Title: New Comedies - 2007
Description: KNIGHTS and EMERGENCY

TV Yank - January 8, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
I tuned into the premieres of a couple mid-season comedies a couple nights ago. They appear back-to-back. The first has been heavily promoted and looked mildly interesting but the second one had Kelly Hu in it (plus the promise of an appearance by Jane Seymour in her underwear -- a la 'Mrs Robinson').

KNIGHTS OF PROSPERITY has one joke: a small group of working-class blokes (New York style), decide to rob Mick Jagger who audaciously appears on tv showing off his gaudy NYC apartment. It's a difficult joke to sustain over 1 half-hour episode. I don't know how they're gonna manage for a 1/2 season.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY is the one with the beauteous Kelly Hu. Most of the time that I've seen her, Kelly has been a beautiful but blank actress -- except for an excellent turn as a villainness in BOOMTOWN a couple years back. But, here she's showing more interesting dimension. Perhaps it helps that she has 3 terrific comedy actors aiding and abbetting: Jonathan Silverman, David Arquette and Greg Germann. They're 4 former high school classmates who meet some years later when their lives have turned pathetic. The writing tried for something clever and seemed to fall flat, but the actors (particularly the male actors) gave it enuf punch for me to enjoy it more than for Kelly Hu's bod. Lori Laughlin is in the cast as a doctor they happen to meet.
