England, 1913. A schoolteacher called John Smith dreams of adventures in time and space.

The Doctor, along with Martha, heads to a boarding school, to hide out from an alien race, but realise that they are needed to save the world once more when unusual events including creepy scarecrows threaten their cover.

I found this quite a charming episode and felt quite sorry for Martha who apart from a video of the Doctor is quite alone. The trailer for next week looks quite alarming considering the cliffhanger we were left with this week.

I could quite happily have watched a season with this setting, thought it was excellent.

I like the period piece episodes, The Girl In The Fireplace for instance was my favourite episode last series, and I enjoyed the Shakespeare Code as well.

I agree that we should see more set in this era, it tends to give off more interesting episodes and its probably easier on the budget. I would like to see a Doctor Who episode like Deathwatch. Set at the trenches of the second or first World War.

Looks like this week was the set up for the next episode as on its own its a charming episode however I feel the best is still to come.....

I loved this episode.

I don't want to say too much, because I'm re-reading the book right now, all of the changes just added to the story. The scarecrows were brilliantly realised :fear: , despite not being in the book

There were so many lovely little dialogue touches.

"Her name was Rose...She just vanished"
"Where did you learn to bowl?" "Galifrey"
"A girl in every fireplace!" :lmao:

Roll on part 2 now please

 It was charming! exactly right, my favourite so far this year.

I do feel terribly sorry for Martha :( the Doctor for once certainly deserved that slap.

:fear: @ The scarecrows

I really enjoyed this one as well  great concept and I loved the scarecrows. :)

I read in The Guardian that when the Doctor/Smith says his parents were called Sydney & Verity thats a reference to the shows original creators Sydney Newman and Verity Lambert.

I spent a good portion of this episode wondering where I'd seen the youngest boy before until I realised he was in Love Actually .

The scarecrows were very creepy and it's always great to see Jessica Stevenson.

a good part one

scarecrows

poor martha trying to deal with the doctor living his life (and a love story) and her unable to interfer (well until she has no choice)

sniffing family :fear:

no sure about the kid who is able to see the doctor life :ponder: i suppose it will be explained next episode

quite a good cliffanger, hope the next episode will be great (not gonna read the critic for next episode )
