Title: Torchwood News

Laura - February 12, 2008 06:19 PM (GMT)
Thought starting this thread might be a better idea than keeping adding to the S2 announced thread.

SFX has an interview with Gareth David-Llloyd (Ianto) in the March issue, complete with Ianto & stopwatch promo picture.

There will be a Torchwood convention in London in April called The Rift. Guests announced so far are James Marsters (Captain John Hart), Gareth David-Lloyd, Alan Dale (guest in 2x06) and producer Richard Stokes.

Burn Gorman interview.

Apparently 2x07 (the title of which I'm gonna white out because it's semi-spoilery - though probably only if you've been spoiled for the end of 2x06) Dead Man Walking will air on BBC Three after 2x06 airs on BBC 2.

The BBC have released two audiobooks with Hidden read by Naoko Mori (Tosh) and Everyone Says Hello read by Burn Gorman (Owen). There are also three books due for release on the 9th March - Something In The Water, Trace Memory & The Twilight Streets.

John Barrowman will be on Al Murray's Happy Hour on Friday night.

So much for the big thing of BBC2 getting the TW premiere :)

I think the BBC wants the bump in ratings for Martha's appearances so I don't know if it's going to just be for her three episodes . Bit random to do it halfway through a season though.

There will be a special one-off episode on BBC Radio 4 in May

Another highlight will be a special daylong broadcast from the Cern laboratory in Geneva when its groundbreaking particle accelerator is switched on later this year. The broadcast, anchored by Andrew Marr, will include live coverage of the moment the accelerator in a 27km tunnel is switched on, documentaries on its development and a made-for-radio edition of the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood.

Russell T Davies is happy for Torchwood characters to appear in Doctor Who should he come up with a suitable idea, he has revealed.

"I think the lines are becoming blurred... now that there's a pre-watershed Torchwood repeat," showrunner Davies told Doctor Who Magazine. "We're building a strong, coherent, interconnected universe... but the answer, as ever, is story. If ever I think of a good story for Doctor Who and Torchwood to meet then I'll do it."

Davies does have one caveat about this potential crossover: "The only limit, I think, would be having The Doctor appear in Torchwood itself. Because the 9 o'clock transmission comes first, that would be putting a children's hero into the wrong environment. But anything else is possible!"

Torchwood regulars Captain Jack Harkness and Toshiko Sato both made their first appearances in Doctor Who, featuring in the stories 'The Empty Child' and 'Aliens Of London' respectively. The Doctor's former companion Martha Jones, played by Freema Agyeman, will also star in several Torchwood episodes during the second series.

The unofficial overnight figures for Adam, are an audience of 3.3 million viewers, which was a 13.8% share of the total television audience. Both the audience and share are up on the figures for last week (as they weren't up against the footie this time)

Episode Six, Reset, which saw the introduction of Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) to the series, was shown on the digital channel, BBC3, immediately following Adam, where it was watched by 807,000 viewers, a 4.5% share of the audience. It will be interesting to see if this impacts the BBC2 showing next week.

Meanwhile, final figures from BARB give Episode Three, To the Last Man a final rating of 3.51 million viewers, putting it once more as the top programme shown on BBC2 for the week.

Dr Who's sidekick, Freema Agyeman

The actress, aged 28, who plays Martha Jones on God, the gym – and the virtue of a make-up teamLAURA DEELEY

You play Martha Jones, Dr Who’s plucky assistant; what’s it like joining such a popular TV institution?

Amazing. I’ve even had a doll made of me. That’s something I’ll never have again; I was blown away by the detail.

Did you have input into its design?

I did change the skin tone as it wasn’t dark enough.

Didn’t give yourself bigger boobs or a smaller backside then?

Proportion-wise they’d given me much longer legs... I thought I’d let that one go.

Is there anything you’d change about your body?

As long as I’m working out and can keep everything tight, I’m happy. But as I’m only just over 5ft, I’d whack a couple of inches on to my legs if I could.

What about a little injection moulding?

Botox? Never say never, but to be honest I’d be too scared after the chemical peel I had when I was 19.

