Title: Shatner Has A Dig...

Star Trek star William Shatner has slammed the current state of the series after plans for him to make a surprise comeback have been put on hold. The bewigged 73-year-old actor was recently in discussions with the makers of Enterprise, the latest Star Trek spin-off, but his attempts to return as Captain Kirk have hit a brick wall.
"I had an idea for a story, and I broached it, and then asked for a lot of money," reveals Shatner, who currently stars in the US drama Boston Legal. "They took two steps backward and I haven't seen them since."
Now he wails: "From what I hear, they've lost the hero template. They lost the idea that it was good versus evil, and good triumphs. They lost the white light that Star Trek had in message and demeanour. And that's what they have to get back."
Fans have long campaigned for Kirk's return - the show's original hero last appeared in the 1994 film Star Trek Generations - when Kirk appeared to meet a somewhat inglorious end after falling off a bridge. |
But, like the Murphy's, he's not bitter

Glossing past the fact that you read The Daily Express :P
A 73 yeard old as a hero?
Sorry to be ageist but if he had to run after someone too fast he'd probably be in need of a double hip replacement.
I liked Kirk in the original series and films but he's dead, things move on etc.
I did like the "I broached it and then asked for lots of money" bit though :D

Given the downsize in this season's budget it's not surprising that they've declined. It's a pity that people like Shatner have difficulty in remembering how they got famous in the first place and actually gave something back to the franchise. Trek's in serious trouble, I hardly think donating some of his time to it's cause would have killed him. Not that I was particularly calling for his return, but I do find it annoying when people forget the fans who got them to where they are. SMG's another one with the Buffy Cartoon.
As for his comments of Trek being good vs evil, black and white. Cobblers. Has he never watched DS9 ?? Actually, I suppose he hasn't
Kirk returning to Trek would be too much of a gimmick IMO, as such I'm really not concerned that he won't be appearing on Enterprise next season. We've already got Brent Spiner on board for three episodes, had Bill signed on for another three then we'd have had 6 of the 24 being sweeps gimmicks.

Oh well, never mind :)
To be honest, I can't say the rumours of Shatner on Enterprise enthralled me that much - while he is a legend in the Trek world, out side of that he seems to be more famous for his musical 'gems' - vis
this recent link to see the depths he has sung to. It reminds me of the Futurama quote:
FRY: How can you do a spolen word version of a rap song?
TAKEI: Believe me, he found a way...

To oldly go where no has been has been before
I don't mind Shatner appearing but not as Jim Kirk. That's just more messing with the timeline. He could appear as Kirk's grandfather or something but Brent Spiner's already done that : :toomuchtv:
