Beware of spoilers for Season Three of Stargate Atlantis in the report below.

Torri Higginson ("Elizabeth Weir") will no longer be a main cast member in the fourth season of Stargate Atlantis, executive producer Brad Wright revealed in a new video interview now online at StargateSG1.com, MGM's official site for the series.

"Torri Higginson is coming back for some period of time," Wright said. "She's going to be a recurring character."

The news follows on recent reports that cast member Paul McGillion ("Carson Beckett") will be departing the series late in the current season (story).

Just how many episodes "recurring" means is also unknown. After the first season of Atlantis, co-star Rainbow Sun Francks ("Aiden Ford") was reduced to recurring status apparently as a means of removing him from the show. He appeared in four episodes the next season, and his character has not been heard from since.

On the other hand, Weir could remain in charge of Atlantis despite the status change, but simply not appear in as many episodes. In the history of Stargate, such actors as McGillion (in the show's first season), David Nykl ("Radek Zelenka"), and SG-1's Teryl Rothery ("Janet Fraiser") have appeared in more than half of a season with "recurring" status.

So that's;

Paul McGillion - Out
Jewel Stait - In
Torri Higginson - Recurring (Out)
Amanda Tapping - Recurring (In)

Fookin' hell this is getting confusing!

I must admit, it won't really bother me if TH is not in Atlantis much

I was completely gutted about PM leaving (that episode had in me tears  ) but I'm excited by the addition of JS and AT to the cast

Looks like it's pretty much 'all change' for the Atlantis crew ;)

From what I've heard, it'll be all change for Atlantis period next season :)

Yeah, I've heard that as well.

I'm not sure if that's for the better, or worse tbh.

I've avoided finding out too much (apart from the 3x20 report on Gateworld), but I'm not convinced either.

Just as Atlantis is really finding its feet, they have to mess around with it. quite tragic in a way :(

We've seen some really great Atlantis episodes this season. The cast worked really well together, i don't think it will work as well without PM or TH, they may play smaller roles, but they're integral to the team in my opinion.

I'm looking forward to seeing JS on Atlantis, she was really good on Firefly. Although i'm not sure bringing AT in for most of the season is the best idea, they're gonna ruin the Carter/McKay banter which was great fun every once in a while, but not all the time.

Hopefully the storylines will be just as good as this season.

Well, she was in the S3 finale(if only briefly). But I'm glad she's sticking around as a permanent character

It was quite telling about Higginson's departure on the Space (Canadian sci-fi channel) Awards show last night - they filmed some of it on the Atlantis set, and while they had every other cast member (even down to having Amanda Tapping), there was no Higginson.

Which would be alright, except just before it they showed the latest episode (for them) - the Season 2 finale. Spoilers, anyone? :)
