I so wanted to love this episode. I even dragged Dr Noah in to watch it with me. He said it all when he said to me.. "That was pretty sh*t wasn't it?"
I couldn't really find any cause to argue the point with him, it was such a grievous disappointment.
The Asgard are all dead? And it happened in the first ten minutes? How could they reduce something like that to the point of it being a mere plot device? This had to be one of, if not the, biggest cop outs in televisual history <_< The worst thing is though, the episode goes downhill from there :tear:
A shockingly bad finale to a fabulous series. I only hope they write some better material for the tv movies.

I still cried at the end though, just because I knew it was pretty much all over :ph43r:

It wasn't as poignant or self-indulgent as I thought it might have been, given what I'd read beforehand.
Given that we already knew it wouldn't conclude the Ori storyline, and that it would be largely standalone, I have to admit, I actually liked this one. Sorry Jamie!

Was that it?
While it was excellent as a season finale (which I believe is how this was planned), it felt a bit lacking as a series finale. Although the fan in me enjoyed seeing a 'complete' dialling sequence, with Walter shouting out the whole 'Chevron x encoded' lines (and did I see Siler lurking on the Odyssey in one of the early scenes?)
I think the only problem is that thanks to Sci-Fi screwing them over, they didn't have the opportunity to end the series properly. Thankfully we have the made-for-DVD movies coming....

Damnit. Apology not accepted. Agree with me. Agree with me!!!
As a character piece, it worked well, but as a series finale? No, it did not work.
I think my opinion was formed by the sudden, and just as suddenly forgotten, demise of the entire Asgard race. That to me, set the miserable tone of a terrible episode. This had "Filler piece" written all over it
It did, at first anyway, look like it would try and "copy and paste" the plot from B5 finale that wasn't, the fabulous Deconstruction of falling Stars. But then they took it in another direction which bored me near to tears. By the middle of the episode, as we saw the Ori beam edging ever closer, I found myself secretly rooting for the Ori.
And if Sam Carter was so damn smart, why didn't she realise within the first five minutes that she could have repaired the damage to the shields, that would have allowed them to survive the blast and get into hyperspace?
Only a few moments of hilarity saved this from absolute tedium.
Daniel's "Birthday"
Daniel explaining to Vala how they could all tell Thor from the other Asgard..
Fabulous in joke for the fans.
Then Cam going ever so slightly Jack Nicholson a'la The Shining, but never quite getting to the axe weilding stage
A sad end to this great show.
And I ask again... Where the f**k was Jack?

Must admit, I didn't really watch it as a series finale. With the knowledge of the DVD movies it was more in line with it being a season finale. To me at least. I enjoyed it as a character piece, but you're right Jamie, there were certain plot devices which were a little puzzling, surely the demise of the Asgaard would have made for a great plotline in one of the movies, rather than serve as deus ex machina? Weird. Also, has Landy ever before taken charge of the Odyssey? It seemed like he was just wedged in there because it was the finale.

And because RDA obviously had better things to do. He probably looked at the script and passed

It did have some big plot wholes but I have to admit I enjoyed it too :ph43r:
Great scenes between Vala & Daniel :tear:
It could never have been an epic final due to the movies coming up - imagine if we'd never had the Peacekeeper wars - having said that the movies had better be good.
How come Teal'c was the only one who managed to cut his hair as they aged :ponder:

I enjoyed it, but i think the ending could have been much better. I was hoping RDA would have been in it, as i didn't think Landry fitted in at all in this ep, even Hammond would have been better.
I did like the last few minutes, the conversation just before they went through the gate and the joint "Indeed".
I agree the Daniel/Vala scenes were quite fun - "Surprise", "It's not my birthday"; the handcuffs. Didn't like Daniel having a go at Vala, thought that was a bit OTT.
I also thought Sam was smarter than that, i don't think it would have taken her 50 years but after seeing this i'm wondering if McKay really is smarter.
Having said this, it could have been a lot worse. Hope the movies are good.
