The one where Adam and The Initiative get their asses thoroughly kicked

i think they made economy during season four (especially about adam ) for this episode (explosion, extras and stunt men,....)

an all action spectacular episode

finally the gang resolve their difference and work together to beat the bad guy (i think blowing him up like forrest would have taken less energy  but we would have missed the next episode  ). The season's themes (maturity, change, separation,...) are kind of sorted out one after the other (still not sure if they really had to have a talk and a hug in the lift  )

adam finale plan :ermm: (kind of agree with xander when he wonder if anyone else miss the mayor <_< )

and we have the initiative approach and the slayer and co approach to how to solve supernatural problem ( buffy speech about the initiative being on her territory and having no clue of what's going on) .........

spike being his usual self: save his skin and help the people who will probably win to avoid being staked (even xander couldn't even act surprised  )

Primeval is on the whole pretty engrossing but I have no great insight to make about it. As one of the writers says somewhere or other it is an obvious homage to You Only Live Twice with its gung-ho action emphasis and on that basis it is fairly effective.

Spike is rather humourful especially when he realises there is a flaw in the plan when Buffy is alienated from the scoobies and so cannot receive the information from Willow. His line about not wanting a comb-over is also a good one.

There was something convincing, poignant even, about Xander's disaffected sense of apathy contrasting wonderfully with Anya's peppy down to earth matter of factness.

With the emphasis on drama there is not much room for many fun lines which might have detracted from story anyhow.

One thing that bugged me was why they went to all the trouble to abseil down the liftshaft when it was clearly stated in Hush that in an emergency they should take the stairs. I would have thought Riley would have articulated his near miss to Buffy after the events in Hush.

I think it is quite natural for people to drift apart after school unless extraordinary circumstances hold them together.

I recall reading somewhere that Joss was livid with the Matrix type showdown with Adam. I wonder what Joss had in mind as an alternative.

prophecy girl and the SFX Buffy special have all mentioned that Spike should have been staked considering his deception and manipulation of the scoobies which seems a plausible line to take. The other time for a plausible Spike dusting might have been as the sun comes up in The Gift.

I am glad Primeval is the penultimate episode of the season as it is more childlike than the mystical leaning Restless. Finishing on a difficult to appraise episode is right for a season that tried to be so original and daring. 7/10. sk

but even if he mentionned it, would he have shown her where was the entrance for the stairs

he also failed to mention that even if he broke the lift monitor at the end of "good by IOWA", the military would still be able to exit (even if not as fast as with the lift) and go after them via the stairs

The lift had a voice recognition activation system.......the stairs bypassed this in case of emergency....but any military establishment (even as clueless as the initiative) would monitor/guard the stairwell, otherwise why bother with security at all... The liftshaft would seem the best stealth access to the compplex...but as was seen that was obviously monitored as well.....

From Doug's comments.......

David Fury was all over that episode and he referred to it early on as our You Only Live Twice episode. Of course, we don't even think our fans' parents were born when that film was released!

It was only 1967

i suppose they didn't think they could go the same way as in new moon rising (now that they knew spike was working with adam but then they also knew adam wanted buffy in the initiative :ponder: ) or they thought the computers were gonna be more stronger against hackers (or willow understood that adams kinda helped with the computer during the rescue mission  )
