Nick - October 9, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
At the moment it's Maximo Park, Iron Maiden aren't touring near me at the moment :D

Don't forget the earplugs :whistling:

willowroolz - October 9, 2007 12:41 PM (GMT)

Not the best in terms of production/sound quality, but the set list and performance on the Rio cds/dvds is possibly the best they've captured to date. Still not a patch on being at one of their gigs, though :)

willowroolz - October 10, 2007 08:31 AM (GMT)
Best live band on the planet, bar none. Fecking awesome performance  but the London crowd wasn't a patch on Toronto, I'm afraid <_<

Shame you were feeling poorly, Paul, hope you'll be a bit better by Friday :)

And as for you Chris, Mr Front Row, were you coherent enough to enjoy it by the time you got there? ;)

So you managed to stay completely spoiler free then? Bet a few of those numbers gave you a bit of a shock

Glad you enjoyed it, mate, I looked down at you a couple of times and saw your camera appear :D

We had a fantastic view from where we were. Ash really did me proud with those seats. Shame there were so many boring old farts sitting around us not getting involved <_<

I didn't write the set list down, Nick, it's been posted in many a place :)

Just looked at the "last click" list and my last click was at 2:21 and Nick's was at 2:12 :lmao:

I ended up knowing about 4 tracks before the show, which were some of the main ones but not complaining overall :)

I borrowed the camera off a friend of my Uncle who wanted some good shots (I didn't want to bring mine 'cause I thought security would be a bit tight, but it was very slack), I got some really, really good pictures, but I'm not sure when I'll get to see them properly, hopefully I'll get them emailed to me at some point, I'll post them if I get them!

Good man

I considered bringing my camera along today but in the end I decided I'd rather concentrate on the gig than be taking photos all the time. I figure there will be plenty around anyway :)

Do you remember the tennis player Peter Fleming, who used to partner John McEnroe in the doubles? You're probably too young! But he was there last night, just across from us with his daughter (at least we assumed it was his daughter :naughty:  ).

The miserable sod didn't stand up, either <_<

willowroolz - October 10, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
Off we go again!!! :yahoo:

willowroolz - October 11, 2007 08:44 AM (GMT)
The atmosphere last night was a lot better - and a lot louder. A lot of people at the side still sat down but those around us were really getting into it, unlike the miseries the night before

Same set list as Tuesday but an even better performance, for me

willowroolz - October 14, 2007 11:33 AM (GMT)
Birmingham NEC, 12/10/07

Atmosphere-wise, this was the best show of the three UK ones I went to. Lots of people in block 16 up on their feet and singing and clapping and cheering. Great stuff. The singing along in Natural Science, Witch Hunt, Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer and YYZ was fantastic

Performance-wise it wasn't quite as good as Wembley on Wednesday (we're talking fractions here), but it was still pretty damn amazing :yahoo:

Now for Rotterdam :yahoo:

The last watcher - October 14, 2007 11:46 AM (GMT)
Singing to YYZ :o ;)

After seeing the set list you posted the other day I just had to dig out all my Rush albums and have a blast........ :headbang:

Ok, so Moving Pictures and Permanent waves still get played far more than the others  I try to give the newer ones a fair shot honest

I have not been to a concert in years :( never seem to get the time these days...

Not in the slightest envious of you getting to see them more than once this tour.......much..... :snooty:

willowroolz - October 18, 2007 12:28 PM (GMT)
Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam, 16/10/07

Got to the hotel at about midday, had something to eat and crashed for a bit. Then at 4pm I'd arranged to meet a group of people from The Rush Forum (not TNMS this time, sorry Chris!) at a place in the town centre called Coconuts (). Met some great people there, couple of Belgian guys, three Canadians (who'd spent the past few days in Amsterdam - you could tell from the permanent need for sunglasses...) and a Russian lass. Had a few drinks and more food then headed off to the arena.

No two ways about it, this show eclipsed Toronto as the best gig of the six I attended this tour, and did it with some style and ease. Got there about an hour before the show. The floor area was general admission and, after a bit of wandering around checking out the view, I suddenly found myself directly in front of Geddy's keyboards IN THE SECOND ROW :o :o :o

Awesome view, sound was fantastic but - best of all - the band played out of their skins. For me, they were practically flawless. And they were filming it for a dvd as well!

I haven't sung, cheered, clapped or punched the air that much since I was about 18   :headbang: :headbang:

And, like Chris, plenty of "Oh my God, Geddy just looked at me" moments

I even got a smile out of him when he sang the line in Witch Hunt "faces are twisted and grotesque" and I pulled a face at him. <<sits back and waits for the obvious comments  >>

By pure coincidence I ended up standing next to a couple of English guys and a Scottish bloke (dressed up as Harry Satchel ) and we had a fantastic time. The singing along during Natural Science was amazing. And it kept going after the song finished. I could see Geddy laughing in the darkness before the next song

Quite simply the best gig I have ever been to :yahoo:

Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam, 17/10/07
Met up with Karl (one of the English guys from the night before) and the two Belgian lads and headed down to the Arena a bit earlier this time. The two young 'uns wanted to head into the crush at front centre of the stage, so Karl and I arranged to see them afterwards and then headed over towards Geddy's side then...

...and you could have knocked me down with a feather - this time we got FRONT ROW, up against the barrier, the most amazing view. :yahoo:

Band were on form again, Alex was having a blast, Geddy had a few technical problems that were really pissing him off but he still played for all he was worth, and Neil - feck me, Neil actually smiled - several times! :o

Did my usual bit and shouted out for The Fountain of Lamneth a few times. They didn't play it of course. Managed to catch Alex's eye this time around, when he finally came over to Ged's side of the stage during YYZ. He seemed really relaxed and enjoying himself. It must have taken a lot of the pressure off knowing that they'd performed so well in front of the cameras the previous night.

There were less cameras around this time. Noticeably the ones on booms had gone. For me, the performance the night before was a fraction better, and I had used up most of my energy the night before but I still cheered and clapped and sang for all I was worth.

Can't wait to see the dvd, it is going to be a stunner :yahoo:

So that's the end of my little "Rush adventure" for another tour. Seen them 16 times now. Really hope this isn't the last I'll see of them but, if it turns out that way, these two shows in Rotterdam were a hell of a way to say goodbye

willowroolz - October 20, 2007 02:27 PM (GMT)
God plays the guitar ;)

and again...

Limelight solo

and

Witch Hunt, all from Rotterdam :)

That camera on the boom that keeps swinging around by Geddy, I was right underneath it. I can see my arms waving about

On tuesday we were about 5 yards to the left of this in the second row. Hopefully I'll have some photos of that night soon :)

willowroolz - October 23, 2007 01:58 PM (GMT)
Ah, an afternoon at a bar called Coconuts with other members of The Rush Forum before the first Rotterdam gig. :kate:

Clockwise from top left: two Belgians (Tim and Wes), a Canadian (Bob), er - me, another Canadian (whose name I can't remember  ) and the rather attractive young woman in the chair is a Rushian (ahem) by the name of Olga...

Chris, the guy who took the photo (another Canadian), was standing outside his hotel having a smoke later that night when Alex and Ged drove up - they were staying there too! He's got some very cool pics from the moment, and their autographs as well
