I watched this again earlier this year for only the second time and I have to say it's a lot better than I remember. If you exclude that dreadful martial-arts weapon system that was used it's a pretty damn good pilot episode in my honest opinion. :) You get a good introduction to the characters, an interesting story and JMS provides us with plenty of intrigue about this new but very ancient race.
I think it's a shame that this didn't get a chance to become a full series as I'm sure JMS would have tweaked here and there and made it into a cracking little series.
Actually I am quite surprised that the legend of the Rangers is so poorly seen especially by Babylon 5 fans. I can't say I was all that impressed when I 1st saw it but I didn't hate it, except for the "weapon system". To be honest I saw it as a Babylon 5 movie not as a backdoor pilot movie and as a pilot it's pretty impressive. I know it's never going to happen still I would really like JMS to turn this into a series if it was ever possible... Although having said that I would rather he somehow brought back Crusade!
an ok attempt to develop the babylon 5 universe and to show a bit more of the ranger (a difference of approach between minbars and humans, live for the one but let not die stupidly for the one :ermm: ), a good introduction of every character, an interesting story and the "return" of an ancient race they will have to fight
i agree the weapon system was kinda silly
Gkar : i was expecting a little more from him than staying with the diplomats (short mention of lytha), i did like his comment about the place he was going, nothing was what it seemed, i thought he was talking about his naar world but it was about babylon 5 and his comment about someone being stubborn, annoying and so on (typically human) and the one person he had in mind was sheridan (face of the grey council  )
