Joss once again prove that he can produce the best and the most emotional of episode. the body is effective in so many way and joss didn't pull a punch to the gut, when he decide to deal with one subject, he will go to the darkest place and will involve emotionally the audience with the grieving of every member of the scoobies (buffy feeling lost and her hopeful dreams, willow and her jumper obsession, xander dealing with the pain, anya bursting out, dawn being in denial,...) and without the help of a background score.

not sure if the vampire at the end was that important, probably a reminder that even if a person close to us (or the scoobies) is gone, life (or unlife) goes on but I think that point is made clear in the following episode.

it is said that joss wanted to kill joyce in season four but even if he would have probably done a great episode, would the episode had the same impact without anya speech (not really a member of the scoobies at that time) , without dawn reaction (unless joss decide to introduce her ealier), ....
