| Donna is determined to find the Doctor again - even if it means braving the villainous Miss Foster and her hordes of sinister Adipose. |
Rose!!!!!!!!!! That's all I've got right now . I knew she was coming back but wasn't expecting to see her until late in the season :yahoo:
prophecy girl - April 5, 2008 06:24 PM (GMT)
:lmao:  love the first 20 minutes, the doctor and donna failing to meet while being on the same investigation, the miming conversation
  @ Rose (how? why? and the disappearing like a ghost/found a way to move between world  )
everyone can have sonic pen now? :ermm:
/more about donna/the doctor soon
little pixie - April 5, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)
Wow !  :o :o And again
Oooh, I wasn`t expecting Rose at all, yay !
I actually liked Donna ; I think they`ve toned down the shoutyness and given her some quite poignant scenes so she comes across as far more likeable. :)
Favourite scene at the mo was the Donna/Doctor mime sequence.
Were those monsters Moomins ? ;)
Crichton Kicks - April 5, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
Really enjoyed the episode.
I thought that Sarah Lancashire did a very good guest spot as well.
The only thing that I'd be slightly critical of was the 'moomins'. WTF?!

Yes, but only one person can have a sonic screwdriver ;)
I enjoyed it, quite funny, Donna wasn't too annoying, quite amusing to see Bernard Cribbins - you'd think he would have recognised the TARDIS
Russell T Davies seems to have a monopoly on creating annoying mothers, though <_<
Darris - April 6, 2008 12:11 PM (GMT)
I had already had a sneaky at the clip on the BBC site and was aware of the fat creatures, too cute for my liking, I guess though Sarah Lancashire's character was the 'baddie' of the episode.
I am yet to warm to Donna, although some scenes were quite funny and I do think her character is an ideal one to be with the Doctor after having Rose and Martha before her.
The best part for me though was seeing Rose at the end, that was a surprise, we all know she is going to be in the season but it didn't occur to me she would be in the first episode. And seeing her fade away, well that poses more questions, is she able to appear in the Doctors presence at will?

Doctor Who attracts 8.4m viewers Doctor Who's comeback attracted 8.4 million viewers to BBC One, despite fears an earlier timeslot would harm the sci-fi series.
The early figures, which do not include those who recorded the show, compared with 8.71 million viewers for the debut of its previous series.
Last year's figures included those who recorded the programme to watch later.
Writer Russell T Davies had criticised the BBC's decision to show the programme earlier in the evening.
"It's not a time slot I agree with," he said of the show's scheduling at 1815 on Saturday evening.
"I'd rather it went out later [at 1900]. But we've been told that it's a gateway to the whole Saturday night. We'll see on Monday morning what it's like."
Doctor Who was Saturday evening's top-rated programme, but it was left in the shade earlier in the day by coverage of the Grand National, which hit a peak of 10.1 million viewers as joint favourite Comply or Die surged to victory at Aintree.
BBC One's Talent contest I'd Do Anything had 6.8 million viewers, while 7.1 million viewers watched medical drama casualty.
ITV1's most watched entertainment programme was Harry Hill's TV Burp, which attracted 5.5 million viewers.
But it scored a bigger hit with live boxing, with a peak of 5.9 million viewers tuning in to see Amir Khan defeat Danish fighter Martin Kristjansen.

I really enjoyed it as well. :)
They seem to have done a good job developing Donna's character and I thought CT did a good job. Sarah Lancashire was pretty good as well and I really liked the little monsters - I thought they were cute. :)
Loved the mime scene  and as has been said totally surprised to see Rose pop up like that. :o
prophecy girl - April 6, 2008 04:49 PM (GMT)
loved the nanny "are we interrupting you, maybe?" comment after the all miming scene
the adipose were kind of cute
 there is a monters files
here ( with Captain Jack revealing facts, figures and top secret info about the Adipose )

