Title: Robin Hood

Couldn't find a topic board for Robin Hood on here, and wanted to discuss the fact that a third series is in fact in production to be broadcast next year.
For those who haven't seen the finale of season two, and don't want to know what happens I would suggest not scrolling down the page.
SPOILERS BELOW.
Now they killed off Marian, which I could not believe and therefore assumed that it was the end of the show, although the Sheriff and Guy did escape. Now I read on wikipedia that a third series is currently in production. Now without a Marian, I think that is going to be a problem.
Also this brings to light the 'issues' which shows have like Doctor Who and its companions. I found out that they had to kill Marian, why? The beautiful Lucy Griffiths ( ) wants to pursue other roles.
What in the name of King Richard The Third is going on at the BBC are they just dumb or are they completely incompotent??
Over in America, we hardly ever see the main cast members change, in fact even David Ducovny stuck around in some capacity until the end of ten series of The X Files.
What is the procedure at the BBC in relation to talent and contracts because for whatever reason it seems very lax? It seems like people can walk in and out of shows whenever they feel like, and the BBC seems to bend over backwards to let them leave.
I really don't see how they can continue the series, without a Marian, and introducing a new love interest will ruin the whole mythology. I seriously think that they should have thought about recasting.
Although if I was running the BBC, this wouldn't happen. If this happened I would guarantee the actress/actor quitting the show would never work for the corporation again. Proper contracts should be drawn up, ensuring that talent is kept for the show and the BBC, and to ensure quality programming. It seems the BBC is being used, they are putting actors and actresses in the limelight and are repaid with disloyalty and dissent. I predict series 3 will be the last for Robin Hood, I seriously doubt it will survive without a strong female presence, and replacing Marian with another love interest is treason.
Just wondered what other peoples thoughts were about this, or am I being too harsh?

Yeah, Jason Connery did do a great job in my view when he took over, but only time will tell if they can do this show without a Marian.....

they will probably introduce a long lost cousin of marian <_< but it won't be really the same thing as marian (unless they do a lot of flashbacks  )

I think it's difficult to compare the situation to the US where they are able to get actors to commit to long term contracts by paying them enormous amounts of money which the BBC doesn't have and which they probably shouldn't spend that way anyway plus it's a different culture I mean even most soap actors over here only tend to be on 6 or 12 month contracts. Also you just have to accept that its human nature that actors/writers ( particulary the better ones ) will want to do and try diffferent things - John Simm didn't want to do anymore Life on Mars and DT will want to something other than playing the Doctor.
Oh and just to say I didn't watch any of the 2nd season of Robin Hood but I'm very impressed that they killed off Marion, I mean when you're faced with a problem like that fair play to them for doing the brave and much more creative thing of killing her off.

Well if they can pay Jonathan Ross £13 million a year, least they could do in situations like this, is get out their cheque book as this is going to negatively effect the show. I don't think this can be compared to Life on Mars though as that was an original story, an adaptation of Robin Hood has expectations, killing off Marian certainly isn't one of them.
Having Marian die has severe complications. First of all its writing the history of the myth in a extreme way, this is not expected nor wanted by the vast majority of the viewing public.
This is a family show, and this has got ALOT of parents riled up. I've been looking at other boards and many are discusted with the death of Marian. This show was supposed to be suitable for children and brutally murdering the feminine of the show was not expected by parents who then had to explain to their children why it doesn't match up with the traditional story and why there is no happy ending.
Fair enough it was brave, but it was also stupid. One thing you should never do is anger the viewer.
Overall I think this has killed the show, just as it was getting into its stride. The first series was a little bit on/off for me but this year up until the last 10 minutes of the finale it seemed to be finding itself a little more.
I'm going to give the third season a try when it comes back, but unless it becomes darker and a tale of wanting revenge. I don't see how it can be realistic. Robin being cordial with Guy and The Sheriff after they killed Marian just wouldn't happen. I might even like it if it goes in a certain direction. Its just I'm angered that a cast member has been allowed to interefere with the direction they would have gone if she hadn't decided to leave which probably would have been more true to the original story and not of angered and saddend alot of children  .
