New Thursday Book planned for 2009. The Sixth in the Thursday Next series will be out in July 2009 and is tentatively titled: "One of Our Thursdays is missing". Continuing the story soon from where "First Among Sequels" left off, Jurisfiction has serious problems: With a Serial Killer on the loose, Speedy Muffler declaring all-out Genre war and aggressive book-pulpers threatening to turn entire libraries into MDF self-assembly furniture, only ace book-jumper Thursday Next can save the day. But where the hell is she? Last seen investigating the theoretical Dark Reading Matter, the place - where it is conjectured - erased and forgotten books end up, Thursday is nowhere to be found. With time running out, Jurisfiction decides that you need a Thursday to find a Thursday, so they persuade Thursday5, comfortably getting to grips with the hastily rewritten TN series, to look for the real Thursday in the one region she fears more than anything else - A place of chaos, unpredictability and unresolved plot lines: The Real World

No new Fforde book for 2008. Following discussions with UK and US publishers it has been decided to delay publication of "Shades of Grey" until July 2009. The reasons are twofold: First to allow me more time to finish the book and have a baby. Secondly, to enable us to get back on to a more conventional schedule - that of delivering a year before publication to allow lead time for marketing and publicity. My apologies to everyone for the delay - but releasing me from the "just in time" writing schedule wll have long term benefits for book quality (I hope) and production schedules. +++

New three-book deal signed, sealed and delivered. Yes, like it not, you've got Fforde for at least three more years. Following joyous and painless negotiations, Penguin and Hodder and Stoughton have both agreed a new three-book deal with Fforde, their fourth deal in seven years. Books eight, nine and ten are contractually: "Shades of Grey", "unnamed Thursday Next Novel" and "untitled", each to be published in July 2008, 2009, and 2010. +++

New series on the cards from Fforde in 2008. Following on from his 'Thursday Next' and 'Nursery Crime' series, Fforde has bravely branched out into new territory: Books that are not metafiction. In a shocking statement to the world's media, British author and former teenager Jasper Fforde announced that he would be 'making up all his own characters' for a three-part saga, the first of which is due to be published in July 2008. "I'll be using all my own characters in this next book," he said, "and not appropriating them from popular fiction." This radical departure for the famed non-winner of the Whitbread prize decided on the unprecedented step to 'stretch himself' and 'try something new'. The new series which goes by the name of 'Shades of Grey' is still heavily under wraps but will feature a bizarre dystopian view of the future that mixes Stalinism, British Public School, Linoleum factories and limited Colour vision. "But don't worry," said Fforde at his rambling seventeen-bedroom Welsh Mansionette yesterday, "it will still be pretty silly." +++

Oooh, we`re getting a new series next year. I think.

In 2006 Jasper Fforde said:

"The Thursday Next series has four books, so the next book I'm going to be writing is five, so we're going to go back to her for a book and after that I don't know, I might experiment with a new series or two. It's an exciting time because I don't know what's going to come out in 09. I am going to have a book for 09 but I don't know what it's about, and that's very exciting because where is it, right now? It's going to be there in two years time but it's not here now. I pledged a book a year for 10 years to try and get established and that finishes in four years and I said to myself that I could have a year off then. So I'm looking forward to that."[6]

Fforde recently stated that there will be "No new Fforde book for 2008"[7], and publication of the first novel in his new "A Shades of Grey" series is now planned for July 2009, having been originally announced by publishers as available in summer 2008[8]. According to the (less recent) First Among Sequels Special Features section on Fforde's website, the sixth Thursday Next novel, entitled One of our Thursdays is Missing, was also scheduled to be published in 2009[9].

Fforde also plans a third Nursery Crime novel, The Last Great Tortoise Race:  :o

"The Last Great Tortoise Race will be the third and final installment of the NCD series. I have no idea when it will be written, or published."[10]