the doctor throw the sonic pen in a bin, i don't think he turn it off before that, maybe not a good idea
Donna mentionned some cardiff incidents (while she was looking for the doctor), just wonder which one(s)
TV Crazy - April 6, 2008 05:34 PM (GMT)
Fantastic episode
Loved the miming scene - a perfect reunion :lmao:
Rose :o - wasn't expecting to see her that soon. Wonder how that works.
Is anyone else glad that Donna doesn't fancy the Doctor? I mean i'm usually all for ships, but every companion falling for him would start to bug me, i think it will work really well with the Doctor and Donna being "mates".
endgame - April 6, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
I quite enjoyed it :)
Like everyone else I wasn't expecting to see Rose and was really shocked :o
I was also pleasantly surprised by Catherine Tate as Donna. I didn't see the Christmas Special with her and I've never been her biggest fan but I thought she was really good. And I like the character of Donna and I think Donna and The Doctor spark off each other really well. I also like the fact that she's older than Rose and Martha and doesn't have a crush on The Doctor.
I thought the Adipose were really cute, but gross at the same time :ermm:
Laura - April 6, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
Firstly, I should probably address the whole issue of Donna. I am not a Catherine Tate fan in her comedy persona, I just do not find her sketch show funny at all, so I do have some reservations about them bringing Donna back. She annoyed me in The Runaway Bride and I did go "oh hell no" when The Doctor invited her along, but she was alright here. There were some moments where I thought it was maybe trying a bit too hard to be funny (that mime scene went on a bit too long and the "you ain't mating with me" bit wasn't as funny as I think they meant it to be) but overall it was fine. I'll need to wait and see how it plays out through the season, it's good that they've aknowledged that the last two companions have had feelings for him and that they've set the boundaries in this relationship already, it looks like she'll be questioning him a lot more than the others have (I liked that reference to his murder of the spider-babies in The Runaway Bride from Donna).
Anyway, CT's first proper outing as a companion has been very much overshadowed by that little glimpse of Rose. My excitement level for this season skyrocketed when I saw her, it's going to be brilliant to have her back. I can't wait to see the reunion of Rose and the Doctor.
* Oooh a slightly different theme, think I preferred the old one though.
* Where have I seen that corridor in the basement before? And was that building the same one that Jack was thrown from in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang?
* Those Adipose were adorable, there must be plans to bring out cuddly Adipose toys for Christmas surely? Sarah Lancashire was brilliant as evil!Mary Poppins.
* Did anyone else think "it goes ding when there's stuff" as the Doctor was tracking the Adipose?
Next week -
"volcano day", I would so love to see Captain Jack wandering around somewhere in the background (I know it won't happen but it would be fantastic).

DOCTOR How was your con supposed to work?
JACK Simple enough, really. Find some harmless piece of space-junk... let the nearest Time Agent track it back to Earth. Convince him it's valuable, name a price. When he's put 50% up front - oops! A German bomb falls on it, destroys it forever. He never gets to see what he's paid for. Never knows he's been had. I buy him a drink with his own money, and we discuss dumb luck. The perfect self-cleaning con.
DOCTOR Yeah. Perfect.
JACK The London Blitz is great for self-cleaners - Pompeii's nice if you want to make a vacation of it though, but you've got to set your alarm for volcano day. |

I am glad you mentioned the theme, when I heard it I did think it was different.

Oooh, I thought the theme had been tarted up, but I wasn`t sure. :)

I think that was the scene when Martha, the Doctor and the detective are talking, after the detective`s just been sent back in time outside the underground car park ?

I really liked the episode. Donna was actually not half as annoying as she was in the christmas special and was even rather amusing at times.
The adipose were well cute. ...even though the thought of what they actually are made of is a bit :x.
:o Rose!
prophecy girl - April 7, 2008 08:56 AM (GMT)
Donna might have the doctor go mad, she was a bit too happy to go with him (just for the amount of bags  maybe he should have mentionned he had a huge wardrobe  )

Apparently they edited Rose's appearance out of the press screening they had which is why it was such a surprise. :)

You just can`t trust journalists with the big, important stories.
