Title: Lack of Nintendo Wii s
Description: Help

laughitupfuzzball - November 25, 2007 09:32 AM (GMT)
My little lad has got his heart set on a Wii :ermm: there haven't been any in the shops for ages and I doubt any are going to come in before Xmas so I think I'll have to get one from Ebay :(

If anyone has one they want to sell or know of anywhere I could try let me know :D

Aww !

Alex, I was surprised ( not being a gamer ;) ) that they`re not available here at the mo.

So I had a look on Amazon, and one of the posters said they`re available on amazon.de - Cleeeck - dunno if that helps - according to the poster, you just need a travel adaptor plug ( no idea if that`s true or not ... ) :)

Perhaps have a look on Amazon.fr and ask Claire for advice ?

Might be an idea to keep an eye on this page, Alex:

Wii stock locator

Good luck :)

Won't work - if you try to buy an Wii from one of the European Amazon sites they won't ship it to the UK.

To be honest I'm surprised there's such a shortage of them - over here in Canada they're quite easy to get hold of (but apparently not in the US!)...

Meanies. <_<

laughitupfuzzball - November 25, 2007 08:46 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys, I know a lot of them that were allocated to the Uk were stolen  probably why there are so many on Ebay and judging by the Stock locator a lot of mobile phone companies have got them.

I'm going to keep using that though, thanks Steve :)

willowroolz - November 26, 2007 09:41 AM (GMT)
Those places that have them in stock are taking the piss, as well. Simply Games have it in stock this morning and they're charging nearly £200 over the RRP, and the only extra they're including is Mario Galaxy!

Yes it looks like Dixons and Currys were doing the same thing <_< I wonder what Trading standards would make of that :ponder: despicable :guns:

My local Curry's haven't had them in since launch, and I don't live in a tiny town. I've been trying to get a hold of one since September/October and no local stores have any :ermm:. Going to wait until after Christmas to see if I can get one.

Michelle - November 27, 2007 09:18 AM (GMT)
Our joint xmas pressie to each other this year is a Wii, and thankfully we decided to order in mid Oct, expecting there to be shortages nearer Christmas.

It was still difficult enough to get one then though, having to place an order with Blockbuster games (formally gamestation), and not knowing when that would come in. At the same time, Tom must have been lucky to catch some stock on Amazon and ordered one from there too. Of course, they both ended up coming through at the same time, so we had 2 Wiis in the house at one point, but it didn't take much effort at all to sell one of them onto Tom's mate at the same price.

Hope you have luck in your quest, Alex. :) I'm sure even if you can't get one before xmas, there will be a bit more stock in the new year.

Bill The Bloodless - November 27, 2007 12:00 PM (GMT)
A mate from football had the same problem but he left his name with a number of stores and managed to get one a couple of weeks back. He did have problem with one though (Toys R Us i think) who would only sell it as part of a bundle with some naff games.

little pixie - November 27, 2007 02:11 PM (GMT)
I watched a Sopranos ep from a couple of days ago, and they were 2 adverts for Wii in the breaks - Seems odd that they`re still being pushed if they`re not going to have some available.

laughitupfuzzball - November 27, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
I know  I think most of the ads are for specific games though, makes me tut whenever I see them

I've been thinking of leaving my name with some stores  I've signed up for email updates from quite a few stores.

I can't really wait until after Christmas though as Robbi has asked Santa for one

Thanks for the advice

melian - November 27, 2007 07:08 PM (GMT)
My friends husband is after one for christmas too, they were told that if they got to Game early on a saturday morning and queued up that they might have a chance. Turns out that they only have 1 or 2 delivered at a time and they tell everyone the same thing so unless you get there at 6am there is no chance <_<

Phillip Culley - November 27, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
Well, my brother got hold of one today, so there is hope for the UK :)

Michelle - November 28, 2007 01:33 PM (GMT)
Tom just sent me a link to this, which is shocking!

However, not as shocking as this! :o

I had a quick watch on some of the ebay auctions for wii consoles that finished 5 mins ago, and they seem to be going for anywhere from £255 to £280, which is not actually as bad as I expected. Perhaps in the daytime is a quieter time to bid? Obviously postage is quite pricey though at around £25.

Bloody hell :o :o

Edit: Got to wonder about the winning bidder - Job-Blow-A-Me-Give... Hmm, I smell a rat :ponder:

He's importing them from Spain, by the looks of it.

One of his other consoles has 2 hours left at auction and it's only £41 (plus £25 postage  ) at the moment, but I have my doubts as to how legit it is, given that name of the first buyer

Gamers angry at 'rip-off' Wii bundles
Friday, November 30 2007, 12:43 GMT

By David Gibbon, Gaming Reporter

As the chronic Wii shortage continues on the high street, retailers have come under fire from gamers for selling the Wii console only to those buyers willing to fork out extra for a games bundle.

