock, trying to force Cena to pass out. Excellent psychology here considering the head injury gimmick Orton is using. Side suplex to break the hold from Cena. Cena goes for a splash on Orton in the corner but crashes and burns. Orton makes the cover and Cena kicks out. Boots to the skull of Cena and the crowd breaks out in a "Let's Go Cena/Cena Sucks" chant. Orton goes back to the headlock again. Orton with a sleeper and Cena goes for a side suplex, but Orton rolls through with the headlock take over. Cena makes it to his feet with Orton on his back and he drives him into the corner. Shoulder blocks follow as well as the Protobomb. Five knuckle shuffle. FU attempt, but Orton reverses into the inverted backbreaker. RKO attempt, Cena blocks but sails over the top rope with a crossbody attempt. Orton throws Cena into the steps. Huge spinning neckbreaker from Cena. He goes up top but Orton follows for the Superplex. Cena chucks him off and hits the fameasser for a nearfall. FU attempt but Orton guillotines him on the top rope. Orton goes for the punt, but Cena gets the STFU. Orton grabs the rope to break it and follows up with an RKO. Cena BARELY kicks out and the crowd is pissed. They finally make it to their feet and Cena gets the FU for the three count. To those who say Orton uses headlocks as a resthold, kiss my ass. Excellent psychology. That alone, in addition to the hot crowd, solid action and epic feel makes this an easy ****.
