Footballers' Wives is to be adapted for the United States after the ABC network commissioned a pilot episode from the creators of the axed ITV1 drama. A "fantastic" script had been written, retaining "all the wit and the pace of the original show", according to executive producer Brian Park. "We can't wait to see Tanya, Jason et al as red-blooded Americans," he added. The man behind Superman Returns, Bryan Singer, may be recruited to direct the programme, Variety magazine suggested. The show ran for five series in the UK but was dropped this year when ratings fell. It focused on the players of a fictional football club - Earls Park - and their glamorous partners, played by actresses including Zoe Lucker and ex-EastEnder Gillian Taylforth. It has already been seen in its original format in the US on BBC America. Enthusastic critics compared the third series, which began in February, with established hits such as Dallas and Desperate Housewives. Story from BBC NEWS: |
