Written by Helen Raynor (who wrote S1's Ghost Machine)
Toshiko falls for a handsome soldier, trapped out of his time, who unwittingly holds key to saving the world. With an old hospital haunted by ghosts from 1918, a crisis forseen by Torchwood 90 years ago is about to reach its climax. Time zomes are colliding and with life and death decisions to be made, will Torchwood be able to stop an explosive end for Cardiff?

tiny thing but i have to ask what calendar they are using because they show the date at the start of the episode as friday the 20th but 2007 the 20th was on a tuesday and in 2008 it will be on a wednesday :ponder:

so an other rift problem and well an other unlucky with relationship tosh episode

kind of funny 1918 torchwood team, i was wondering where jack was but i doubt torchwood wouldn't notice that one of their agent was working for them for a good century (on the other end  ). jack was obviously on the front line.

ianto didn't appear much in this episode (apart for bringing tea to tommy)

owen giving advice to tosh  (well he had to say goodbye to a time traveller last year ) still a good scene showing they are closer than in season one

gwen asking jack if they have more cute guys sleeping

next week trailer :o rhys

Torchwood's (and Doctor Who) timeline makes my head hurt. I think it's meant to be a few years in our future?

He still had more screentime than last year so , and I think he'll have a big part to play in the next couple of weeks.

I`m shocked to say I agree with you.

I`m finding Tosh much less drippy as well.

Loved Ianto`s face when he was told to fetch tea. :lmao:

Enjoyed the ep, got a bit :tear: towards the end. Bit disappointed that they didn`t have a Jack in the 1918 timeline. :)

:ermm: no they mentionned a few time that tommy had been sleeping for 90 years so 1918 + 90 = 2008 but then this is an alternative world known as TV show

I actually thought this was a good episode of Torchwood, which is rare for me. They did this storyline really well, we need more episodes like this.

IMO S2 just seems to be going from strength to strength

While I'm still unsure about the whole plot of the time shift and how the hell TW1918 knew exactly what to do I still loved the episode. I always preferred to more character-driven stories to the action-based ones tbh.

Tosh was so underdeveloped last season that it's nice that she's given another chance to shine in this episode. I'm liking the dynamic that's built up with Owen this season, it's a nice touch that he gives a warning about falling for people out of time after his breakdown last season. This is a bit weird to type, but Owen doesn't seem to be getting as much screentime this year. Or is it just that it's less noticable now he's actually nicer?

The Ianto/Gwen friendship is another thing that I would love to see continued through the season. After last week and this you get the feeling that they've really bonded during Jack's absense as the two who would probably miss him the most.

Jack/Ianto was just lovely. This season seems to have Jack being a lot more open about his past, I get the feeling that last year he would have greeted Ianto's question of whether he'd go home given the chance with a dodging of the topic.

Ianto's face after Tommy asked for tea was indeed very funny.
Oh, I'll be making it then will I

Meant to say that the official site now has 2x03 Making of segments on it. This week it includes John Barrowman on his way to work , Anthony Lewis (Tommy) on his Torchwood experience, Naoko Mori (Tosh) mainly talking about how wet it is & a bit on the prop warehouse.

The casefiles section has also been updated with little things from the episode. My favourite has to be the Torchwood Guide to avoiding Paradoxes :lmao:. Though the Torchwood 1918 tab really does show that nothing changes . Jack and Ianto's inboxes have also been updated.

Overnight ratings for the third episode of Torchwood’s second season came in at 3.2 million, slightly down on last week, and once again fourth in its slot. This week the powerhouse that is Grand Designs on Channel 4 was the winner with a hefty 4.7 million, but Torchwood wasn't too far behind ITV1 (Honest, 3.9 million) and BBC1 (What Women want, 3.7 million).

Meanwhile, final figures are in for the season’s first episode, "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" (which include the number of people of recorded it to watch it later) and show a very healthy increase to 4.22 million (up from 3.7 overnight). That makes it BBC2's most watched show that week (a million ahead of the channel's number two show, a documentary on Norman Wisdom) and the BBC's second most watched show so far this year after Louis Theroux Behind Bars (which was great, so we can’t grumble).

Ok episode.

I think they really are trying to make Owen more likeable this season so they really must of listened to what the fans ( or critics ) were saying about him but does somebody want to run that enormous CPD he came up with at the end past me again ? ;) Thats twice now, he must be Mr CPD this season. :)

Did anyone watch the pre-watershed cut ? I wondered if the Jack / Inato mega-snog made it uncut.

Convenient Plot Device.

Yeah the psychic projection thing was a bit too McGuffiny for me too, but I just ignored that .

I'd imagine the Jack/Ianto kiss was there in it's entirety, I haven't heard anyone comment elsewhere that it was cut. And tbh there's no reason that it would need cut.

but it would have been fun to sent jack in 1918, having him stuck there, the gang distraught and jack surprising everyone by entering the HQ by the secret entrance but then that would probably raise even more questions from the team

but then that would explain the information in the box (sealed and only to be opened by rift energy) because i wonder how 1918 torchwood team knew so much about tommy (all they knew was that they had to take other tommy out of the room and put him to sleep .... ) :ermm:

Well I would hope that it wouldn't be cut but you know how much people complain about such things.

Oh and just to correct myself Owen would of course be Dr CPD. ;)

I've seen one particularly horrible comment over on the BBC PoV website, though it's unclear whether or not it related to the post-watershed version or pre-watershed (though from his comment it probably wouldn't matter). RTD did say that same-sex kisses wouldn't be edited out, just violence and gore, and I'd hope that the BBC wouldn't put up with people complaining about it.

Owen does seem to be on a roll with creating the CPD's this season, he's not been given all that much to do otherwise . Or maybe it's just an obsession with injecting people's blood?
