Nope. It's one of those Aussie DVD's that are Region 2 & 4 friendly. It plays on my DVD player so I'm happy. :)

Well let's just say it was different wasn't it? I'm not going to say I loved it, but I did like the ideas they were trying to bring to the screen.
I'm interested to see what you thought of Curse of the Golden Flower. A visually stunning movie to me. What did you think?

Yes, it was visually stunning, and I thought it was very enjoyable up until the last 20 minutes or so. Chow Yun Fat is always watchable, and Gong Li was excellent. Jay Chou pretty much stole the show, though.
But the battle scenes at the end were so ridiculous. They started out quite amusingly but ended up being annoying, for me. I'm not entirely sure what Zhang Yimou was trying to achieve with them. :ermm:

Probably my favourite series after B5. The first series is a mix of standalone and arc episodes, much like B5's first year. By the end of that first year though, it's compelling viewing.
Still no sign of season 2 on DVD, but for my money, it was as good as B5 at its height.

This is my first time watching it and I am enjoying it and expect to enjoy it even more on the second time round. Yet so far it's nowhere near reaching the highs of Babylon 5(after all they are some very high highs! :) In my honest opinion only Buffy and Farscape come anywhere near)... Still I have quite a few episodes still to watch having seen up to the one where Jeremiah says he will rescue the girl from a whorehouse, then curdy has to fight some mammoth guy. Probably my favourite episode so far would have to be "tripwire".
If the second season isn't forthcoming on DVD do you have any idea how I can see the second season?
Crichton Kicks - December 13, 2007 10:19 AM (GMT)
Tripwire is the first 'arc' episode after the premiere. Like B5's first year, the better episodes tend to be the arc ones. The other important stories from the first season are Firewall, and the 2-part finale Things Left Unsaid. That's not to say that the standalones aren't good though. Many of them are, but it's about the same kind of level as Season 1 B5, some good, some not so good. Thankfully, AFAIR, there's nothing as bad as Infection in there!
Season 2, I'll drop you a PM later.
star_fury - December 13, 2007 05:28 PM (GMT)
You're right none of the episodes were as even half as bad as Infection. It's been an extremely solid first series so far and if like Babylon 5's first season this was meant to be the foundation I can only imagine how much better it's going to get or could've gotten given a 3rd & 4Th season.
I have to admit I was a bit thrown watching a JMS written show with full-blown swearing, sex and nudity, especially after Babylon 5. :o Definetely an adults only show.
