Title: Delay in next episode

I wasn't sure where to post this:

Doctor Who may have defeated Daleks and conquered Cybermen but he's been bumped off TV by singers from across Europe!

Time Lord fans will be disappointed to learn that episode seven, called 42, is being put off for a week to make way for the Eurovision Song Contest.

The contest takes place in Helsinki on 12 May and will be shown live on BBC1. Scooch will be representing the UK.

Doctor Who bosses confirmed that the episode will be postponed because of Eurovision.

42 will now be shown on Saturday 19 May.

It features former EastEnder Michelle Collins as McConnell, the strong-willed captain of a doomed spaceship hurtling out of control towards a boiling sun.

The Doctor and Martha have only 42 minutes to uncover the saboteurs and battle a mysterious force starting to possess the ship's crew.

Bloody Eurovision! I hope some dodgy band like Lordi win it again as punishment! :p

hold on, when did they plan their schedules? it's like they just notice there is the eurovision on the 12th (and is it too complicate to show doctor who an other day? sunday for example  :ermm: )

Yeah, well this way they'll still have the kids hiding behind the sofa, covering their ears and cowering in abject terror.

But for completely different reasons

They had planned to have Doctor Who on earlier, however after the lower ratings Daleks in Manhattan got (and that was on nearly half an hour earlier) it made sense to postpone it a week and get good 7pm ratings rather than to show it earlier in the day and risk lower ratings.

And moving it to Sunday is an insane idea - a) the BBC wouldn't do it to their flagship show, and b ) they would not want to lose even more ratings thanks to people not knowing it was on Sunday and missing it. And then those who miss it would complain, and over all it would be more hassle.

Anyway, now the episode is delayed it'll mean one less week wait between the finale and the Christmas special :)

Alot of people probably missed it because they thought it was on at 7 and missed it like me!!! Thank Goodness for the catch-up feature on Virgin Media.

Thats terrible news news Eurovision is just :shit: and should been cancelled long ago! Why can't the beeb show the episode first on bbc 3 for the those fans who don't want to wait a week?

Because not everyone has BBC3, and as a result the episode would get disastrous ratings - half of them would watch it on BBC3; the other half on BBC1 the week after. What would be the point? They're trying to make a successful series - not pander for fans who can't wait. Plus, if they did show it on BBC3 people would then whine that they have to wait 2 weeks for Episode 8. And we would be lucky if they did this for one week - to do it each and every week would be suicide - especially when it comes to tie-in programs like Confidential and Totally Doctor Who.

To be honest, people who can't wait an extra week for an episode of a TV show really need to get a life and stop whining...

Darris - May 5, 2007 12:56 PM (GMT)
For some reason, even though I read the news before posting it on here, I thought it was delayed this week.

I agree the Eurovision is rubbish, its not even about talent. And we hardly get that many votes. They should pull out and spend the money elsewhere. And with Scooch representing us this year its bound to be a joke as usual.

Phillip you raised some very good points I honestly hadn'd thought of that it just seems a shame to me when they have the tools to give the audience a choice they should use it but I'd didn't think of the wider effect on the schedual.

what about moving eurovision to BBC2 and let doctor who on BBC1? who many people actually watch the eurovision? i usually zap ........ a lot :ermm:

Lots of people.

Last year Eurovision got overnight figures of 8.2 million viewers (I can't find the final figures, however they usually go up slightly) - a figure beaten only by Smith and Jones (8.71 million) and Gridlock (8.41 million)

Given the ratings for the other episodes (7.23 for The Shakespeare Code, 6.69 for Daleks in Manhattan, and a reported 6.5 for Evolution of the Daleks and 6.8 million for The Lazarus Experiment), I think Eurovision is a much better choice than Doctor Who....

So, it`s just me who`s looking forward to Terry Wogan and Eurovision then. :bag:

i do try to watch the french singer (and usually zap after 10 seconds so much it's quite bad :fear: )

:ermm:

TV Crazy - May 7, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
I'd enjoy Eurovision more if i knew we had the slightest chance of winning. I actually think this years song could win if politics didn't get in the way. I used to watch all of it.

I'm used to missing tv shows for the odd week after BBC kept interrupting Buffy with snooker. The trailer looked really good for the next episode, i look forward to it whenever they show it.
