Spice Girls The Spice Girls have confirmed they will reform for a 12-date world tour to begin in December. The annoucement was made at a press conference at London's O2 arena which all five members attended.
The full line-up has not performed together since Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell quit in May 1998.
"I think for us it was about celebrating the past, enjoying each other and it's about our fans. It was the right time," said Halliwell.
The group will kick off their tour in Los Angeles in December, and will go on to perform in Las Vegas, New York, London, Koln, Madrid, Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney, Cape Town and Buenos Aires.
Earlier this month Mel Chisholm, also known as Sporty Spice, told the BBC that any reunion would be for "a very short space of time... a final goodbye".
The singer added that she had resisted reforming the band in the past because "it was amazing, it was magical. We could never recreate it".
When asked at the conference why she had gone back on her word she said: "A girl is allowed to change her mind and also this is something that we have only seriously started this year really.
"I think really all of us have had our fears and doubts but we feel that the time is right."
All five women laughed and joked constantly with photographers and reporters, even jokingly booing one journalist.
Future plans
The tour is being put together by Simon Fuller, whose 19 company masterminded the group's global success more than a decade ago.
Under his guidance, the five-piece notched up a string of hits - including Wannabe and 2 Become 1 - while also capitalising on their fame with a stream of sponsorship deals.
Nicknames
Emma Bunton, Mel Brown, Mel Chisholm, Victoria Adams and Geri Halliwell quickly became household names - although they were better known as Baby, Scary, Sporty, Posh and Ginger.
They sold more than 55 million records around the world, and even starred in a film, Spice World. Halliwell quit in 1998 citing "differences", leaving them to complete a sold-out world tour as a foursome.
The group achieved their third consecutive Christmas number one later that year, and released a third album, Forever, in 2000.
Each member has since pursued solo careers with varying degrees of success, while Posh Spice has become better known as fashion icon Victoria Beckham.

Omg!! Yay........! Me and my friend have been dreaming about this since year 10! There were rumours round then that they'd reform and we've been waiting to hear ever since. We wrote a rap about it at the time.... Yes, I was part of an all white, female rap group when I was 14. Or 'crew' I suppose...
Anyway, how exciting. I always wanted to be baby but people said I was posh so I had to be her...

Interesting that this has come about now the last of their solo careers has finally disappeared :ponder:
Baby - gone (she should've won the dancing, though)
Sporty - gone (best - only - voice of the lot of 'em, so it's a bit of a shame)
Ginger - gone (thankfully)
Scary - needs the money cos Eddie Murphy isn't going to pay up
Posh - er, what did she do anyway? Apart from stand in the background and pout?

Pfft... coincidence :p Anyway, they're not all gone, Mel C performed at the Isle of Wight festival a few weeks back, didn't she? And Victoria's about to become an LA it girl... And the others are all having babies... And, umm, anyway they work better all together anyway, like Friends it's rubbish when they're separate (Joey ). And meh. It's gonna be awesome. You suck.. :p
I think I'll get David to take me to the LA show, we can go shopping and celebrity spotting as well as seeing them..

TW LA
Best thing about the spice girls was the song they inspired on Dry Kill Logics album 'Darker Side of Nonsense'. At least I'm assuming it was inspired by them as it uses the zigga zig ah bit :ponder:
Hopefully their reunion gig will be held on a day with unusually high winds in which case 'Posh' can get blown several hundred feet in to the air and dumped on to an electricity pylon.

Ooh, what a great idea. I'd love that so much. I can't wait to hear their fabulous singing voices and incredibly catchy non-annoying pop songs again. Lets do that - in fact, lets go one better and follow them around the world on their tour...
Some parts of this post may contain sarcasm ;)

You wasted a post telling us about this PG? :p
I saw a picture of them in the paper before, I am sure Victoria Beckham has lost weight, she seemed to be less stick figurey back in the day. I wonder why the reunion? Most of them don't need money do they?
prophecy girl - July 1, 2007 04:04 PM (GMT)
would you say no to an offer of 20 millions (each if i read correctly) to do a few concerts around the world? <_<

Never mind that, the first show of Van Halen's reunion tour was a huge success, apparently
