Title: Buffy Season 8 WARNING SPOILERS!

buffy_fan1 - March 22, 2007 10:59 PM (GMT)
It's finally here Buffy's 8th season in comic book from so I thought it was about time we had a thread to disscuss it.

WARNING THERE WILL BE MAJOR SPOILERS!!!

I've just realised in what there is also a spoiler for Angel season 5 in what I've written and there could be more depending on what happens later in the series. So beware!

Well I guess we're not in Sunnydale anymore I know that might be stating obvious here but I have to admit I was really thrown to see Buffy and scobbies sporting gear that would make the The Initiative proud I wonder where the money came? Buffy having body doubles to keep demons off her back was a great and I guess and inclued Angel and Spike given that Andrew started the rumour about Buffy and The Immortal. It makes sense he already said the scoobies no longer trusted them because they ran Wolfram & Hart.

The thing I was most impressed with was in comic space is limited in a sense still managed to include a lot the elements that made Buffy great, Xander's humour (I have to admit he looked at running thier HQ), action and relationships between the Scoobies. Buffy was hurt that Dawn wouldn't tell her what happened with Kenny or let her try and help Dawn as Buffy said she know what like to problems with men it look at what happen with Angel. She only wants to help sister with her not so little problem poor Dawnie! I wonder why she only trusts Willow?

So the US military think it was Buffy's fault Sunnydale was destroyed typical now they are about to let in a former rat and magic addict lose on them Oh yeah thats great plan  I wonder if this mean we will see Riley again? I great end to part one but I thought after being a rat for so long I thought Amy didn't like cheese?

A very enjoyable first issue, it took me a couple of pages to get used to the high-tech getup too, but then Xander dropped a funny (was it "call me Xander, or sgt Fury") and it all fell into place.

I think the only thing that can cure dawn is a nuke, let's blow her up :ponder:

OK, you don't want Steve to answer it, so I will.

She's an annoying little pain in the posterior who's only reason for existing is to get captured and lure Buffy into elaboratly laid (but easily escapable) traps set by Buffy's myriad enemies. Then she whines constantly about it, as though it wasn't her own damn fault

At the end of season 5, I'd have killed Dawn. End of story. Shove her off the top of the tower, hopefully she would have landed on Spike at the same time, permanently disabling his "chip" and wiping his memory, so he'd be evil again <_<

willowroolz - March 26, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)

What are you guys on about? She's the reason that Buffy died (again) and is therefore the cause of season 6. That alone should have her up on charges of crimes against television.

No I meant in the comic

It was a nobel death Buffy died to save someone she loved as Giles said she put her heart above all else. One most powerful moments of the whole series and then later it's was for Dawn's sake that Buffy had to learn cope with life again.

Or to put it another way I'm right Jamie is wrong

I just want to let you both know...

When the men in white coats come to your doors, don't resist, they're allowed to use "reasonable" force.

You will be held under section 2 of the Mental Health Act (1983) whereby you will be held in a suitable medical unit for up to 28 days observation and treatment. At the end of this period, we will have the right to apply for a judicial review of your case to allow us to extend the period of your stay.

^^ Obviously talking from personal experience

jamiearmour - March 27, 2007 08:58 AM (GMT)
Actually, yes. I've had two people sectioned in my time. Both times it was funnier than watching two ned/chav filled cars colliding and then exploding

Jamie at times you have a very dark sense of humour good for you

One question who is sgt Fury? :stoopid:

prophecy girl - March 27, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
sgt fury aka nick fury gallery (it's the eye patch   )

buffy_fan1 - March 27, 2007 03:50 PM (GMT)
Thanks Claire I understand now having seen the cover for issue 2 Xander does look very like him. I take it Joss is a fan sgt Fury?

prophecy girl - March 27, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
i suppose so (is that xander or spike who compare riley and sam to mr and mrs nick fury? as you were  )

joss did write a story line for a x-men comic link

buffy_fan1 - March 27, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
It was Xander that refered to Riley as Nick Fury :) I know that as well writing comic books he is a fan of comics in general so I wondered wether that was why he included the reference? :ponder:

I think we should put a ban on Joss creating characters under the age of 20 from now on

Dawn in S5 was brilliant being the ultimate alienated teenager. That was probably Joss's last great idea. I would assert it was a good enough idea to power a whole season.

Connor was a bit more suspect though I suppose he allowed them to pursue more standard storytelling ideas given a supernatural twist. sk

i think i kind of prefer grown up dawn (potential) than season five get out get out get out dawn (even if she had a few good scene ......... talking to buffy about riley leaving, ........ )

Ok for a given value of 'grown up' I suppose... but still a brat, and an implausible wannabe brain as well. wish we'd seen more of her far-more-promishing new school friends.

prophecy girl - March 29, 2007 01:28 PM (GMT)
true, it would have been great to have more scene with kit than a phone call in conversation with dead people (where was she in help, him, ... well during any school scene) :ermm:

Yeah, what’s your point, niblet?

Well, I can’t take you in a fight or anything, even with a chip in
your head. But you do sleep. If you hurt my sister at all… touch
her… you’re going to wake up on fire.

LATER ON

SPIKE (to buffy)
When exactly did your sister get unbelievably
scary?

Mmm, a moment when the scrawny one actually tried to put stake to his manly person...that I'd have liked to see- for the next bit when Buffy truly and magnificently damaged her up close and personal, in much the same way that Wood was warned. :whistling:

prophecy girl - April 3, 2007 09:08 AM (GMT)

buffy is back, i would have like to learn more about whatever happened during the missing months ............... but at least there is a clue about italy  (the writer trying to explain why we never saw buffy face during the angel episode)

i suppose willow used one last time her hacker skill to get the council bank account and giles took over the last remaining council hideout ......... xander just added a bit of computer stuff (i was wondering about the guns ........ but they were energy guns to get rid of the energy shield ............ they have witches wannabe but they need modern gun to deal with shield :ermm: ). :ph43r: @ "call me sergeant fury" (guess we know why the slayers are better organized than before)

willow is missing (whatever happened to kennedy), still that give us one great buffy/dawn scene (not mentionning the quote  ), where is faith (i suppose they didn't have enough place to have everyone telling their tales , problems (wanna know about dawn  ), expectation,........... in issue one ......... let see the next issue.

the HQ is in scotland (whatever happened to the hellmouth in cleveland :ponder: ), well at least there is a reason to pospone whatever the army is planned against buffy .............. who is that military guy and what does he know about vampires and magic?

wonder whose shoes were (dracula?)? amy is back (wonder about the other guy?) ........ what is her problem? she was only jealous of willow power, i don't recall her ever complain buffy ........ i hope they will develop that bit.

QUOTE
I thought after being a rat for so long I thought Amy didn't like cheese?
i suppose her first reaction after being turned human again was to eat anything but cheese (the only things she ate for 4 years) but obviously she still like it a lot (we all have a weakness  )

great start

-------------------------

trivia: Great muppety Odin, what's a thricewise? It's a Norse mythology reference. Mimir, a Jotun, was referred to as a thricewise. He guarded the well of wisdom and Odin gave him his right eye for the privilege of drinking from the well. Hmm, which eye did Xander lose? (via whedonesque.com) i was wondering about it :ponder:
