Sounds quite interesting. Although if they stick with the same £80 price tag that the TNG/DS9 and further VOY sets have had then I may have to think twice :(

Phillip Culley - May 4, 2004 06:07 PM (GMT)
Whereabouts did this extras list come from - it surprises me given what lacklustre we've had on the sets so far...

I also heard a rumour about Shatner and Nimoy getting together for commentaries, so it surprises me that there are no audio commentaries at all on this set (especially given the long list)!

Plus the air date order seems strange, given that every other time TOS has ben released, it's been in production order!

Crichton Kicks - May 4, 2004 06:12 PM (GMT)
It's from the Region 2 Project.

Note, they're still rumoured at this point ;)
Although, given the hefty price tag, which is still rumoured to be up around the £80 mark then they're going to have to include more to justify that tag for what is quite an old series.

willowroolz - May 10, 2004 12:22 PM (GMT)
I'm disappointed they haven't got a commentary by the polystyrene boulder that was in every episode.

Seriously, though, can't wait!

Crichton Kicks - May 10, 2004 04:43 PM (GMT)
Joking aside, that's one aspect of the DVD sets that have disappointed me, the lack of a character/actor provided commentary over a selection of the episodes.

For the prices that Paramount are charging us I hardly think they can put it down to costing them too much.

Totally agree. I think we're paying for the packaging more than anything else!

Crichton Kicks - May 11, 2004 09:27 PM (GMT)
The packaging for the sets is excellent for the most part, but that plastic thing in the DS9 ones that actually holds the DVDs is lethal, you could probably snap one in half trying to get the damned thing out !!

The external packaging is good, but is it worth an additional £30 ?? No way :(

I quite like the B5 S1-S3 and Smallville style packaging myself. I know people have mentioned the longevity of the sets given the obvious wear and tear likely to occur, but still, they look good and they're nice and practical.

willowroolz - May 21, 2004 08:04 AM (GMT)
Thanks for that Phillip. I'm looking forward to them even more now :)

Crichton Kicks - May 21, 2004 05:24 PM (GMT)
Yeah. I've decided I'm definitely having them as well.

These are the first Trek DVD sets where I've actively thought beforehand that I'm going to get them.

Still not sure on that third season though :P

Phillip Culley - May 21, 2004 05:32 PM (GMT)
You do get 'The Cage' - as well as several decent Season 3 stories - Enterprise Incident, Tholian Web and so on... :)

Crichton Kicks - May 21, 2004 05:35 PM (GMT)
I'm still pissed off with the lack of commentaries though

Not sure about The Cage, I'd love it, but that means I have to get Spock's Brain as well :(

willowroolz - July 13, 2004 11:22 AM (GMT)
I'm actually getting quite excited about these dvds now. It's a long time since I watched TOS, and I have just given my entire TOS video collection to charity. Not only does that mean that I now need the dvds (!), but it also means I have cleared an entire shelf!!

Bring on The Man Trap

willowroolz - August 23, 2004 07:52 PM (GMT)
Resurrecting an old thread here, but I've just had an email from Amazon saying they've dropped the price of season 1 to £49.99

Crichton Kicks - August 23, 2004 07:55 PM (GMT)
I'm more tempted at that price. Might have to add that one to the DVD-buying schedule ;)

Phillip Culley - August 23, 2004 08:03 PM (GMT)
A bit of a long winded way of getting it, but if you go to www.play.com/sunmon, and enter the password SUNFRIDAY, you can get a free copy of a DVD (it's The Long Good Friday on Monday 23rd; different passwords on different days will get you other films - it's a Sun promotion), but after applying for it, you get an e-mail with a code for 10% off all your purchases and pre-orders :)

With TOS at £52 there, you can knock it down to about £47! :)

Crichton Kicks - August 23, 2004 08:09 PM (GMT)
Just looking through everything else that's out before the end of the year, I doubt I'll be getting it until after Christmas afterall.

Phillip Culley - August 23, 2004 09:44 PM (GMT)
Do what I did and enter the Cult website competition :)

Costs you nothing, and there's a small chance of winning :)

willowroolz - August 23, 2004 10:02 PM (GMT)
Does that mean no rewatch until after Christmas?! :o

...and I've ordered it already... ;)

Crichton Kicks - August 24, 2004 04:06 PM (GMT)
What with the B5 rewatch and me trying to catch up with Farscape at some point, I don't think I'll have the time, but that shouldn't stop the rest of you ;)

willowroolz - August 24, 2004 08:03 PM (GMT)
It's okay, I was kidding about that one. How many rewatches can one man take?  ;)

Well, if you set aside one hour per episode, and watch 2 episodes a week, you have 2 hours per series. There are 24x7 = 168 hours in a week, which gives a maximum of 84 posible rewatches at any one time :)

Oi!!

Anyway, I'm not the one having trouble fitting them in, am I James? :P ;)

Crichton Kicks - August 24, 2004 09:19 PM (GMT)
Exactly !!

I can't keep up with the one I'm supposed to be doing, now Phillip's gone and paved the way for a multitude more :P

I'll definitely make time for the B5 rewatch, and I'll be catching up on the Farscape one, but beyond that, I've got no bleeding chance :fear:

willowroolz - August 24, 2004 09:20 PM (GMT)
I've actually taken it as something of a relief that The X Files rewatch has stalled ;)

You have

I think I managed the Pilot episode and Deep Throat and that was it

Oddly, that's one of the rewatches I should be taking a little more seriously, there are more than a few episodes in there that I've not seen before :(

Oh well, another one to catch up on ;)

willowroolz - August 24, 2004 09:24 PM (GMT)
Careful what you wish for - Rob'll read this and start it up again!

Or have you banned him from the Star Trek board for posting spoilers?

Yes, because a blow by blow description of the final scene of the final episode of the series can't possibly qualify as a spoiler, can it Rob?

I could then change his password to block him gaining access by any other means.

Of course, I'm above such things however

I'm not blessed with patience. When someone annoys me, they find out. Quickly.

Having said that, it takes a special kind of idiot. Carl or UBF fit the bill remarably well

Made the mistake of stopping of at Tesco on the way home from work today. Bad idea. Nice shiny new TOS sets there on the stand

Fortunately I've managed to resist temptation, but my willpower's wilting

Right then shall we take bets on how long Angel's will power will last until he pops up to Tesco's and buys the box set????

a week?

a day?

a hour?

he's already on his way???? :D :D :D

Crichton Kicks - August 31, 2004 05:14 PM (GMT)
Ordinarily you'd probably be right Ken. But next month's pretty heavy DVD release-wise. The Star Wars trilogy boxset, The West Wing S4, Millennium Season 2, Roswell S3 shortly after that. Still got CSI S3 part 2 to get as well
