Interesting. I thought they did an excellent job with Razor, so if it means more of the same... :ponder:

Proposed to shoot this summer apparently and possibly meant to bridge the gap between the two halves of this season.
Which, I would imagine, means they'll not be set post-finale. Most likely another Razor scenario.
Good news though, I'm not ready for the show to end yet.

But the films could indeed get made. And it’s important to note that these proposed films won't affect the finale of "Battlestar Galactica" in any way -- that series finale will still proceed as planned. The films would be about incidents in “Battlestar Galactica’s” past. They will not take place after the time frame of the series finale. And the stories in the proposed films will depend, at least in part, on what actors are available to work on them.

Wonder if they'll come up with original story ideas or whether they'll try and remake some of the classic episodes from the original series.
The Ice-planet 2-parter might be a decent idea.

Honestly, I'm not overly hopeful given the quality of the third series/razor movie. I think in the case of Battlestar Galactica less is more and expanding beyond the series is not a good thing. I think the writers need to concentrate on the main central story before expanding the Battlestar Galactica universe.
There are many series that have stories or writers worthy of expanding those particular sci-fi/fantasy universes. I don't honestly believe Battlestar Galactica has the stories worth expanding, given that Battlestar Galactica has already proven that it's struggling for stories after only three series.
Maybe if Ronald d moore plays a massive role in shaping the final 4th/5 series, who knows. BUT I feel BSG's best has already passed.

updated info from Sitrep sources regarding the first BATTLESTAR GALACTICA TV Movie.
The first of a possible three films is now in development. The studio has reportedly offered a deal to Dean Stockwell, and is interested in making deals with Michael Trucco, Aaron Douglas, Grace Park, Michael Hogan and Katee Sackhoff, among others, for this film.
Jane Espenson will write the script, and as we said recently, Edward James Olmos will be directing.
Pretty. Frakking. Kewl.
ETA: Looks like Aaron Douglas told his fan site moderator that the TV movie will take place some time during the events of BSG's first season...and (OMG!) that BSG writer/producers David Weddle and Bradley Thompson are leaving the BSG crew as of this week for "a very popular show"? Frak.
ETA Part 2: David Weddle has confirmed he and Thompson are indeed leaving BSG for a hit network show... |
