No,

He was a mid-card nobody for the majority of his career. His ringwork aside from his selling is very spotty. He's had some great matches but he lacks consistency. He had no drawing power for almost his entire career. 99 and 00 were the only years where he showed any signs of being able to carry a federation by himself. Also Foley is not well known for wrestling. He's known for writing two books about himself and for being thrown off the side of a cage. Foley is one of the most well liked wrestlers around but being well liked isn't a reason to vote someone into the HOF.

SamoaRowe - June 14, 2005 05:06 PM (GMT)
I have to definitly disagree. Foley is one of the best talkers in the entire history of wrestling, and had the ability to draw interest into just about any match he was involved in. He was also one of the best brawlers of his generation and had some unforgettable matches in Japan, ECW, WCW, and WWE. He showed an ability to have great matches with a wide range of opponents, ranging from Triple H, Sting, The Rock, Vader, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Terry Funk, Steve Austin, and others.

In 1999/2000 he was the third biggest star in wrestling, right behind Austin and Rock. He was completely selfless in putting over Triple H and making him a bonafide main eventer. Foley retired and came back last year for a handful of fantastic matches, and gave Randy Orton two of the best matches of his career and putting Orton over (at least until Orton turned face later that year).

Foley definitly deserves to be in.

Mad Dog - June 14, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
99 and 00 are the only years he showed any ability to be put on the top of a promotion and draw money. Up until mid-late 98 he wasn't that over. He was largely not cared about by the WWF fanbase until Hell In A Cell. He was never over in WCW despite what he tries to say. ECW was just an indy fed at that point.

whitemilesdavis - June 14, 2005 05:58 PM (GMT)
Gotta vote no. If it were an author hall of fame, he'd be in, but as far as wrestling goes....not so much.

dynamite kido - June 14, 2005 06:03 PM (GMT)
I had to vote "no" on this one......and it was hard for me to do considering how much I respect and even like Foley.

I would agree with MadDog that he's a bit inconsistant over the course of his career. In WCW, he was hardly booked in anything above mid card.......and when he was, it was as jobber fodder for Vader or Sting.

He was a huge star in 99 and 2000, but I can't chalk that up as a huge draw over the course of his career. He did show signs of being able to carry a company on his back in 2000 during his feud with Triple H, but he never was put in the position to do so.

I would also agree about MD's statements about ECW only being a indy fed at the point that Foley was there too. He was long gone by the time that they were ever on TNN or even on PPV.

The main arguement for him to actually be in would be his ability to pull emotion out of people with his unbelieveable promos. People actually cared about Foley which is something that deserves to be said and it's also safe to say that he could be the best promo (at least his dark ECW ones) in the history of the business.

I have had the honor to meet Foley a handful of times and he is really one of the coolest/nicest guys I've ever met in the industry...........but I honestly think that he has too many things working against him for me to say yes in this one though.

Scrooge McSuck - June 16, 2005 05:35 AM (GMT)
I'm on the middle of the fence here, but I voted yes. Small points...

1. He could have a great match in different style matches. For example, his match with Shawn Michaels at Mind Games was almost as straight of a Foley match could get, while he could do a complete 180 and have a great, brutal match.

2. He was a good talker. A very good talker. Outside of the stupid, silly stuff as Dude Love, he's probably one of my favorite interviews in wrestling, outside of Ric Flair and Roddy Piper.

3. He's a very selfless person. He's done jobs to everyone without complaints, and did multiple consecutive main event jobs to Triple H in hopes of getting him over as a Main Eventer.

Now, the negative has been mentioned a lot. He's never been much of a draw, he's only been on top for a very short period of time, and where he first became big was nothing more than a glorified independent promotion.

SamoaRowe - June 16, 2005 01:23 PM (GMT)
That glorified independent promotion now has one of the best selling wrestling dvds in history and a pay-per-view that achieved WrestleMania-like interest from wrestling fans.

I'd say ECW deserves more credit than that.

Horseshit. They were a company that had national TV converage for less than a year? Not to mention that they eventually went belly up finacially and the fact that they NEVER drew a crowd over 6,000 people...........EVER pretty much takes away from every point you just made. Not to mention that One Night Stand and the ECW DVD were promoted by the WWE and not ECW as an independent company.

whitemilesdavis - June 16, 2005 01:50 PM (GMT)
Not to mention that for the most part when Foley was in ECW it wasn't even a glorified indy, it was just an indy.

And the DVD and PPV are WWE products. No different than RAW or Smackdown.

SamoaRowe - June 16, 2005 06:47 PM (GMT)
The ECW products are currently destroying other WWE products that feature WWE material. Obviously people wouldn't be buying into it this much if they didn't miss ECW and think it was something special.

That's besides the point though. ECW in it's prime was always an indy fed at it's best, especially because they didn't tour the west coast at all.

whitemilesdavis - June 16, 2005 07:12 PM (GMT)
I don't think anyone's debating that ECW wasn't special. It certainly was. But it was just a special indy.

You got it.

Mad Dog - June 16, 2005 07:35 PM (GMT)
WCW even at it's lowest point drew more fans in an Australian tour than ECW probably did during half of 2000.

That should tell you everything you need to know.

prof_plague - June 17, 2005 04:44 PM (GMT)
Indy is indy. Almost no indy shows are going to be the top competitors.

Well, minus a big indy event getting better attendance than a WWE house show in Albuquerque.

prof_plague - June 19, 2005 07:47 AM (GMT)
So, I take it Mick will be an honorable mention.

Scrooge McSuck - June 19, 2005 07:58 AM (GMT)
There's still all day tomorrow.. but Foley isn't too big of a deal.

whitemilesdavis - June 20, 2005 12:14 PM (GMT)
Mickey didn't make it.