That seems rather young

I had chicken pox when I was 15 and scarred badly. I thought that it would help.

Did it work?

It didn’t help at all and it burnt my skin terribly. Huge areas of my face scabbed over and, when they fell off, there was pink flesh underneath. Luckily, it all healed and I had no extra scarring. But I learnt a valuable lesson; I had got so hung up on this tiny thing, which nobody else noticed and could have permanently damaged my face.

So you’re not vain?

No, I don’t think so. But when I got the Dr Who job I thought I wouldn’t care if anyone saw me without make-up or with unbrushed hair. That changed.

Do you glam up to go to the supermarket?

No, but I make a bit of an effort. It’s not about being secretly papped, just that people notice you more if you’re on TV, so you might as well be prepared.

Do you ever get annoyed by the attention?

Not at all. It’s still exciting.

Are you a beauty boffin?

I do like my cosmetics and I’ve learnt a lot from the make-up people on set.

Such as?

Things like blending eye shadow and which products work well on me.

What would you recommend?

I switched to Aveda products. My skin was going through a pimply stage, which I thought was the result of wearing a lot of make-up every day. Now I think it was stress. My body was working harder than it had in ages and my skin showed the strain.

So how do you relax?

Massages and facials.

Gym bunny or couch potato?

Before I started the show I was at the gym four times a week for aerobics classes.

And now?

I still go when I’m not filming.

Does playing Martha keep you trim?

I thought that jumping about on set and having these 14-hour days would keep my stamina up, but when I went back to the gym after months of filming I realised how much it had dropped.

Your parents are divorced. Are you still close to them both?

Very. I put my family ahead of everything else.

Your mother’s from Iran and your father from Ghana. Have their cultures influenced you?
In a way, but being brought up here means that I’ve taken on the English culture. I would like to visit both countries, though, to explore their cultures and religions.

Are you a bit of a God botherer?

I do believe in God. My mum was brought up Muslim; my father is Methodist; and I went to a Roman Catholic school. When you come from a multifaith household, there are discussions at every point on how to do things.

Why Catholic?

We were brought up to make our own choices. I was interested in the convent school so I went there.

Still practise?

I think of myself as a Catholic, but fundamentally my religion is about having a relationship with God. For me that means being a good person. There was a time when I went to church a lot; I feel guilty that I can’t go as often as I like now.

How do you square that?

Well, the fundamentals of most religions are love and to treat people with respect. If I follow that I still feel like I’m a good Catholic.

Freema Agyeman is appearing in three episodes of Torchwood, the Dr Who spin-off, February 20, BBC Two, 9pm

Burn Gorman interview. Not really spoilers in there, just vague character stuff for 2x06.

And another one. This one tells us more about what he's going to be doing in the future.

I'm thinking that Burn Gorman seems to be taking a lot of the US based publicity stuff.

Hey I hope I'm putting this in right place? Anyway while I was in WH Smith and I noticed that Freema Agyeman was on the cover of TV & Satellite Week she gives an interview about her time on Torchwood. I had a quick look it seems a bit short but just thought I mention it in case it was of interest to anyone.

Here are some photos from their website I've had a look and don't think there is anything that could be classed as a spoiler judging by the trailer at the end of "Adam". click here

Gareth David-Lloyd interview (some vague spoilers for the rest of the season, nothing major).

AfterElton interviews Gareth David-Lloyd.

A wee (and very interesting) spoiler for episode 12 is in there on page 2. They state that Torchwood has been renewed by S3 but I don't think that there has been any official conformation (though with the ratings it's been getting I think it probably will be renewed).

If that's the news story I think it is (and I'm not gonna click because I'm determined to see the last four episodes as spoiler-free as possible), I got spoiled for that on another site while on my lunch today. Personally I don't believe it as I remember JB saying he's happy to keep going with the show and Burn Gorman and Gareth David-Lloyd have certainly mentioned filming S3 in recent interviews and I'm sure Naoko Mori and Eve Myles have during the early press stuff too.

He'll be a judge on I'd Do Anything starting the 15th March as they try to find a new Oliver for the west end.

He'll be on Hotel Babylon on the 25th March.
