The team tries to relax during a mandatory day off, until an explosion leaves three people dead -- and reveals that one scientist is a walking time bomb.

Have to admit, I'm a sucker for the old slow-paced character pieces, so this one was on to a winner with me from the start. One of the best written episodes for some time IMO.

Even though there was a central theme around a deadly explosion running the length of the episode there was still a light and carefree tone to this one that belied the stinging last 5 minutes. Must admit, it caught me slightly off guard. While I'd heard about Beckett being written out of the show I'd completely forgotten which episode it was where it was going to happen.

As character swansongs go, this one's up there with the best of them IMO, and underlined once again how much the character will be missed. I read beforehand that they were leaving Beckett's departure ambiguous to allow for the possibility of him returning, yet this seemed fairly conclusive to me.

The best episode of the season for me, and arguably one of the best from the entire series.

Like you, I knew that Beckett was leaving, but I had read the same thing about them leaving it open for him to return.

I had no clue that this was the episode that he left in so it came as a complete suprise. I had been wondering why this episode was slated as 3x14 but was missed out and shown after 3x17, now I know

I'm not sure if I can ever watch this episode again as I had been enjoying it so much and then the unthinkable happened :tear:

I've heard a few people suppose Beckett might have ascended (given this is the Stargate universe, and they're based on an Ancient base who knows what could have happened).

What I find very odd is that this goes completely against what an executive producer claimed, which was Dr. Beckett won't be killed off, but instead will disappear in the second half of the current season. Either something significant changed like, say McGillion specifically saying he's not coming back (can't say I blame him since he's being shoved off to make way for another Firefly refugee), or they were outright lying.

Despite all this, I really enjoyed the episode and I'll miss Beckett - he certainly the best character on Atlantis. Now they'd better not get rid of Zelenka, otherwise I'll get really mad :)

One of the best episodes ever, just a shame to lose one of the main cast, i was quite upset at the end - poor Rodney. Atlantis wont be the same without Beckett  .

I really enjoyed seeing what they do when they weren't battling the wraith, Genii or replicators, it was good to see what they do on their day off.

I heard he was going to die in this ep, so i'd been paying extra attention to his character recently and realised what an amazing character he was.

I don't think Atlantis S4 will be as good, they had a great team dynamic with the six of them, and that's all gonna change now.

This ep gets a 10/10 from me. Lets hope he's ascended and we'll see him again one day.
