i accidently had a party at my friends flat and i runined the wooden lounge table by leaving ice cream on it which went all sticky and melted so i used flash spray on it , leaving it overnight, without reading the bottle.

now i have wiped it off the varnish has come with it so there is a massive patch which does not match the rest.

whoopsey :o

he hasnt seen it yet and i have 48 hours befoe he is back

If you have 48 hours, do you have time to re-varnish it? No idea how long this type of thing takes, but that would seem to be the ideal solution?

do i just get any varnish from b&q or something, or do i have to sandpaper it etc? how will i know it will match??

thanks

Sounds like the best bet is to just get down to B&Q, and ask them.

Worst case scenario, just do the whole table. Varnish is transparent so it won't be like they'll notice it's a different colour or anything ;)

Just how do you Accidently have a party at a friends flat...... :ponder:

As for the table......I dont know too much about wood treatments....but, I would have thought the best way would be to sand the whole thing lightly an revarnish the whole surface.....but it sounds like you dont have time for that.......you could try several applications of something like 'Pledge'........it has a kind of polish/varnish in it so it could help.....but a lot depends on the type of varnish the table was done with originally.........

I know this is probably not very helpful but does anyone remember a television advert for the Yellow Pages where the young lad calls for a varnisher after leaving a massive scratch in the table after a wild party. Maybe that is an option if you are willing to fork out a significant sum. sk

Jeez....thats going back a bit..... ;)

I think in that ad he calls a 'French polisher'........That is the problem EP has, it all depends on what the original treatment was as to how best to rectify the damage......

Perhaps a strategically placed potpourri bowl might be in order......

thanks guys

i actually did use a table cloth to hide the damage and it has not been noticed yet, so i am waiting for the weekend to start my re-varnish mission as will have a couple of days whilst he is away again

mwah ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaa :lmao:

i might even have a 're-varnishing'-party to commererate the occassion :yahoo:

or maybe not such a good idea.........
