Title: NEW 2007 show: PUSHING DAISIES
Description: Kiss of life
TV Yank - October 6, 2007 07:00 AM (GMT)
Let's see. Bryan Fuller. He was behind DEAD LIKE ME and WONDERFALLS. Wonder if his latest, PUSHING DAISIES, will be any good? :ponder:
:lmao:
Jo-o-o-king.
 :yahoo:
It's that good.
The first thing I noticed was this show's an assault on the senses. Bold colors and cartoonish compositions. Dialog on afterburner. Absurdist storylne.
But the premise was one that could easily have failed: A child realizes that he has an incredible power -- to touch a dead creature and bring it to life. But there are side-effects.
Now, aged 28, he has a repressed social life and a thriving business baking pies. Until a reward-seeking PI learns his secret and blackmails him into helping him (it's all done with a light touch, I assure you).
Then, a childhood sweetheart returns to the young man's life. Yeah <_< awwww. But it works really well.
It helps that it has a flawless cast. Lee Pace, formerly of WONDERFALLS handles the lead duties expertly. And for the first time, I welcome the sight of Chi McBride (formerly of BOSTON PUBLIC and a short arc in HOUSE) as the PI. Anna Friel as the sweetheart has one of the most accomplished American personas to come out of England. And that's hard-to-recognize Swoozie Kurtz as an aunt with an eyepatch.
Maybe I'll tune in again next week.
:lmao:

:o
I love Swoosie Kurtz !
I had no idea she was in this - everything I`ve seen about this show has focused on the younger cast members.

I thought it was great, I loved the storyline and can't wait to see what happens next
I just hope that the 'no touching' problem doesn't get too frustrating for us viewers

I've found it frustrating in real life too... :naughty: :bag:
PS, I watch eppy 1 (called "Pie-lette") again and enjoyed even more than the first time. That doesn't happen very much.

ABC's fantasy series Pushing Daisies debuted strongly on Oct. 3, averaging 13 million viewers and a 4.3 rating/12 share in the adults 18-49 demographic to win both measures at 8 p.m., according to The Hollywood Reporter; NBC's Bionic Woman, meanwhile, posted a decline from last week's premiere, to 13.91 million, 5.7/14.

PUSHING DAISIES' Wednesday timeslot is an unusually good one. The only real competition is from the game show DEAL OR NO DEAL. Altho, personally, there's a tech-science show on the PBS station that I'd like to catch.
Phillip Culley - October 7, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
Although people from the UK might like to know Canada gets it a day earlier, so in theory they can get it Wednesday morning :)

Excellent show. Watched and loved it. Anna Friel is just so damn good. In fact, the whole cast is excellent. I'm loving the interaction between Friel and Pace.
Really looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Incompentent machine! I watched the science program opposite PUSHING DAISIES and discovered afterwards that the VCR failed to tape episode 2 of DAISIES.
And, for some reason, PUSHING DAISIES is one show that doesn't get repeated on the weekends.

Ah, man. That really sucks. Can you not download it?
Second episode, as far as I’m concerned, was as good as the pilot. Great script, great cast, great direction. Just bloody great.

At home I'm still using a modem. It takes at least 2 days to download a show like that.
One of the major irritations of American TV is the frequency of repeats thru out the season. But, occasionally, they can be a benign thing.

Ep 3's plot's inner structure could be glimpsed, albeit vaguely -- unlike the amorphous unpredictability of the first episode. But it was still fun. Very amusing that the Asian guy had a Southern accent and used Old South provincialisms.
Speaking of which... I was enjoying the narrator so much in these episodes that I didn't pause to wonder at his ambiguous accent. When I did ponder it, I thought he could be an American who affects British pronounciations (that was really noticeable in Ep 3). So I looked him up at IMDb. Turns out he's a Brit named Jim Dale.
Another ponderable: if this were a drama, many of these performances would be considered just plain awful. But, in this context, an off-center performance is required. And, it seems to take really good actors to pull it off.
Anyway, if the show coasted along at this level, it'll still be the show I most look forward to.

i really like episode one, great way to introduce the kid power and the consequences
will they ever explain how he got the "gift or curse"? ( depend of the point of view i suppose)
great cast :)

Many times the effort to explain a supernatural power weakens it. I'm for letting it be.

depend how the show will be developped i suppose :ponder:

Overnite ratings for 3rd episode from MediaWeek.com:
Week three of ABC’s Pushing Daisies was second [in its timeslot] (6.7/11), but compared to its debut just two weeks earlier (9.0/15 on Oct. 3) that was a loss of 26 percent. :fear:

TV Guide's Ausiello Report reported that ABC has ordered a full season of its hit fantasy series Pushing Daisies.
"Multiple sources confirm that ABC has ordered nine additional episodes, for a grand total of 22," the column reported.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter said that CBS has ordered four more scripts of its vampire drama Moonlight.
The drama is doing OK in its 9 p.m. Friday slot but is CBS' lowest-rated show on the night, the trade paper reported. |

 I've been enjoying its kookiness and kid's picture book look.
Ep 4 "Pidgeon" was just as fun as any of the others. Plus, it had redheaded Jayma Mays (Charlie in HEROES and UGLY BETTY) proving what a terrific actress she is -- especially when she's talkin' Southern.

episode 2: dummy
an other good episode
but not sure about the all "we can touch as long there is some plastic between us" :ponder:

THANK YOU!!
I could not place her at all and didn't have the chance to look her up. She was looking nice.
Excellent episode again. I can see they're gonna get Chenoweth to do a little song every chance the get. Not that I'm complaining, she has an excellent voice. Be interesting to see what happens between her and Chuck now that she knows Chuck's secret.

Ep 5 --
Well... maybe Ned's secretive visit to his old home wasn't especially interesting... but it was mercifully brief and paid off with a funny scene beforehand and his dramatic return afterwards.
Is Pace and Friels sceen chemistry becoming more intense? Or is that my growing appreciation of Anna's charms?
Hats off to the wonderful dialog and, once again, to voiceover Jim Dale.
There's alot of talent fore and aft that goes into making this show as awesome as it is.

This show is always a joy to watch
I especially loved some of Emerson's lines this week
LP and AF are wonderful to watch, communicating as much with a look as with words. Too cute

| I especially loved some of Emerson's lines this week  |
Emerson: "Don't try to act like that's a word everybody knows."
Olive: "Promise not to laugh?"
Emerson: "No."
“Hang on a second, let me ask the money."
Ned: “I knocked the hors d’oeuvres plate into my lap and the brie was runny.”
Emerson: “I’d stick with the pissing my pants story.”
I like the voiceover poetry. It sounded like "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and Dr Seuss.

episode 3
simple plot but still quiet funny
the episode serves to tell what happened to the funeral director "accidently" killed in the pilot. ned and chuck develops their relationship, olive is having doubt :ermm: and Emerson is just a bit annoying (hope it get better soon)
