The Daleks will return in the new series.

It's official! The Daleks are coming back after all. We've received the following press release:

Mal Young, BBC Controller of Continuing Drama Series and Tim Hancock, agent for the Terry Nation Estate announced today (Wednesday, August 4) that the Daleks will return in the new series of Doctor Who which is currently in production for transmission on BBC One in 2005.

Hancock says: "I am absolutely delighted that the Terry Nation Estate and the BBC have been able to reach agreement on terms for the use of the Daleks in the new Doctor Who series. We look forward to working closely with the production team in the forthcoming months."

Young added: "As well as coming face-to-face with a number of new and exciting monsters, its good news that the Doctor will also do battle with his arch enemy, the Daleks in a series which promises to surprise and entertain a new generation."

The above was taken from the official BBC website

The Daleks are like the bloody hokey-cokey:

In, out, in out....

Personally I think their omission was in the better interest - if you reintroduce the Daleks as pepperpots, they will draw ridicule, if you redesign you'll annoy the 'traditionalist' Who fans.

Damned if you do, Damned if you don't....

Dr Who would not be the same without the DALEKS though. I hope they are back to being the evilest race in the galaxy as they are supposed to be (Preferably without Davros).

I would expect providing the NEW Dr Who gets to a second season that the CYBERMEN will return as well!!!

Depends on the structure of the series. I think they are more likely to have one off shows, that people can pick up at leisure, rather than go for a four parter type which has the cheesy cliffhangers. Unless you know otherwise. :)

I'm sort of glad the Daleks will be returning. I can see Phillip's point though. ;)

I'm sure the designers will do their best to bring the daleks into the 21st century, without upsetting too many people.

I remember the cybermen, if only I could have appreciated lycra at that age

When I first heard that the Daleks were not returning I thought pretty much the same as Phil, it may be a good thing. But now I know they will be back, my mental state has deteriorated somewhat. I am becoming an overexcited fanboy again :D

I knew in my hearts that the Nation estate would give in and allow the Daleks use in the show. It would have been financial suicide not to. I mean, Dr Who could have (and was) continued without them, but we didn't hear of the daleks getting their own show did we? The weren't even booked for panto this year

So in conclusion, The Doctor could well have been a success without the overzealous pepperpots, but now that they have been confirmed, then success is guaranteed, oh and WAHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. :D :D

The Daleks and the Cybermen were my favourite villians when I used to watch the series, which was a pretty long time ago I'll admit.

As to the about turn, I have to admit that I'd rather see them IN it than NOT, but Phillip does make a very good point.

apparently they are not going to allow the Daleks to say "EXTERMINATE" - too old fashioned and not scarey according to reports.

Well they actually never did scare me but I know lots of people who they did scare.

Can you really bring them back and not let them say that?

If reports of their spiderfication are accurate then I'll find them scary enough as it is
