Description: mostly older stuff

Real F'n Show - July 16, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
I'm making a CD and I'm trying to find some more. So far I've got:

Taxi - Harry Chapin
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot
Hurricane - Bob Dylan

That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Any others you can think of would help...

He Stopped Loving Her Today-George Jones
Mercy Seat-Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Kneeling Drunkard's Plea-Various

Seriously, his whole career is story songs.

ANd so you know, most of the songs I listed, he covers on a box set

Hey DK, what about La di da di by Doug E Fresh and MC Ricky D. That was some calssic stuff right there. Well, basically anything by Ricky D AKA Slic Ric is a story song.

La di da di, is a classic. I would agree that any think by Slick Rick is usually a story. I always liked Love's gonna getcha by BDP though. It's a song that may have more truth to it in today's society than it would have when it came out.......

For those who don't know BDP is where KRS-One came from..........

That's right, Boogie Down Productions suckas....

Heck...would "the Ballad of Davey Crockett" qualify?

Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time" is awesome. Guy works at an auto factory and steals pieces inside his lunchbox. Takes him 10 years or so to build his dream car.

(start rolling your eyes now)
Rush- "Red Barchetta"
First song I ever understood. At age eight, I remember listening to it, verifying the lyrics and thinking "cool! A song about a sci-fi car chase!" Guy visits his uncle, fires up an old hot rod and gets chased by police hovercrafts.

2112 (the entire song, or "first side of the album") is a big story as well. But I hesitate on recommending any Ayn Rand inspired stuff to people. Plus, it's about 8 songs-in-one.

Okay, I got the Drive By Truckers song title wrong, it's "The Deeper In." Sorry

Rocky Raccoon--The Beatles

I've only ever heard Nirvana's version of it, but "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?". Say what you will about Kurt or Nirvana, but when his voice cracks at the end of that song... it's powerful.

Agreed, although the Leadbelly version is better. I recently dug out Nirvana's Unplugged disc though (after the Unplugged thread) and that was a good call.

I've always enjoyed "End of the Road" by Murder By Death. Great story in that song.

And while not a one certain song, I've been a big fan of the whole Amory Wars that Coheed and Cambria has put forth.

Ironic, as the Nirvana Unplugged is what started the Unplugged thread

You mean, as in N:U getting released on DVD finally?

(Now, I want a DVD with all their videos and their four songs from SNL and I"ll feel complete).

Big F'N Swigg - December 11, 2007 02:27 PM (GMT)
It was on MTV2 the other day, and I DVR'ed it and watched with much glee. I'm definitely going to get the DVD. I've been waiting for that to come out on DVD for YEARS

The Last Free Voice - December 11, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
For the record, Coheed and Cambria are AWFUL.

Funniest "Story Song" is by far the Weird Al Show Theme off of Running With Scissors.
