Title: Season 3 - Up To & Including Ep 22
Description: **Bravo pace SPOILERS**
Michelle - July 26, 2004 12:38 PM (GMT)
Well, I had to wait a whole day between the penultimate episode and the final one due to me being far too busy on the Saturday, but I finally got round to watching it yesterday afternoon. Which means that the person who said "at this rate you'll be finished before the next episode is shown on Bravo" was correct.:lol:
The final episode was quite strange as season finales go. A lot of times I found myself thinking "have I missed something" but I guess that was mostly cos of the face mask thing. It was still pretty entertaining though. Although, a repeat of a big female fight like with last season? And how many bullets did it take to kill her?!?!
How many times did Vaughn end up in the hospital throughout the season?
If they can do face masks so authentic that it looks like the real person, why don't they use them as disguise all the time rather than just wigs where the facial features can sometimes be recognised?
Not quite understanding the extent of what Jack has done with Syd. Has he basically co-ordinated all thats happened in her life, and her sister's life too? But either way, it should make for some interesting conflict next season. And Syd's middle name is Anne too, same as Buffy's. Wonder if that is on purpose? ;)
I'll leave off rambling more about it, for now. :)

Ahhh....the last ep. I was just glad to see Lauren go, I didn't notice much else
I'm a bit worried about Marshall though. :o
As for the name thing...I think I saw somewhere that JG's middle name is Anne, and they used her birthday for Syd's birthday too.

I'm sure Marshall will be fine. :) At first I thought, oh it'll only be a tranq dart, and then I realised probably not, cos she's EVIL. :fear:
But she's dead now. Yay!!

There isn't enough yay in the world ;)

yay! people who have seen 22. Vaugh was so damn hot in this episode, esp the Sark torture scene where he was wearing that blue shirt and rolled his sleeves up................mmmmmmmmm....
I havent forgotten the Alias rule that noone ever really dies, are we really supposed to believe she's dead?? At the mo I think its just wishful thinkin.
Poor marshall!!!! he has to be ok cos the show wouldnt be the same without him.
Margot C - August 4, 2004 11:34 AM (GMT)
Well, she was reduced to 'recurring character' for next season, but now she has a movie role or something, so I've got my fingers crossed that she won't be coming back at all. Or, if she insists on appearing, I can deal with flashbacks. But not still-alive-Lauren. They can't make us watch that - they just can't!

I agree it would be traumatic, just think, all those GSW's she must at least be deformed!

Another thing Alias shares with Buffy.
I would hope after about 6 gun wounds and a fall down a mine shaft(?) she would be dead, but you never know.

I've already mentioned this to Kate, but I thought the season came off the rails quite badly in the last few episodes. Don't get me wrong, it's still been entertaining, but not up to the standards it set itself in the previous two seasons.
That finale exhibited all of the worst aspects of it - there was just lazy writing all over the place: Vaughn's miraculous recovery from punctured lung to sliding down a fire hose in minutes; How did Derevko know where he had taken Lauren, very convenient; Vaughn manages to hit Lauren with every shot when he couldn't hit her with a machine gun last week  ; when did they suddenly get the ability to make such perfect masks? Kind of renders the procedure used on Allison a bit redundant doesn't it?; And how on earth did Jack know that Syd was going to the vault at the end, conveniently waiting until she'd read the documents before interrupting?
Sorry to be so negative. I love this series but I feel a bit let down cos it was pants.
Hopefully they'll pull it around next season. :)
Margot C - August 9, 2004 10:25 AM (GMT)
No, I agree. I've thought this whole season was a let-down, so it was no surprise that the finale was nowhere near the standard of the previous two. Ridiculouslness and contrivance aside though, it wasn't a bad ep, imo. I love the fact that Lauren's dead. That scene was so great to watch
And, well, I'm a total S/V shipper, so the ep where they get back together was always going to go down well with me.
I actually liked the cliffhanger. JJ's managed to turn the Alias world upside down again! Hopefully the next season will be focused on the Jack/Syd relationship. I also think the twist with Sloane and Nadia should provide some interesting storylines.

Let's hope so. I'm curious as to how Lauren knew about the documents, too. And what about poor Marshall? :o
Margot C - August 9, 2004 11:16 AM (GMT)
I'm very worried about Marshall. They didn't seem to care too much about him though, did they? I mean, we got one sentence "oh yeah, he'll be fine" and that was it!
Margot
willowroolz - August 9, 2004 12:17 PM (GMT)
Yes, and I thought Syd would've been a bit more concerned about her sister going missing, too!
Flamingo - August 9, 2004 05:29 PM (GMT)
JJ says he's excited about the first episode which gets me all happy cos It means season 4 will prob be an improvement.
I agree with what Steve said, there is way too many coincidences, and I dont like the way Katya was dealt with either. It struck me the other day when I was watching her first episode that she was helping a Covenant defect go ahead, it doesn't seem right that she could still work for the Covenant after that...
Margot C - August 9, 2004 07:40 PM (GMT)
Hmm, but JJ also said that we would love Lauren and be torn between her and Sydney for whose side we should be on. Oh, and then there was the "Season 3 will be the season of Sark" promise.
I don't believe it til I see it now :)
Margot
willowroolz - August 9, 2004 08:05 PM (GMT)
I'm sure they had great plans for season 3 when they started out. Sometimes these things just don't go according to plan. I think every great series is entitled to one below par season. Just so long as it's only one, JJ
Flamingo - August 10, 2004 07:28 AM (GMT)
Youve got a point  but Im feeling good about it because JJ himself realised how bad it was, we did see a lot more of Sark than usual and some people, though its hard to believe actually love Lauren :shudder:

This review of Resurrection on the BBC Cult site amused me:
| QUOTE |
Review: Alias - Resurrection It's the truly awful season conclusion.
Well, the less said about that the better. There are some episodes of television where it's kindest just to point and laugh.
Crime Against Logic, Number One:
It's a fun idea having Lauren disguise herself as Sydney to destroy the CIA base. But they go too far, and give her a body suit that miraculously makes her look *exactly* like our Syd. With the extra height and the gerbil cheeks and everything. We used to only be able to do that with the Fabulous Francie's Cloning Machine. Next season, Jack Bristow flies to Mars, disguised as Brad Pitt.
Crime Against Logic, Number Two:
Sydney uses the exact same Miracle Technology to convince Sark that she's Lauren. With a voice modulator and everything. Hatefully poo.
Crime Against Logic, Number Three:
Katya. Her character has changed completely - there's no reason for her to be working with Sark and Lauren, and yet she is. That's pure todge. Made worse by her bloodhound-like ability to track down Lauren to Vaughn's torture garden. How?
Crime Against Logic, Number Four:
Lauren's last words. If you'd just been shot by your worst enemy, and were falling to your death, would you yell out the combination to a safe? Or would you say something snippy?
Crime Against Logic, Number Five:
The cliffhanger. Syd's reading really old news and Jack appears from nowhere. Tish.
Meanwhile:
Sloane and Nadia skip off hand in hand, obviously to have jolly adventures in a much better TV show. |
Meeeeeow!

Somebody's in a bad mood... :alien:
willowroolz - August 18, 2004 08:08 AM (GMT)
It's a bit over the top, but I think it picks up a lot of the things we've already discussed - they're just trying to provoke a reaction. ;)
