Title: People with Sky/Sky+
Outta Sight - February 27, 2007 10:24 AM (GMT)
Is anyone else experiencing interference with their reception/recordings?
Mine is terrible at the moment. I barely make it through one programme without it breaking up, becoming fragmented, sound disappearing etc. :( It's made it impossible to watch some programmes. However, there are some that are absolutely fine so I don't know if it's a general Sky problem or whether it's my Sky box or the dish or what
willowroolz - February 27, 2007 10:36 AM (GMT)
I've had that problem on and off for ages. The main Sky channels are fine but others tend to experience picture break up quite often. More4 and NASN tend to suffer the worst. Seems to be weather related. If it's windy and/or raining I can almost guarantee it'll happen to one degree or another. It could also be that the wind has battered my dish slightly out of alignment over time. I keep meaning to get them to come out and check

Mine's fine, despite the risk that I might sound condescending have you tried switching it off and then on again after about 5 mins?
The last time mine was on the blink that was the solution to it

 That seems to be the answer to every electrical problem.
I'll give it a try though :)
It seems to be very random. For instance, on Sunday night the recording of 24 was unwatchable, I tried for about 15 minutes but, in the end, had to find the repeat to record. Yet, Lost, right after it, recorded almost perfectly
I think I'm going to have to get someone out to look at it. Like your's, Steve, it definitely plays up in bad weather but even in perfect conditions the recordings can still be unwatchable :tear:

I've not had any problems with Sky One, so yours is obviously a lot worse. I tried unplugging it for a few minutes etc, it didn't make any difference.
I've lost count of the number of goals I've missed in the ice hockey because of it <_<

I think I've had problems on pretty much all of the channels I watch so I guess it's either my dish or box <_<
It's only recent so I'm wondering if those high winds the other week knocked the dish askew :ponder:

Cable viewers had problems with 24 the other night (see the NTL:Telewest to lose SKY ONE thread).......
I get SKY ONE through cable and we have had occasional picture break up and sound problems recently too......some shows worse than others.....also the problem seems to be worse early evening than later..... :ponder:
I guess that would rule out a 'Dish' problem if its effecting cable viewers as well.....sounds like a duff transmission feed....... :ermm:

It's possible. Or maybe Richard Branson's fired a few missiles at their satellites, just to, you know, see what happens :ph43r:

Perhaps his 'Space plane' accidentally bumped into it while on a test flight..... :ponder:

Now that you mention it, all the shows badly hit are are around 8-9pm. The 10pm and later ones tend to be alright :ponder:
little pixie - February 27, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
Hmm, have had problems recently, too. :ponder:
Previous problems have been solved by poking the dish with a big stick until the dish moves slightly - it`s a 2-person job `cos someone has to stay inside and watch the alignment percentages, etc. :)
Seems odd that lots of people are having the same problem at the same time - shall post next time the pic gets really frgamented and see if anyone else had trouble at the same time. :)

I've not had any problems like that at all. Pretty much the only problem I've had recently has been with the colour balance, but that's more likely due to an incredibly old telly rather than Sky.
Oh, there was a period of about 2 hours last night when all I could receive was Sky Sports Xtra, which was slightly strange, but I've not had any problems with picture breaking up, duff Sky+ recordings etc.
ETA: I just remembered, Ria's godmother's Sky system has this problem but she doesn't have Sky+ so it's only the picture which is affected.
Outta Sight - February 27, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
I'm recording season 5 of Angel daily on Sci-Fi at 8pm and usually every episode is corrupted :ponder:
little pixie - February 28, 2007 10:35 AM (GMT)
The picture was breaking up during Family Guy last night... :)
That would have been around 11pm.
Outta Sight - February 28, 2007 11:24 AM (GMT)
I recorded quite a lot last night on a variety of channels so it'll be interesting (to me anyway  ) to see which ones are OK and which are not :ponder:

Thanks Steve - I`m assuming it was `cos of the wind, then. :)
Fangy and grrr - February 28, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
Digital Spy has a dedicated Sky+ forum which is usually a good source of info on any problems your having.
Apart from the occasional loss of signal due to the weather the only problem I've had with mine is failed recordings when its telling me there isn't enough hard disc space to record something when there clearly is enough space, I had to do something called a system re-planner oslt  can't remember what is was called exactly but I read about it on the Digital Spy forum and it solved the problem .. till the next time but it did work. :)
Persephone - February 28, 2007 04:47 PM (GMT)
The only problems I'm having is that I can't pick up either E4 or More 4 on the Sky + box. They pick up on the other box but the pictures not very good. It's no real loss, I don't really watch either channel particularly, it's just annoying that I can't if I wanted to
Hovis - February 28, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
Yep. I've had problems too... I've been onto Sky and have done reboots and resets galore, but nothing seems to be working. When I'm watching something and then record it seems fine, but when I record using the timer, the results are usually unwatchable. For me, it isn't time or weather related and all channels are badly affected.

It was right up the spout last night between about 11 and 12:30. NASN was unwatchable, as were some of the lesser channels. Sky 1, 2, 3, Sports, Movies etc were all fine, though
Outta Sight - March 1, 2007 09:47 AM (GMT)
Oh well, at least I know it's not just me  Everything I watched last night was absolutely fine  Even the Angel episode which is usually always knackered
Outta Sight - March 5, 2007 10:04 AM (GMT)
Now I'm seriously pissed off  Not content with screwing up the quality of the programmes, sometime during Friday night/Saturday morning half a dozen programmes just dropped out of the planner  And because some were from earlier in the week, the repeat had already been shown :( So I've missed The Wire (which I'm most annoyed about), Numb3rs, Friday Night Lights, last week's Primeval and a couple of others that I forget now.
I hope that doesn't become a regular habit <_<
Hovis - March 8, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
I had the engineer round on Tuesday. After scratching his head and looking bemused, he changed the box. All seemed ok, but he went off without properly tieing up the new box with my viewing card, so I had no access to Sports or Movies, and no access to anything I recorded.
Well done to the customer services guys last night. I'm all sorted now, and back to normal. (My Sky+ system that is, not me!)
