Title: Renewals (CBS)

BouncyCastle - February 15, 2008 11:59 AM (GMT)
CBS has given early renewals to eleven series for the 2008-09 season.

The pickup includes the three series in the CSI franchise, as well as dramas Ghost Whisperer, Cold Case, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Without A Trace and Numb3rs, plus the comedy Two and a Half Men. The network has also given the go-ahead to a second season of new comedy The Big Bang Theory.

Previously renewed were the reality series Survivor, for two new cycles, and The Amazing Race, for a 13th run.

Meanwhile, the future remains uncertain for Shark, Cane, The Unit and Moonlight, as well as comedies How I Met Your Mother, The Rules of Engagement and The New Adventures of Old Christine.

Noooo, not The Unit ! <_<

<< Sulks >> <_< <_<

Crichton Kicks - February 15, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
The Unit, Shark and Rules of Engagement will all be back.

Those renewed above are all CBS' perceived 'franchise' shows. They're the ones that CBS will have wanted nailed down early before anything else.

HIMYM might be dicey to predict. Cane is pretty much gone. Moonlight could go either way, and Jericho will need to improve over the next few episodes to stand a chance of coming back next year.

No need to panic yet.

Bit of stuff from Ask Ausiello...

Question: So now that the strike is over, what's the status of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse? Spill! — Jen

Ausiello: The status is Joss is pounding out a pilot script at this very moment. Barring any major hiccups, the show could be on the air as early as fall.

Question: Please let us know how worried, on a scale of 1-10, we should be that How I Met Your Mother was not one of the shows CBS has renewed so far. — Rebecca

Ausiello: They're about the same as they were at this point last year — coincidentally, right around the time I cobbled together this blind item.

Blind Item: Beloved Comedy on the Bubble

This week's blind item is so depressing, you may want to shield your eyes. It concerns a comedy series that enjoys a cult following, tons of buzz and heaps of critical praise.

Unfortunately, the laffer in question lacks support where it counts the most: at the very network that airs it. You see, an influential suit at the net thinks the show is about as funny as a root canal, and is flummoxed by its appeal. He/she proved this by passing the laffer over for a major promotion earlier this season — a sleight that left members of the media (yours truly included) scratching their heads. Basically, said big shot would be more than happy to permanently clear it from the sked, and the program's modest ratings may be just the excuse he/she needs.

There's just one problem: Because the knee-slapper isn't perceived as a "bubble show," there are no fan campaigns being organized to help save it. In other words, there's a very real chance this endangered series could be put out to pasture in May with nary a postcard mailed or petition signed. And I can't think of anything less funny than that. So, any guesses? I hate to say it, but this show's very future probably depends on you figuring it

Question: Please don't let them cancel Women's Murder Club. What's the latest on its renewal chances? — Jennifer

Ausiello: On the plus side, I hear ABC is committed to trying to make the show work — hence the firing of three exec producers last week. On the downside, the sets have been dismantled, which is always an ominous sign. According to one Clubgoer, the trick now is finding a show-runner who gets the series and sees eye to eye with creator/novelist James Patterson. And per my source, "Patterson isn't on the same page with anyone."

Question: Now that the strike is over, what's the deal with Bones? Are they making any new episodes? — Ali

Ausiello: OK, here's the deal: In addition to the four pre-strike episodes, two new episodes will be produced, and then all six will air on consecutive Mondays beginning April 14.
