| Utterly brilliant one minute and a letdown the next: as Gene Hunt says of an unreliable witness, "Quite frankly, I've had custard with more consistency." That's Ashes to Ashes all over, though there's more than enough of the brilliant to make it a must-see. Tonight's high point is the Manc Lion's awkward attempt to ask Alex on a date ("Somewhere posh, trout and almonds, my shout") while The Man with the Child in His Eyes by Kate Bush plays on the radio. It's a sweet scene - with a parting shot that's pure Gene. As for the main plot, there's a scarcely recognisable Matthew Macfadyen, a cameo from Shaw Taylor (Gene goes on Police 5!) and some shattering moments as the clown promises Alex, "I'm going to take someone . . ." |

The boy band gag was pretty funny.
I really enjoyed the boybands gag. I don't really know what I'm feeling about this series, it's certainly not gripped me in the same way that Life on Mars did
