Ep 1.01

Not bad. Not great. Very fast moving with tons of explosive action. Fans of the movie might be satisfied.

My biggest gripe is the utter helplessness of Sarah and John Connor. All they can do is run. Didn't Sarah prepare in any way in all those years?

My biggest postive reaction is to Lena Headey (Sarah Connor). This is my first exposure to her and she's very impressive. Tremendous looking with a stalwart presence. Now if they can make her more self-reliant and tough (more like Linda Hamilton's character in T2).

Thomas Dekker as John is maybe too boyish and he's a horrible runner so I hope he doesn't have to do that too much more.

Summer Glau got to show a little life in the beginning but when revealed as an android, she became robotic -- like in FIREFLY but without the looniness. Frankly, it's boring even if she has the more dynamic role.

As usual, the mean Terminator is the best role. No acting required. Welsh actor Owain Yeoman played one in the pilot but I hear someone else took over the role after that.

The story was good enuf to keep me interested. The dialog was functional. It did have a nifty resolution.

This was only the pilot. I hope they applied some polish to the subsequent ones.

Most of this episode was set in New Mexico which spawned this trivial coincidence: Guesting as a Deputy Sheriff is New Mexico-born Nick Wechsler who was a regular cast member of the teen scifier ROSWELL (a real-life town in NM) as the Sheriff's son Kyle. (Fortunately that wasn't the most exciting thing about the show.)

Ep 1.02.

 Much better. The story had some depth, some sophistication even. Sarah was more proactive and had more dimensions. John, despite being a little reckless, was less boyish. Summer Glau seems to be settling into her character and doing a better job (and being helped by the script).

My only fear now is that they've settled into one location.

Darris - January 15, 2008 06:28 PM (GMT)
Kyle Wechsler was in it? I didn't notice, I shall have to watch it again as he was quite good in Roswell. I thought the pilot was ok and I am keen to seen how the rest of the show develops.

Ep 1.03

Pretty static. Best scenes were the ones with the bad android. Hated Summer's scenes where she played the socially awkward high schooler. Too many shows have already done that joke to death.

Frankly, it's stupid to send John to school. It gives the bad guys a better chance of finding him. But, settling down in one city is not a good idea either. Yet, that's probably what has happened.

The young man instantly attracted to Sarah is easier to believe now that Lena is playing her.

Enjoyed this ep.

A change of pace from the first two and showed that the show can survive without John being in imminent danger every week.

What annoyed me was the way that the Summer Glau character seemed to fit in to the high school so well in the first episode but not in this one

I like the reasoning I've seen in a couple of places that Cameron had been specifically programmed/had months to prepare to find and protect John (she pretty much only interacted with him at the first school) whereas here she was thrown in at the deep end.

Ep 1.04

An action-packed story strung together pretty well, dramatically speaking. Lena's performance was surprisingly flat -- but it's not a detriment -- especially when she's looking so good.

Ep 1.05

Good with some nice twists.

I didn't care much for the FBI agent arch from the start. It was boring and the actor was boring. But it makes sense to have him dramatically. It ups the stakes. But primarily, he represents the other danger to the O'Connors. While they focus on the threats from the future, their lives necessarily draws attention from the less ominious contemporary police agencies.

Ep 1.06.

I wasn't looking forward to any flash-forwards to the future, but this wound up to be an excellent story  both in itself and as part of the larger arc. Brian Austin Green does a commendable job in this and last week's episode as the future man.

an ok first episodet with an explosive start, great to have some characters from T2 back (the technician family)

the terminator was ok but the "joke" of having him run over twice (i was expecting a third time  ), too slow to react or it failed to learn that when the good guy are in a car, it never a good idea to be in their way

 @ Summer glau, too bad she lost some of the friendly attitude she had when meeting john

lena headey is not "muscle" hamilton but she is doing a good job with the character

Ep 1.07

This episode moved the storyline forward but without much excitement.

Most of the action in this one was Summer Glau dancing ballet (no need to remind the members of this board that she was a professional and lead ballet dancer).

