Title: Boreanaz clashes with 'Bones' co-star
BouncyCastle - December 20, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
David Boreanaz has admitted that he often struggles to get along with his Bones co-star Emily Deschanel.
The actor, who plays F.B.I. Special Agent Seeley Booth on the crime drama, revealed that Emily (Temperance Brennan) is sometimes too outspoken for his liking.
"We drive each other crazy and tell each other so. There are days when we show up and don't get on too well, but we use it in the scenes," Boreanaz told Metro.
Asked why they sometimes annoy each other, David explained: "I'm constantly poking her shoulder and getting under her skin. I think it's part of my job. She's very opinionated. I could be talking to a director or producer and she'll put her two cents in. It's annoying and I've told her about it, but she keeps on doing it."
You go, Emily. You go, girl!

I must admit, I do find the character somewhat annoying (sometimes) on the series. I'm not entirely sure if that's because of the way the character's written or whether it's just Emily Deschanel.
Love the series though

I love it, though they have taken out some stuff that was in the books - ie she has a daughter with Pete.
Not to mention there's a cat and a big Chow dog in the mix somewhere too!
Still, no doubt Kathy Reichs has given the thumbs up.
I noticed in the back of one of the books that reference was made to the TV show, and it's apparently set earlier in her life, before the books start.

It's quite strange. They've started releasing novels based on the series as well now, hence you've got the Reichs set of original (and ongoing) novels, and then you have the series-related ones as well. It could all get very confusing!
Don't know if you've seen the S1 DVDs, but there's an interview with Kathy Reichs on there.

I've got the S1 and S2 DVDs, but can't remember watching an interview with KR. Maybe I'll have to dig them out again!!
I've read a couple of articles recently that David B. is a really arrogant git. He won't talk about Buffy/Angel, even though it made him what he is today (his acting CV was non-existent before he got the Buffy gig), and at a press interview he showed himself up by not knowing that there was a whole series of books before the TV show was a gleam in Hart Hanson's eye!

Angel's the best thing he'll ever be in. To try and shrug that off is a little silly of him. A shame really, I like him as an actor but when you hear stories like that one it has a way of detracting from any acting abilities he may have and that's surely detrimental to any show in which he appears.

In the "60 Second Interview" with him in todays Metro which features the above he certainly comes across as an arrogant twat. It's fairly clear the interviewer thought so

Ooooh. I'll have to look for that.

He`s doing himself no favours, is he.
Erm, and I always think of Emily as the star of the show.

