I love how completely spoilery the titles for this and the next episode are

prophecy girl - February 21, 2008 10:38 AM (GMT)
is it me or owen going after death because he has nothing to lose had a lot of owen from season one who went in the fight cage against the weevil because he didn't care about anything anymore :ermm: . and it look like the all owen/tosh has ended

:ph43r: at the bad effect at being dead ("oh right no blood" :naughty: , and how he had to get rid of the alcohol)

jack on finding the other glove (a spychic? i wanna know more :ermm: and i think the writers were in a rush to think of something better)

not much of martha (but nice old make up) or even ianto :ermm: , it was more about owen, his talk with jack about being immortal. jack excuse to bring back owen "i need a security code" or "i was not ready to let you go" (he is having trouble with everyone then)

gwen definitly have issue with the idea of glove (but not really surprising)

the special effect of the demon was really good

While I enjoyed the ep, I`m a bit disappointed they brought Owen back. :ph43r:

It just seemed like the usual culty thing to do. <_<

Liking the way it looks like his character is developing though ; I thought Burn Wotsit was excellent in Bleak House and the Owen character didn`t give him much of a part, but what`s happening looks far more interesting than Original Owen. :)

prophecy girl - February 21, 2008 03:35 PM (GMT)
tosh: what now?

jack: well i don't know but you can't escape death forever (say the guy who can't die  well ok he does die but he always come back )

and owen who kinda hear kinda look surprised

it wasn't really clear but is owen still a dead body?

I thought so. :)
Possible spoiler trailer bit for next week >>>>

Wasn`t there something about him being able to evade the heat sensors when he broke into the house because his body was at room temperature ?

just checked the trailer again ( iplayer) and

it seem he can also walk underwater and get electrocuted for a very long time  :ponder:

First impressions:

- Jack - what a selfish *******. You just knew that there would be horrible consequences from using that glove, and Owen could have been stuck like that forever. (I totally understand why he did it, who doesn't want to say a proper goodbye, but this is Torchwood and they've dealt with this glove thing before with disasterous consequences)

- "I have searched for the phrase 'I shall walk the earth and my hunger will know no bounds' but I keep getting directed to weightwatchers' :lmao:.

- Burn Gorman was really good as usual, though I wasn't a fan of the moving background when he went out of the Hub (just as I didn't like the transitions they used in Reset - a bit too gimicky for me).

- Would you want to watch the autopsy of a friend? I know that I certainly wouldn't :ermm:.

- The projectile vomiting :x

- Owen's 27? I would have thought he would have been early to mid 30s myself. So how old are the rest of them meant to be?

Hmm, it did seem a bit odd that they were all clustered around.

They didn't on screen. I would imagine that they would if they were going to with Owen.

I didn't think this episode was as good as the previous couple have been but it was still good. A few plot points that made you go "um what" such as the supernatural bar and creepy girl (which I wonder if that will ever turn up again), if Jack knew about this other glove why hasn't he done anything before now etc.

Jack, you're a selfish *******. I can see where he's coming from, who doesn't wish desperately that they can bring back a loved one who died suddenly to say a proper goodbye?, but gah. The previous glove wasn't a great success was it, and "different glove" doesn't really cut it. That glove could have done absolutely anything, Owen could have been stuck like that forever. And he's still undead now, albeit for a finite period of time.

Burn Gorman was, as he always is imo, fantastic, and I could really feel for him. He's undead, he can't do anything that he enjoyed when he was alive. He knows that was it, that was what he accomplished with his life.

* Would you watch the autopsy of a friend, I certainly wouldn't. Odd.
* "They come in pairs" hee.
* Owen in the darkness reminds me of something I've seen before, but I can't place it.
* I'm not a fan of the character standing still while the background moves around them type camera work. Just like I didn't like the transitions they used during last week's episode, it just seems a bit out of place and not really needed.
* Imagery in the bar with death in the music video and a (really forward) Angel chatting Owen up.
* Enough with having John Barrowman do funny voices. The pirate voice in Sleeper, the army sergent in Reset and now the special needs gag here, just stop please.
* I really enjoyed the scene with Owen and Jack in the cells, they are such confrontational characters that we never really see them having a quiet chat with each other it's usually arguments. Jack telling him that he feels guilty that he has to send them into situations knowing that they could die and he'll walk away physically fine was a nice touch. But if Jack has a Torchwood authorisation code, wouldn't Owen?
* They really like to use Cardiff's multistorey carparks in this show don't they? The carpark Jack and Owen end up in is the same on Jack and Gwen follow a Weevil to in Combat last season. And the carpark in Everything Changes looked to be same on John threw the guy off in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
* "This has never let us down before" Yeah, it's an brilliant McGuffin that - it's an electronic book reader, a lockpick and now a translator!
* Of all the weapons in the armoury...