Research carried out by MCV has found some retailers will only sell Wii consoles as part of a games bundle costing £400, which is more than double the cost of the standalone system.

The trade paper found Gamestation, Zavvi, HMV, Toys R Us and Woolworths stores refused to sell a standalone console, selling them only as part of games bundle, charging from £250 for a two-game pack at HMV to a £400 five-game bundle at Gamestation.

There has been outrage across online gaming forums, with one member stating: "I've just been out to buy a Nintendo Wii and found I couldn't buy just the console, but I was asked to buy a Wii with games I didn't even want. With the Wii shortage, retailers are ripping people off by forcing them to buy games with the console so they can get as much money out of the customer as possible."

Well in desparation I've signed up for a mobile phone contract as they have promised to deliver one 14 days after activation (which should be Monday) that should leave me time to wriggle out of it if they don't hold up their end of the deal. I hate doing it but it seems the only way I can get one. :guns:

It is disgusting and I just refuse to pay any more than their normal retail price.

Who've you used, Alex? Only problem that you've got is that the reason they post it out after 14 days is that's usually your change of mind period.

Carphone warehouse :ermm: one of the only places that has shown any stock

I did need a new phone but given the choice I would have gone for a Viewty, so worth it if I manage to get a wii though. Fingers and everything crossed.

At least CPW are likely to hold up their end of the bargain, not a fan of them myself but that's more to do with their sales style than anything else.

Nintendo mulls pulling Wii TV ads

Nintendo is considering pulling UK television advertising for its popular Wii console in the run up to Christmas because it is battling to meet demand.
It said that holding back adverts until to 2008 would be a "responsible" move.

It now expects to have sold 17.5 million of the consoles worldwide in the year to March 2008 - up from the 14 million it had earlier forecast.

Nintendo is likely to use its advertising slots to promote its handheld DS console, analysts say.

'Act responsibility'

Globally, the firm is able to make about 1.8 million of the Wii consoles every month.

But it said that the demand had been "unprecedented and higher than Nintendo could ever have anticipated".

"We are doing everything possible to supply continued levels of stock and meet demand as quickly as possible," the spokesman added.

"As we are keen to act responsibly we are potentially looking at moving some advertising on some products into early 2008."

It is understood that because the television commercials do not have a festive flavour, they will be able to be used next year.

Demand for the Wii could mean disappointment for those putting it at the top of their Christmas list.

High Street retailers are struggling to keep up with demand and websites have been set up to help shoppers find out when stock becomes available.

Last month Sony said that it was taking advantage of Nintendo Wii shortages and a recent price cut of its PlayStation 3 console to double weekly sales of the PlayStation in the US.

Story from BBC NEWS:

laughitupfuzzball - December 7, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
So they should  I've been told that there is a shortage of reasonably prices DS's now too though so they'd better not promote them too much either.

So far I have been reassured again that I will get it before Xmas - fingers crossed smiley needed

It is a Sony Ericsson W810i I think, a walkman one :) very nice but as I said it wouldn't have been my first choice.

They're good reliable phones, and they don't have the annoyingly fiddly buttons that Sony Ericsson have started putting on their new models.

I don't know what the fuss was about got mine about a week ago. Game and Gamestation had them but they wanted to try a flog crap with it. No I'm not interested in MySims Pets or some unoffical charging station!!! and paying £389.99. But we went in 'Zavvi' (still only letting you buy with a bundle but you could choose the games which is better) and they told us they might be getting some in the following day.

Popped in the next day got one straight away. Problem is the same as with the Gamecube though. Nintendo seems to have a problem with supplying the games still. A new release game like Mario Galaxy will go out of stock in a matter of hours from going on the shelves, and even online. Got Paper Mario with it instead with Rayman Raving Rabbids, Strikers Charged and Mortal Kombat.

Amazon just got some Mario Galaxy's in stock the other day, but its still happening 4 years later, when I used to have terrible trouble getting Gamecube games.

laughitupfuzzball - December 20, 2007 08:02 AM (GMT)
Obviously my local Zavvi haven't had any - there hasn't even been the option of buying them with a bundle anywhere - other than buying online at Dixons/Curry's where they have had an odd few or pre-owned.

So many games to get though, last years Zelda - also the Link Crossbow training game   Super Mario Galaxy, pre order Super Smash bros Melee 2, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Mario Party 8, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Pokemon Battle Revolution - for Robbi :ph43r:  , Mario Strikers Charged Football ... and on and on