Here it is...
Actor David Boreanaz is best known as the crime-fighting vampire Angel who debuted in Buffy The Vampire Slayer before having his own spin-off show. Grumpy Dave doesn't like talking about it, though; he's all about his new detective show Bones, in which he plays FBI officer Seeley Booth. Bones finishes its run on Sky tonight, with a new series starting in February.
What is the appeal of police crime scene shows like this?
Ours is a little bit different from the others, it’s not all about the procedural level. For me, it’s all about the characters. The procedural stuff is secondary, but a lot of people like that. I can’t shut it out, even though I’d like to.
Isn’t all the dialogue about the dead bodies a bit of a chore?
Not for me, that applies to people who play the scientists. Sometimes I have to recite FBI jargon, which can be annoying, but I just write it on the desk. I know what I’m talking about subtextually, but I don’t really care about the other s***.
You’re a producer on the show now. What difference does that make?
There’s more emphasis on the character and storyline. I pride myself on my character. It hasn’t really changed my approach because my passion has always been invested in the show. The responsibility is to the character and how it develops.
What’s it like doing all your scenes with co-star Emily Deschanel?
It’s a lot of work because we’re in every scene together, but that’s what drives the characters. I like that. It enhances the chemistry.
Do you get sick of the sight of each other?
Oh, yeah. We drive each other crazy and tell each other so. There are days when we show up and don’t get on too well, but we use it in the scenes.
How do you annoy each other?
I’m constantly poking her shoulder and getting under her skin. I think it’s part of my job. She’s very opinionated. I could be talking to a director or producer and she’ll put her two cents in. It’s annoying and I’ve told her about it, but she keeps on doing it.
Why did you want to be an actor to begin with?
I enjoy the escapism and the exercise of emotion, of getting things out that you might have experienced the day before, or a month ago. Those are the things I use in my subtext.
When did you realise you were any good at it?
I still don’t think I am. I keep fooling them, but as long as the pay cheque clears I don’t mind.
What was the first acting job you got?
The sitcom Married With Children when I was 23. It was pretty scary, but the other people in the scene messed their lines up first, which helped my confidence. Before that, I was just doing plays and commercials.
What’s the worst job you’ve had?
I worked in a posh sports club for a couple of days. I got fired when I kicked a door down. I kicked it down because the key wasn’t working.
Were you tempted to become a weatherman like your dad?
No. My dad just reads the weather, he isn’t exactly a ‘weatherman’ like a meteorologist. He started in radio and had his own talk show and now he reads the weather in Philadelphia.
After the critically derided slasher flick Valentine, would you star in another horror film?
Yes, if it was psychologically correct. When I did Valentine, it was a studio picture and it worked in my schedule, I only had a few weeks to shoot it. It was a great experience.
Did Buffy fans send you any weird presents?
No, they didn’t. Any fan is a great fan to have.
Was it frustrating to play one character like Angel for so many years?
No. [Mumbles something].
What’s the best thing about coming from Philadelphia?
That Floyd Mayweather Jr kicked your boy’s ass the other day. [Actually Mayweather is from Michigan].
Did you watch the fight?
I didn’t need to. I was amazed by how delusional you guys were thinking that Ricky Hatton had a chance against Mayweather.
Crichton Kicks - December 20, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
It's a shame that we can't line him up as Ricky's next opponent. What a pretentious twat.
BouncyCastle - December 20, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
He'd probably only get his stunt double to stand in for him! :whistling:
Crichton Kicks - December 20, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
Ricky could probably take them both!
BouncyCastle - December 20, 2007 03:33 PM (GMT)
True, assuming of course that he's instantly capable of doing karate kicking, running up walls, etc!
It's the only way to fight, ya know? :whistling:
Crichton Kicks - December 20, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
He's the modern day equivalent of Bill Shatner, who thinks that every fight has to involve some sort of flying dropkick!

DENNY CRANE :ph43r:
Crichton Kicks - December 20, 2007 04:22 PM (GMT)
I used to love Denny's little comments to the press as he walked into/out of the courtroom. I think my favourite one was "Denny Crane.....pop goes the weasel"

DB probably thought that he could do the same jokes he was doing on the buffy/angel sets but then he was one of the lead (well on angel he was), differents shows, different people

He's a producer on the show now ? Oh dear  I do worry when the 'star' starts wanting to write, direct or produce the show.
It's funny I saw some of the Graham Norton show he was on and I thought he seemed quite nice.

Kevin Sorbo/Andromeda springs to mind, which isn't exactly the best track record.

wasn't DB in charge of Soul purpose (angel season five episode)? maybe he didn't have much to say on the script  but for his directorial debut, that was not great <_<
TV Yank - December 24, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
It may not be real obvious but I detect it: a goofiness in David (springing from insecurity, maybe) that emerges as attitude. I've known lots of of guys like that. He's the type who'll say "I didn't know this was based on a book series" as a joke, not knowing that there are many people who don't recognize it as a joke becuz they can't read his sense of humor. Nothing I've read so far -- in his interviews -- strikes me as insufferably arrogant. He comes across to me like a defiant little boy -- even in his performances (I should add: who switches to "just kidding" and chummy in the next instant).
If you look closely at many, if not most shows, the star is given producer credit. I think it's a way of enticing them to the series, but giving them a certain amount of control. And, I suspect, they get more money, especially in syndication in DVD sales. You'll notice, David really didn't answer the question about his producer role.
As for who draws the viewers to BONES -- who's the star of the show -- David had the bigger name when the show started. But now, I suspect that Deschanel has gained some reputation to put her on par in Boreanaz, as has the supporting cast. BONES has become a prime example of an ensemble piece. David is right in thinking that the relationships are paramount in this show, but the story is stronger if it is based on solving crimes rather than set in Wisteria Lane.
As for the boxing match, imagine the posts that might have cropped up in this messageboard if the fight went the other way.