And there's Bruce Davison just a couple weeks after his role in the new KNIGHT RIDER demonstrating his acting range -- here, he's a slightly crazed old man who knew Sarah Connor back when.

This is proving to be a show for good actors. The regulars and the guests.

Not a bad start to the series and even though by the end I was gagging to see the next episode, I felt it could use a lot of improvements.

I personally didn't think much of the Terminator so I'm glad to hear he's been replaced. Not exactly sure why the Terminator was hiding his pistol in his leg? I'm sure he could have carried it inconspicuously some other way, although I suspect they perhaps originally intended to have the Terminator bringing back a weapon from the future. Something we may see later?

One thing I didn't like was just before the Terminator went out of the window of the classroom after John, he turns to the kids and says something like class is out. To me that just didn't seem right.

Another big negative for me was after Summer glau's Terminator electrocuted the chasing Terminator why didn't she finish him off before he rebooted ?

Agree PG it was a nice touch to have the family from T 2 although I have to admit I was scratching my head wondering if it was the same actors?

I really liked the ending however it's left me wondering what happened to their clothes, the futuristic gun, the Time Machine, the Terminator and any other leftover future technology? Was this explained or had I had one too many beers? If it wasn't that could have some major implications for the future although surely they wouldn't be that sloppy having been planning and building all these devices since the early Sixties?

I liked the little mention of Sarah Connor dying of cancer in whatever year it was, as in Terminator 3. I wonder though will we see that Sarah Connor has faked her death perhaps leaving it open for her character to return in the forthcoming 2nd Terminator Trilogy movies?

That was an attempt at a joke but there was too much action and the joke fell flat.

You can't kill off the main bad guy!

prophecy girl - February 27, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
maybe she calculate the percentage of success between trying to take the chip out of the bad guy or try to run away in the very short time she had before the terminator rebooted and took the safest decision

I could see it was a joke but to me it seems as if they're trying to give the Terminator a personality, lighten him up. When he should be cold, ruthless, methodical , single-minded machine.... At least in my personal opinion.

No you don't kill off the main bad guy but equally you need to have a reason why you're going to retreat when you're going to have fewer better opportunities. In the meantime she let a relentless enemy have another attempt at killing John.

I hear what you're saying PG that she had limited time but at the very least I would have thought she could have disabled him further. For example ripping off his leg to prevent him walking. Surely in (was it 140 seconds?) the Reboot time a Terminator should be able to inflict the serious amount of damage upon another Terminator while they offer no resistance??

This has gone past the point of productive analysis for me.

I can understand that these things bother you even tho they didn't bother me. I was disappointed by other elements in the episode. We have different rationales and different thresholds.

Season 1 Finale

This was aired as a 2-parter altho it could easily have been aired over two weeks since this is no more tightly woven than any other two episodes.

I found them somewhat lackluster but still good enuf to keep my interest up.

Summer Glau's cyborg is getting the clever dialog now. Everyone else is sober and intense. Can they borrow James Callis, please?

There's a nice emotional surprise near the end. And a less-then-hanging cliff-hanger ending.

Darris - March 8, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
I have just seen The Demon Hand and after realising Summer was in the Angel episode Waiting In The Wings I thought it was funny she should appear in this attending a ballet class.

I take it by showing the little piece of dance she did at the end this was to enphasise that she is learning the more she interacts with humans?

I am interested to see the finale after the teaser that was given at the end.

TV Yank - March 9, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
Executive Producer seems to be infatuated with Summer and no doubt wanted to give her an opportunity to show off her dancing skills.

The dancing at the ending could be interpreted in at least a couple ways. First, like you said, that she's becoming more human. The second is more complicated. At the same time Cameron was seen dancing, Sarah has a voiceover saying something about Man's superiority to cyborgs found in their appreciation for art and saying omininously that machines ever do come to that point, they will "be us" -- which might be interpreted as "supplanting humans" -- and suggesting that Cameron has reached that point.
