Title: Announcement on Monday.
jamiearmour - July 1, 2007 09:01 PM (GMT)
It was revealed during the commentary for Last of the Timelords that there is to be an announcement about the future of Martha Jones on Monday.
I'm hoping that she's joining the Torchwood team, replacing that tw*t Owen as team medic
Laura - July 1, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
I've heard rumours that she'll be in DW for a few episodes and will turn up in Torchwood as well but won't be joining the cast for the full season.
What about replacing Gwen at the same time? <_<

Tony said the very same thing
OK, she'll replace Gwen, then Owen can die in a very violent and bloody way :yahoo:

I have no problem with that. Leave the three characters I actually liked . Though I have to admit that I found Owen less annoying towards the end of the season when he seemed to develop some human emotions.

Fangy and grrr - July 1, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
I'd be happy to wipe them all out apart from Jack but I suspose you could keep Gwen as the token Welsh member of the team. :)
I'd really like Martha to join Torchwood as thats actually the first thought I had after DW finished, she could even bring her no doubt soon to be Dr boyfriend and she and Jack could fight over him. ;)

Well, it's Monday, so here's the announcement.....
| QUOTE |
Relax - she's coming back, and branching out too...
While the final episode of Series Three, screened last Saturday , saw The Doctor's companion Martha leave to care for her devastated family, and to break the cycle of unrequited love she feels for The Doctor, the production team has now confirmed that the character is set to make a triumphant return in the fourth series.
Freema Agyeman is also set to join the cast of Torchwood, where she will continue to play the character in three new episodes before returning to Doctor Who in the middle of the fourth series.
As Doctor Who's Executive Producer and head writer, Russell T Davies notes: "Series three has gained outstanding reviews and Freema has been a huge part of that success, gaining rave notices for her portrayal of Martha. Now we are taking the character of Martha into brand new territory with a starring role in Torchwood".
"I can't wait to start filming on Torchwood and the new series of Doctor Who," said Freema. "It's a huge new challenge for me and I'm delighted Russell has decided to expand the character of Martha Jones.'"
The new announcement leaves a vacant space in the TARDIS. A new companion for The Doctor, who will join the new series for the entire 13 week run, will be announced shortly. |
From the beeb.
Hmmm, Torchwood and Doctor Who, won't that confuse the kiddies? :ponder:

I thought she wouldn't be going permanently due to the thread left open at the end of the episode (the mobile phone).
I'm more intruiged by the new companion, probably another male character like Captain Jack? Or will the Doctor have two honeys vying for his affection?
willowroolz - July 2, 2007 08:29 AM (GMT)
I'm reading between the lines, but it almost feels like he views Torchwood as the more important series :ermm:
I look forward to the day when the new Doctor Who can keep the same cast two seasons running :)
jamiearmour - July 2, 2007 09:41 AM (GMT)
I don't think Torchwood is the "Most important" series, I think it's more a case of it being the one that needs the most help.
It had good viewing figures, but not the great ones that they had hoped for, I'm thinking this might be the angle they're taking here.

Yeah, quite probably. It's also his "baby". :ponder:
I just hope it's not to the detriment of The Doctor :ermm:

:o  martha is moving to cardiff, i thought she was gonna stay with her family (in london) a little while to help them get over the memory of the year that never was
of course torchwood may need more than one lovable character (jack) to attract an audience but nowhere in the goodby scene, jack offered martha (and the doctor but i doubt he would have accepted) to visit torchwood

It could lead to a Doctor appearance in Torchwood as well though. All it would take would be one phone call from Martha...... :ponder: Wouldn't that be fun, having the Doctor tell everyone to mind their language every five minutes

Maybe Martha is thrust into Torchwood, in a way beyond her and Jacks control. Jack may not have invited her - but unnexpected things do happen and maybe Torchwood might need Martha for something.
Anyway not sure what to make of this it seems to be stupid as I believe Davies said he wanted to keep the two series apart and the only linking point would be Jack, so to bring Martha onto Torchwood is against that and will probably get more kiddies to want to watch Torchwood which isn't who Torchwood is aimed at.
Bad idea. All Torchwood needs is some better scripts and an attempt to try to jump out of its teenage like storytelling and plots.
As for Owen, I didn't mind him so much, although I did think the character was badly written for and hopefully peoples comments will be taken on board and he'll have a character change next series, which kind of happened in the last ten minutes of the last season.
I still think he needs to be a bit of an ass, as he kind of offsets some of Jacks personality and the conflict between the two characters is good, just tone it down.
Overall less episodes like Cyberwoman and more like They keep killing suzy (if that was the right name of the episode I'm thinking about).
prophecy girl - July 2, 2007 10:28 AM (GMT)
we also know that jack will be able to teleport twice (so a big explosion in torchwood could be a good reason even if jack can't die)
of course bringing martha in torchwood might be due to her cousin having worked in canary wharf (but as did ianto)
jamiearmour - July 2, 2007 11:37 AM (GMT)
Maybe she goes in undercover, as her cousin?

I tape Entertainment Today on GMTV on Friday`s, in case there`s something worth watching on it , and last Friday they interviewed John Barrowman - he said that Torchwood is the second highest rated series in Australia. :)
Oh, and that Torchwood will probably be back in January in the UK.
Like everyone says, I can`t see how a Martha crossover would work ; I know 9 year olds who love Dr Who, they can hardly see Torchwood with all its naughty language - unless the Beeb will show an edited early evening episode, like they did with Buffy ?

Yes I would go with that too, definately got the looks of an ideal companion  .
Although is the TARDIS big enough for two women and a Doctor seeing as how all the female companions have fallen in love with him recently :naughty: ? (apart from Donna of course).
