Title: Due South
Nick - August 3, 2004 01:46 PM (GMT)
Hello everyone,
I was reading the Beeb board the other day, and came across a Due South thread. The thread itself got nowhere so I thought I would resurrect it here.
I used to love this programme, it was the programme that I couldn't miss just so I could watch it on BBC 2. It used to be on once a week after the Fresh Prince of Bel Air when I was at school.
That would mean that it hasn't aired for at least 9 years, but in reality it's likely that it hasn't been on for about 11-12 as I don't recall that it was on when I was doing A-Levels.
I can't remember the name of the Mountie or the Chicago cop but the dog was called Diefenbacker.
For me this programme left me feeling great and I loved its mix of humour and sorrow. As usual though, they started showing the programme at irregular times and I'm sure it was cancelled
Does anyone else remember this? Did anyone actually like this programme? Can you get now? :)

Due South was great!
The cops name was Vechio (both of them :) )

I used to love this show :) The mountie was called Benton iirc and you can get it on R1 DVD but not R2.
goth willow fan - August 3, 2004 01:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's it, Benton Fraser.

| Yeah, that's it, Benton Fraser. |
That's it veccio (sic i'm sure) used to call him fraser, but i thought i was confusing it with the sitcom so I didn't write it.
I even thought it moralised well, no?
goth willow fan - August 3, 2004 02:20 PM (GMT)
Yep, Fraser always found a way to do the right thing.

I remember how his dad was dead but Fraser still spoke to him. there was an ep with Leslie Neilsen. Marvellous
on a completely different note, when did you get promoted Paul?

I used to watch this and I liked it, but all I remember about it is there's a cop, his friend the mountie, and the mountie's white dog. :)

The marvels of nostalgia

I remember this, the mountie used to be very intuative and the dog was deaf but understood everthing that he was told.
One thing I remember in an episode is when Benton Fraser picked up a piece of crap and tasted it while he was on the trail of something or other.
goth willow fan - August 3, 2004 05:37 PM (GMT)
Oh yes, he was forever sniffing and tasting the most disgusting things

Ah, nostalgia indeed. This was one my favourite shows back in that day too. In fact its the first of the “watched-from-start-to-finish” shows for me. I loved it. :)
Nick – it all started out as a TV movie iirc. This then lead to a season that I believe ran from ‘94 to ‘96. It was dropped by CBS after the first season due to poor rating, but they then picked it up for a mid-season slot. I think this totalled 40 episodes altogether.
Then after like a year or two, the network decided to resurrect to cast and crew. This is where the Chicago detective changed from Ray Vecchio to Kowalski. This was then duly cancelled after a season and a bit, round 30 episodes me thinks, again because of poor ratings.
I’ll never forget the last episode. It was brilliant. Not only did they manage to bring Ray back, they also wheeled in Leslie Neilson as a Mountie. Fantastic!

Oh how I wish BBC2 would do a rerun of this on sunday mornings like they used to

I Loved Due South! Never missed an ep :D Although the Spin-Off (The second season can be classed as that due to different funding, cast, writers ect ;) ) wasn’t as good, the new Ray was a little annoying. You could never beat the original Ray :01: The whole original show was fantastic! ...the last episode was brilliant too :)
Most of them are up for d/l at SuprNova ;)

Aww. I kinda liked Ray#2 (Mmmmm, Callum Keith Rennie :D )
Funnily enough, he popped up in Kingdom Hospital a couple of weeks ago. He was the baseball player that tried to commit suicide if anyone was wondering :D

Did you know he was born in England. Don't know when he moved to Canada. He did a good job with the tough city accent.

I bet KINGDOM HOSPITAL is filmed in Canada. I glimpsed pretty Allison Hossack, a Canadian actress, in the cast (that still didn't persuade me to watch the series).

This used to be one of my favourite shows, at least while David Marciano was in it.
I remember the opening sequence of the pilot got me hooked, with Benny pursuing the villain and then bringing him back through blizzards and over mountains, walking in and throwing him in jail, then turning to the other Mounties and saying "That'll teach him to fish over the limit"
And then in the second episode (?) when he was looking for an apartment where he could open the window and Ray said to him "The only reason for opening a window in Chicago is to get a better aim"
I think my favourite episodes were Victoria's Secret parts 1 and 2 and North. I've still got most of them on video. I might have to go and rewatch them all now. :)
This is a good site for the show.

I’ve been watching Due South for the past few hours now, I’ve watched the telly movie and eps 1,2 and 3. After seeing if for the first time (over 8 years ago? ) and only remembering loving it, not much has changed :) It’s still a great show! :)
S1 and 2 are up on SuprNova ;)

Sooo jealous, rob! Oh if only I had a fast internet connection at home, I don't think I'd ever stop downloading stuff.
Glad it's as good as you remember it :)

No probs. I must get them, I've only got videos of some - not all - of the episodes at the mo. Thing is, I'm working my way through so much other stuff at present that I don't know when I'd get to watch them!

Even the theme tune’s still top notch, it’s one of those themes that gets stuck in your head for days, right Steve?
You might want to buy instead of downloading Nick, they’re huge files with slow speeds <_<

What are you trying to say Rob? :P
Okay, okay - I confess. I bought the soundtrack just for the theme music.
