Title: Albums of 2007 so far...
willowroolz - May 23, 2007 01:05 PM (GMT)
A follow up to last year's similar thread, what have been your favourite albums so far this year (it's a bit early in the year, I know, but I'm bored  ).
List as many as you like - only albums released this year :)
For me, it's been a great year so far:
1. Gazpacho - Night
2. Rush - Snakes & Arrows
3. Porcupine Tree - Fear of A Blank Planet
4. Machine Head - The Blackening
5. Marillion - Somewhere Else
6. Norah Jones - Not Too Late
7. Blackfield - Blackfield II
And still to come: Symphony X - Paradise Lost, Devin Townsend - Ziltoid the Omniscient and Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos, plus any other surprises I stumble across :)

Agree with Norah Jones
my contender so far is Maximo Park - Our Earthly Pleasures
Laura - May 23, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
Idlewild - Make Another World
Manic Street Preachers - Send Away The Tigers
Fall Out Boy - Infinity on High
And Biffy Clyro's Puzzle is out in a couple of weeks (at last!) so I'm sure that'll make it into my list if it's anything like the singles have been :yahoo:

I had to look them up
...and their Wikipedia entry says:

| The band themselves cite influences ranging from post-emo luminaries like Sunny Day Real Estate to prog legends Rush, while reviewers are often quick to link their sound to the likes of Nirvana. |
Think I like them already

They've been around for ages but they seem to be doing quite well with their new stuff, they were on the In New Music We Trust stage at Radio 1's big weekend (despite not actually being a new band ).
This is their new single 'Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies',
previous single 'Saturday Superhouse' and the download only
'Semi-mental'.

Saw/heard this on Scuzz earlier on, liked it a lot
Can definitely hear the Rush influences there, too, especially the syncopated section in the middle :)

Totally agree with that.
I can't think of any others at the mo. Whilst I've got into the new NIN album a bit more, I still wouldn't consider it a classic. :ermm:

Glad you do
I think the third track - Books from Boxes is one of my favourite songs of all time, absolutely stunning. :guitar:

I have only bought one album this year, Paradise Lost's In Requiem. So far I haven't listened to it much, but it is much better than their last offering.

Three months on from my original post and Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet has steadily made its way to the top of my list. I can't get enough of it, it's a damn near perfect album, imo. There isn't a track on it that I don't look forward to hearing
Gazpacho are running it a close second, now. Rush would have pushed it harder if their album didn't tail off a bit towards the end but, apart from that, it's the best they've recorded in years :)
Dream Theater has grown on me but I think it's waaaay too long at 78 mins, which makes it difficult to listen to in one go. They should have dropped some of the filler. Both the PT and Gazpacho albums clock in at just over 50 minutes, which is just about right, for me.

And Riverside have snatched my award from PT and Gazpacho's grasp with Rapid Eye Movement :o
