Title: New Frontier
ken1701e - July 24, 2004 09:24 AM (GMT)
Just finished book 1!!!!
What a great book and a great start to the series. M'k'n'zy or Mackenzie Calhoun seems to be a fascinating character - shame I have not got books 2-4!!!
Should have know how good this would be after all it is a Peter David creation - they should get him writing for the tv series.

Just ordered myself that omnibus edition from Amazon (first time I have ever bought from there believe it or not!!) I know it means I will have the first one twice but it was cheaper than going out and buying books 2-4 on their own.
Also ordered Dadeleus Children...(Going to start reading the first one of those tonight!!!!)

Did you order them new from Amazon, or "New & Used" from their marketplace Ken ??
The marketplace is brilliant, you can pick books up there dirt cheap, used and new.
As I mentioned before, I picked up one of the Blade Runner novels for 1p

It doesn't really take much more effort anyway Ken. Simply select the item you're interested in, and when it pulls up that item for you to buy, there'll be a "used and new" section. Just click on that and it'll pull them up for you. Dead easy ;)

Will have a proper look next time.
Started reading DAEDALUS tonight!!
ken1701e - July 25, 2004 06:22 PM (GMT)
Bought Book 6 - FIRE ON HIGH in a cheap shop in scarborough and the first hardback STONE AND ANVIL from Waterstones!!!!
ken1701e - July 25, 2004 07:35 PM (GMT)
STONE AND ANVIL comes with a free cd rom with 16 NEW FRONTIER stories on - The first 12 books as well as the captains table new frontier story and the episodes from DOUBLE HELIX and GATEWAYS that involve the NEW FRONTIER cast!!!!
ken1701e - August 8, 2004 08:51 AM (GMT)
Finished the first four books, what an excellent read. It is a shame this has never become a filmed series with
PETER DAVID writing for it because that would put
STAR TREK back where it belongs at the top of the pile.
Will start reading book 5 tonight!!!!!
jamiearmour - August 9, 2004 07:30 AM (GMT)
Well, keep going Ken  The doctor and myself highly recommend this series of books to anyone who will listen to us :) There are many, many more surprises in store and a few "blasts from the past" to be enjoyed by trek fans of old :D

Taking me a while to get into book 5, dont know why. Probably spending too much time on this board or playing PRO EVO.
Begining of next month going to buy all the ones I havent already got though. I know I have already got them on the free cd rom that came with the hardback I bought recently but thats not the same as actually holding a book!!!

The New Frontier novels have a couple of things going for them. Firstly in Peter David they have one of the best authors possible creating them, better yet that he's got bags of experience in the Trek novel stakes. Secondly, do you think they benefit because people can't read them and then compare them to any onscreen characters ?? Not to a great extent anyway. I know a common problem with the TNG novels, particularly to begin with was that the characters were completely at odds with their onscreen counterparts.
Either way, the NF novels seem very promising from what little I've read thus far. Top tip though.
