Title: Top 50 TV Drama spoll
Mehitabel - March 7, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Only caught the top ten of the list show at the weekend, so can anyone thell me where Buffy featured? I was TRYING to watch it, but the phone kept ringing...
Hardly surprising that The Sopranos made number one, as every commerical break seemed to feature a trailer for the new series. And the fact that they said 'voted for by TV professionals' suggested that the Sopranos promotion team might have been the pros in question- philistines!
[Sorry- really wished I'd spelled the title of this right- don't know how to change it]

Hmm
All I can say is that's what you get when you let industry professionals do insider voting, and not let normal people like us have a say.
And- thanks Claire - interesting reading.

Surely Buffy is somewhat sui generis being a supernatural drama fused with soap opera elements. sk

What I don't get is... How come Brideshead Revisited" made it into a drama poll?
I only ever watched that show when I ran out of sleeping tablets, did anything ever happen in that show? If I were to find that Buffy was kept off the list by it, I'd be cranky :ph43r:

maybe the poll has also something to do with the audience and we know how much the BBC mess up with buffy schedule <_<

Out of that list, there are two shows I used to watch 20 years or more ago.....and a grand total of one I watched since then.......

Oh, but I love Brideshead- have it on tape and was rewatching only recently.
Guess you either like it or you don't....

i only know Das Boot, Hill Street Blues and the prisoner (in the over 15/20 years old series ) :ponder:

I loved Twin Peaks esp S1. Das Boot has to count as one of televisons greatest achievements full stop. I remember watching Hill Street Blues a little but I was probably slightly too young to fully appreciate it. The absurdly militaristic republican sub-commander was inspired. Auf Weidersehen Pet was very special at the time and said something profound about a country unable to employ its working classes. I watched some of The West Wing but its 'patriotic' view of American politics I found a little sickening compared to British output like Yes Prime Minister or The New Statesman.
Threads always seemed ridiculous too me as we all know about Hiroshima. Did people really think nuclear weapons were now any different? Being set in Sheffield was fairly striking though. I must admit as Gerry Sadowitz also hinted a lot of Sheffield would be improved by a nuclear blast. I do not recommend Labour councils.
Band Of Brother showed what Saving Private Ryan should have been like ie minus the soapy sentiments. Scum remains a remarkable (tart?) testament to the brutality and savagery of Borstals. I recall watching Roots but I was a little too young to appreciate its revisionism.
Last one. Just spotted Traffik. Far superior to the American film which had nothing of the clarity and relentless twisted logic so evident in all three main story elements of the British series. sk
