| Ashes to Ashes Thursday 27 March 9:00pm - 10:00pm BBC1 8/8 It toys with us, this series, shifting its complexion as easily as one of David Attenborough's chameleons. One minute it spooks us with its nightmare/ flashback sequences. The next it's a broad comedy of manners. Then it's a police procedural. Then it's a bit sci-fi . Then it's a tear-jerking drama. Then the heroine gets in a big pink tank and drives it over the top of a Ford Escort - oh, I give up. Tonight is the last episode of the series (a second is promised) so we can hope for a few answers to the riddles that haunt DI Alex Drake (Keeley Hawes). It's the day before her mother and father were blown up in the family car: "I have 24 hours to save my parents and go home," Alex declares. We won't hold our breath. The scene is set for a powerful finale that also brings hissing baddie Arthur Layton back into things. Meanwhile, police reformer Lord Scarman (played by Geoffrey Palmer - see above) pays a visit to inspect the station and brings out the best in Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister).
