Taken From Trek Today

Pocket Books editors and writers at the Shore Leave convention in Hunt Valley, Maryland announced news about several new Star Trek book projects over the weekend.

Psi Phi announced the titles for 2005-2006 release, which include an Enterprise novel about Hoshi Sato to be written by Dave Stern and the first Titan novel, set after Star Trek: Nemesis and focusing on Captain William Riker's command, tentatively titled Taking Wing, to be written by Andy Mangels & Michael A. Martin. Psi Phi has more information on the latter here.

A Deep Space Nine miniseries set during the Occupation, Terok Nor, was announced, though no authors or publication dates have been revealed yet. Worlds of Deep Space Nine writer Una McCormack will also write another DS9 novel, Hollow Men.

There will be a new Voyager trilogy String Theory, to be penned by Jeffrey Lang, Kirsten Beyer and Heather Jarman, and a Voyager anthology, whose title and editor have not yet been announced.

Two new Lost Era books - one likely focusing on Picard, the other on Sisko - are on the schedule, as are two Next Generation books, one by Michael Jan Friedman, the other by J.M. Dillard, set in the post-Nemesis era when many changes have been made in the crew. Gene DeWeese will also write a TNG book, Engines of Destiny.

A new series about the space station Vanguard, set during the original series, will be launched by David Mack, and editor Marco Palmieri will oversee Other Times, a series of speculative stories.

Marco Palmieri did a sterling job with the DS9 relaunch so I'll probably check the Vanguard novel(s) out.

The DS9 ones too probably.

You forgot to mention the one that I'm looking forward to the most, the new Peter David New frontier book coming out in November  Already preordered on Amazon by little old me, an early (can't say the word before November) present for my beloved.

I've never managed to get into the NF novels :(

I remember getting the first one free with the Star Trek magazine but I've just never found the time to actually read it, which is a shame as Peter David is an amazingly talented writer, and I hear nothing but positives about the series. I suppose at least when I do actually get around to reading them I'll have plenty to get through :)

Oh angel, you have no idea what you're missing out on. The New frontier books are IMO the truest incarnation of Trek out there at the moment. Well written characters in fascinating situations. And because it's Peter David, there are plenty of "trek culture" references in there, including a new (ish) crewmember who was in kirks crew when he captained the Excelsior (In the 1980s DC comics, oddly enough written by Peter David).

Peter is still joyous in his exploration of his own little corner of the Trek universe and I love him for it. Go read that book right now and then read the rest, trust me it will be worth it:)

I know, I feel really guilty about the NF novels. I've heard time and time again how good they are, and given they're works of Peter David I have no obvious reason to believe otherwise. It's just my reading list is pretty extensive at this point and way, way in a backlogue :(

Finding the novel would be a start in itself, I'll have a dig around tomorrow, see what I can find :)

I use the market place over there quite often, there's some great bargains to be had. One of the Blade Runner novels I picked up a few weeks ago I got for 1p, it's as good as new :)
