Yes, but the question is who is actually buying some of these trite Colin Baker and to an extent Sylvester McCoy releases?
I can just imagine some parent buying these DVDs unaware of how rubbish it is for a child in lieu of the new series, and the child being put off Who forever......
Blimey, nobody watched these back in the day why in hell would anyone want to own them? I think some Doctor Who fans are being too completist with their DVD collections. I bought relevalation of the daleks the supposed diamond in the rough of all of Colin Bakers stories. I can tell you now it wasn't a diamond in the rough these people were seeing.....what they were seeing must have been brown, smelly and to be frank that must have been a lump of poo.
Anyway by the time they release all of them on DVD (I'll be like 75 years old), I'm sure we would have moved on to a new format or something......

Hmmm - how about people buying them are getting them as irrelevant of the actual story (which aren't as bad as whining fans make them out to be), the package you get with them is always very good?
And the hyperbole about 'not having them all until we're 75 is very old hat, since there's been a commitment expressed to have all the DVDs out in the next 5 or so years.

Well at this rate they won't have all the DVDs out in the next 5 years.
Also you have to admit that the Colin Baker stories are of a considerably less quality. Watching some reruns back on UK Gold many of the stories were so bad that after the first or second episodes I just couldn't give two hoots.
Exceptions being Vengance On Varos and Revelation of The Daleks, however these were still not up to the quality of the Peter Davisons tenure, and to think that The Caves Of Androzani was one of the best Doctor Who stories ever to be followed by a whole two seasons of the worst Doctor Who to ever be made.
To say that the package you get is good, is true but why would I want documentaries and commentaries on episodes I don't even like with the least favourite actor to ever play the role.

The only reason I could possibly express to get this release is, if, it's one of the "bargain" releases (a'la Sontaran Experiment) Then, and only then, would the completist side of my personality come out to play
I couldn't care less about them releasing them all in the next 5 years, Don't get me wrong, I do want them all (with notable exceptions) but I want the releases to be handled correctly.
The beeb could have the lot of them out already, with no extras, no enhancements, jsut shiny discs with one item of content, but I like the fact that they take their time over the releases, and appreciate all of the work put in.
Dan, every show has "rough patches" it's unfortunately innevitable that any long running show has them, but they can be overlooked, or looked at through rose tinted glasses, for the sake of the whole run.
The next DVD release that I'm looking forward to is the (eventual) R2 release of the Key to Time. With special features (Get it up ye America :p  )

That would be this new 'rate', which has seen 15 confirmed stories, and probably one (if not more) unannounced story released in 2007?
You were the one who said no-one watched the Colin Baker era in the day, however the viewing figures say otherwise - Season 22 regularly got over 7 million viewers - just like the current season!
The stories might not be as good, but to say the public tuned out is rubbish.

Time for Mr Completist to come out and play, since it is one of the bargain releases :)

OK I concede on the point on the new releases being out in the next five years, but I was unaware of the increased release rate, however the point I was making is that technology is moving on and the next five years for DVD may be too slow. They were too slow with VHS, and now with DVD.
With digital downloading of material, HD etc. DVD may be a thing of the past in 5 years time. DVD may still be a viable format, but who knows what the future holds, and the manufacturing companies are predicting a huge boom in HD material due to the high sales of HDTVs.
Whether or not Doctor Who could make the jump to HD is relevant, however digital downloading and the dissapearance of discs is predicted at some stage.
And I agree Jamie I do enjoy the substantial amount of extras avaliable and that the product is at a high standard and well worth the amount of money
Surely even with 17 stories a year 5 years is a little hopeful? How many stories are left to come to DVD? .Now to watch them in order I have to wait 5 years....
Also alot of fans agree that Colin Bakers era was a significant downturn in quality, and I have also said on these boards before that some of his stories were not as bad as I had been lead to believe, but they we still rubbish in my opinion.
The ratings may have still been high, but they had fallen from previous seasons. At the end of Colin Bakers tenure audiences were at an all time low of 4-5 million. Far from nobody watching and I'm sorry I seem to over emphasise some of my points.
Comparing ratings from now and 1984 is also unrealible and unrealistic. Now we have hundreds of channels to watch, more choice, on demand and illegal downloading. I bet the audience share between the channels at the time of Doctor Who now was higher, than that in 1984 anyway and in comparison to previous Who series.