Jack: "Seriously? You chose a hockey stick?"
Ianto: "Hmm, good point"
And it means Jack wasn't joking about playing hockey at home in Sleeper *g*.
* There is a cyberman on the screen behind Owen in the medical bay for some reason
* In the hospital wouldn't people go "who the hell are Torchwood and what right do you have to evacuate?". Does this mean that all the emergency services know about them, and if so why not introduce themselves as Torchwood rather than the police when they got there?
* "I've searched for the phrase 'I shall walk the Earth and my hunger will know no bounds', but I keep getting redirected to weightwatchers' *g*.
* The earpieces are annoying me a lot this season. There is no continuity in what they're doing. Fair enough if they want to get rid of the bluetooth headsets but either go with the secret service agent style earpiece they used during To The Last Man or stick with the bizarre invisible/telepathic thing they've gone for this episode.
* The fight at the end did look a bit daft

I'm now spoiler free from this point onwards, apart from something which will no doubt be in the trailer for ep 9 and something which isn't plot related for ep 11.

The official site is updated with wallpapers for this episode.

I`m enjoying this season, although I do find an awful lot to nitpick about it.

just wonder if jack was expecting the same aftereffect than with suzie when he decide to be the one using the glove (exchange of energy/lifeforce kind of thing)

I don't think Jack was thinking at all at that point. He was too much in shock and grief to think straight. I assume they imagined that he would be brought back for the two minutes or so that the original victims pre-Suzie came back for.

I think it's a vast improvement on S1, which I put down to listening to some fan complaints and having a decent amount of time to shoot (though apparently there were still some production problems from some interviews I've read). There are still some massive plotholes in some stories though.

The smut seems to have been toned down. :ponder:

I wonder if the Owen reboot was due to fans disliking his character ?

Edited for spelling.

I suppose they needed to make him more sympathetic to get a reaction to killing him in Reset, and he was certainly a polarising figure in the fandom.

This week things are looking pretty grim in Torchwood Declassified (BBC Two, Thursday 28th February 7.50pm*) as the team are deep in shock following the death of Owen Harper.

Burn Gorman joins John Barrowman and creator Russell T Davies to look at how the doctor's demise affects Torchwood, and talk about how Captain Jack's actions lead them to their darkest hour.

In an episode where a primal force is wreaking havoc across the Earth, Torchwood Declassified is on location to witness the work of the Weevils. Plus, cameras go backstage to follow the busy hands of the special effects teams as they unleash this force from the darkness onto your screens.

Matt Jones spoke to us about how he approached writing Dead Man Walking.

How did you get into writing?
Oh, because of Doctor Who. My love of reading and writing goes directly back to the Target novelizations of Doctor Who I read and reread as a boy. I always wrote Doctor Who stories when I was a kid, and then reading Paul Cornell's brilliant Doctor Who novel 'Revelation' inspired me to try and write one myself. Back in the 90s, Paul made Doctor Who feel contemporary again, ten years later Russell would do the same, but on a slightly bigger scale! If you're interested in writing, Paul's books are a lesson in how to write passionate and emotional adventure stories.

What was the brief you were given for the episode?
Russell wanted the episode to start with one of the team dying, Jack bringing them back with the glove and it all going hideously wrong. The rest was up to me. I liked the idea of Owen not coming back alone and then the image of the Grim Reaper stalking Torchwood came quickly after that.

The build up towards something 'waiting' in the Darkness has been with Torchwood since the first series. What challenges did you face bringing Death to earth?
Owen only says 'Suzie said there was something in the darkness waiting', we don't know if he's right that she was referring to the creature from this episode. He's just speculating.

What inspired the 'collection of 13 souls' motive for Death's return?
We needed a ticking clock in the last act to give the team more urgency in trying to destroy the creature. Originally there was much more discussion about souls and life after death, but the script was too long to schedule so some of those ideas got trimmed back.

Do you see Death as a villain?
God yes! Life is so precious. Seventy years if you're lucky. Feels like no time at all.

In the story, the idea was that you never knew if the creature was Death itself or a creature from another dimension that had been mistaken for the Grim Reaper.

What was it like to write for a dead man?
It was hard until I worked out that Owen was going through a bereavement, the only difference was it was his own. Then it became clear to me what his journey was going to be - from a desperate denial to a mature acceptance.

The scene where Owen looks at things the living take for granted...what do you think you would miss?
Exactly those small things: the sun on my face, spooning a lover, hanging out with old friends.

What's your favourite line in the episode?
It's not a line, but there's a little look from Ianto and Jack as he's wielding a hockey stick, searching for the scuttling glove - which made me fall about laughing.

This week's making ofs are a look at how the cast amuse themselves while waiting to film , a look at Martha's old makeup, a look at how they made the Weevil's and a look at the photoshoot.

This week's casefiles include a leaflet on Death and St. Marys, more on the resurrection glove (complete with snarky Ianto comment), a report on the girl at the start of the ep, the CCTV footage of Owen and Owen's brain scan.

Jack's inbox is updated , as is Ianto's.

It 's entirely possible that you mean spychic or psychic for the baby tarot wielder, but which is it?

And wasn't the church full of dead dollies the most bizarre and unnerving sight?

still isn't it strange to have an unused church full of weevils in Cardiff?

They come from another world...and collect action men and barbies. Very very odd

Strange how those beasties were forgotten about in the last five minutes.

Apart from that, I've quite enjoyed the last couple of episodes, despite a sense of seeing it all somewhere before.
