Discuss. :)

Hmm. I`ve been a bit underwhelmed by the two-parter.

There were a few nice bits, like Are you my Mummy ? and Donna being brave enough to go outside the Tardis, but overall there just wasn`t a wow moment for me. :(

Liked the blink-and-you-miss-it Rose cameo.

Next week`s ep looks excellent.

I agree it wasn't wowing apart from the Rose bit mouthing Doctor but it was a nice wrap up to last weeks episode.

Now maybe someone will explain next weeks plot line for me, the Doctors daughter? When, what and how!

little pixie - May 4, 2008 12:45 PM (GMT)

He did have a granddaughter, Susan, back in the days of the first Doctor. :ponder:

I suppose his daughter could come from any of his incarnations.

Although didn`t he have a son and daughter in his possible alternative timeline when he was John Smith - the human teacher at the Edwardian era school ? :)

^^ I`ve just hidden that in case anyone`s avoiding the trailers. ;)

:ponder: trailer (well there is quite a few of his people for a guy who is the last of his kind, the master now his daughter)

:lmao: @ "are you my mummy?" injoke

 @ rose "blink and you will miss it" appearance

 to the valiant

 donna's mom with an axe

interesting bit about the brigadier (stranded in peru, they needed a reason :ermm: )

 the doctor not falling for clone martha (obvious from when he asked her about calling tom and her parents)

finally a bit more action for donna, but it shouldn't be that hard to hide from the sontarans with their big helmets :ermm: and the doctor finally giving Donna the key of the tardis but (she doesn't think it's something important, compare to rose or martha's reaction)

genius luke who was so happy to have a war and got redeemed by replacing the doctor to blow the sontarans

not the best two parts episodes but there is martha :)

I think that Helen Raynor is better suited to doing stand-alone episodes as opposed to two-parters. Her Torchwood episodes (Ghost Machine and To The Last Man) were pretty good but the Daleks two-parter from last year was a bit , though this one was better.

Donna grew on me in this episode, her venturing out of the TARDIS was pretty brave and they seem to have toned down her mouthiness a bit (though there are times when I wish she would stop shouting).

Don't really know what to make of Clone!Martha. It was pretty obvious that the Doctor knew she was a clone pretty early on ("Have you phoned your family yet?").

Blink-and-you'll-miss-her!Rose . Makes me want to rewatch 4x02-4x04 to see if there have been any other Rose sightings (it would be a brilliant nod to the S1 Bad Wolf thing "Everywhere we go. Two words. Following us. Bad Wolf."). Talking of mentions of S1, I loved that "Are you my Mummy?" line. I laughed and my Dad just looked at me a bit odd . And a reference to Jack too.

Next week looks pretty good, and it looks like they're (spoilers coming up)starting to collect companions for the season finale with Martha coming with them. Wonder if the Torchwood 3 team are next?

re the brigadier

digitalspy interview of Nicholas Courtney (aka Brigadier Alastair Lethbridge-Stewar)

just wonder, the doctor seemed to have issue with guns, is it due to the death of the master or there is something else (something to do with UNIT)?

I seem to remember the Doctor always having an issue with guns (though I can't remember where I'm getting that from). Can't really have the Doctor being trigger-happy when he's a hero to kids ;)

I'm sure you are right Laura - I think it has been an ongoing thing over the years :)

I blinked. I missed it

Then I saw Billie in the credits and thought "oh"

Hmm, guess I'm the only one who thoroughly enjoyed this then. I thought both parts were great, apart from Donna's mother

Mind you, I always liked the Sontarans

Loved the bit where The Doctor had the gas mask on and said "are you my mummy?" - nice little in-joke

maybe it was just the number of people (who are the good guys) with guns around him that put the doctor on edge (not to mention clone martha and luke targetting him  )

Like his past selves, he is critical of weapons, going as far as to describe people with guns as "the enemy" in The Sontaran Stratagem.

Wiki

It doesn`t give any examples though. :ponder:

I wonder if the anti-gun stuff is from the Third Doctor and the Brigadier stories.

prophecy girl - May 7, 2008 09:13 AM (GMT)
well he was upset with people with guns but have a laugh at the sontaran (who use laser) still he didn't really react when they used the valiant (it look like torchwood shared with Unit that green energy weapon ..... from the first christmas episode with DT or did the valiant always has it ? ).

I missed Rose's appearance, when was it?

prophecy girl - May 7, 2008 09:41 AM (GMT)
the sontarans have taken the tardis to their ship with donna inside, the doctor contact the sontarans, donna rush to the monitor, quick shot of rose before the image turn to the doctor

little pixie - May 7, 2008 10:58 AM (GMT)
Rose looked like she was shouting Doctor. :)

prophecy girl - May 7, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
:ermm: guess this time it's really important for her to contact him (as opposite as in episode one)

I really enjoyed both parts as well. :)

Enjoyed the Sontarans. Spent both episodes trying to work out who was playing the lead Sontaran as his voice was very familiar and it was Mike from The Young Ones wasn't it.
